Not really, maybe a bit shocking but they had to get rid of Owen if the writers intent is to keep Margaret near Nucky.

Quite surprising, but in a good way. His and Margaret's story wasn't really going anywhere, and there's no way the writers would actually let them run off together.

I don't think he'll be the only casualty this season, As much as I love him it's almost a guarantee that Gyp is going to die this season which is a shame, there might be another death on Nuckys side too, but I think Nucky and Joe will come to a truce in the end.

Not tasteless at all. Let's not forget Owen is a murderer and was bangin' Nuckys' wife. He got sloppy and got jacked up in NY, he doesn't deserve to live and protect Nucky. Nucky needs reliable and skilled protection right now. They should have killed off Nucky's wife and kept Owen though, that bitch is annoying.
