AIRED:
Northumbria Police Dog technology The Northumbria Police force demonstrated the latest police dog technology with their playful pooch, Butch. The fidocam is a mini camera, which police dogs wear on their heads when they are searching buildings for police suspects. Using the camera, the police officers can see the image beamed back to a little monitor and instruct the dog on it's movements using a little speaker on the camera. We also met Alfie, a 14 week old puppy training to become a police dog. It takes 12 weeks of initial training to become a general police dog and then the best of those go on to become camera dogs. There is currently a national shortage of puppies donated by the public so if you are looking to give a puppy (no older than two years of age) a new home contact your local police force to see whether it may be suitable for them. There is a rigorous training course to be completed and those puppies who aren't suitable for a police dog's life will need to be re-homed with their original owners. But if yours is a young dog with plenty of drive and very playful, then the police may consider taking it on as a member of the force! These puppies then go on to live with their police dog handler and become part of their family. Scarecrows Children from Wray Village Scarecrow Festival were in the Blue Peter garden giving a preview of this year's collection which include some familiar faces! Liz and Zöe go head-to-head at making their own Scarecrow which will be displayed all next week at the festival Elvis Impersonators On 17th April, a group of Elvis Impersonators gathered to set a new world record, to celebrate this anniversary. Elvis Presley, who has sold more singles than any other musician worldwide, was famous for performing there. To find out more about Las Vegas, watch tomorrow's programme at 6pm on the CBBC channel, or on Wednesday at 5pm on CBBC One. Gold Badge winner James 12 year-old James from Liverpool was awarded a Gold Badge on today's show. He lives with an incurable skin disease called Epidermolysis Bullosa (E.B.). This genetic condition means that James is in constant pain. He is among 600 sufferers in the North West, but only a handful have as severe symptoms as James.moreless
