As is often the case, both with 'Blue Heelers' and shows of a similar ilk, after a few slightly lackluster installments, things bounce back with a top-notch episode. And this is one such episode!
'With Prejudice' is a top-notch episode, with what must surely be one of the largest guest casts in BH history, and a terrific story that leaves you wondering throughout.
Back in 'Stop for a Bite', I wondered about the odd inclusion of Clancy, a local man who suffers some kind of (unspecified) learning or mental difficulty. Well, here is the payoff, as Clancy becomes one of the prime suspects in the case of the missing girl.
The episode also sees the return of pushy reporter Harriet Kepple, an "acquaintance" of PJ's first seen in 'The Old School Tie'. Beverley Evans plays the part perfectly, balancing the role between sultry and arrogant.
Like Tom, I refused to believe that the confused but gentle Clancy would be involved in the girl's vanishing. Like most of the characters, I suspected the religious fanatic father for much of the story, so it comes as a twist when the mother's estranged parents are the one behind the disappearance.
I found the plot to be superb, with a number of possible suspects offered up, and it kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. It also hits the perfect BH formula of a dramatic story but just the right amount of light-hearted moments to break things up (something which had seemed slightly off-kilter in a few previous episodes this season, in my view).
'With Prejudice' is the most I have enjoyed a 'Blue Heelers' episode for some time (well, it *seems* like some time I generally watch one episode per night on DVD!); I really enjoyed this one. I give it a top scoring 10 out of 10.moreless
