Three Faces
AIRED:
"It's time to design our T-shirt for the annual Corporate Run (for leukemia research), but this year, to avoid office squabbling, we're going to design the T-shirt in secret." Dr. Michael Kelly and his two assistants start the morning huddled in his office, brainstorming a design that they hope will win first prize for Miami Plastic Surgery. Meanwhile, the practice's waiting room is filling up with new patients. Dr. Carlos Wolf greets Lorilee who sees him regularly for Botox treatments. This morning, Lorilee brings in her daughter, 16-year-old Keshet who wants her nose fixed. "Kids who see their parents get cosmetic surgery are more open to the idea of plastic surgery for themselves." Keshet is a dark, lanky beauty — who Dr. Wolf would like to introduce to his teenage son. She's a soft-spoken girl, but she knows what she wants: a straightened nose with a rounded tip, not pointy like her mom's nose job — and she wants the surgery done in time for her summer trip to Switzerland. Next up is Alejandro, a dashing, athletic 74-year-old who wants Dr. Wolf to give him a facelift so he can look as young as he feels. "He's my hero," gushes Dr. Wolf, "I want to be just like him when I'm his age." Alejandro pulls himself away from flirting with the nurses to tell Dr. Wolf that he's been dating a lot since his wife died and wants to look his best on the dance floor. Dr. Wolf knows that he can help, but he's concerned with the medical risks of operating on an elderly man and suggests a modified facelift, which will reduce Alejandro's surgery and recovery time. Dr. Brad Herman's first patient of the day is Lauren, a bubbly, out-going 20-year-old college student who wants a breast reduction. "I know the first thing guys notice are my breasts; and I want to say, 'Hi, meet me. I'm up here.'" Dr. Herman examines Lauren's enormous, breasts and suggests reducing them to a B or C cup. "Breast tissue in young patients is dense, and it's a challenge to get the shape you want," Dr. Herman explains. "But in Lauren's case, reducing her breasts will help her personality come out, and she won’t just be known as the girl with big breasts." Then Mercedes arrives to see Dr. Wolf about a facelift. She just turned 50 and says, "I'm not going to age gracefully. I'm going to go out kicking and screaming." She's an elegant, vivacious woman who thinks her face is starting to sag and no longer matches her zest for life. She's a paralegal and her firm just hired an office manager who's younger than her daughter. Enough is enough. It's time to fight back. The surgeries go well: Mercedes' high blood pressure initially threatens to cancel her surgery, but Dr. Wolf's team succeeds in stabilizing her condition. The patients recover beautifully and all are thrilled with the results. Dr. Kelly and his staff finally reveal the T-shirts, a comic plug for the joys of breast implants, and Miami Plastic Surgery goes on to win first place in the T-shirt design contest at the Corporate Run.moreless
