This series was based on a radio show starring Humphrey Bogart as Slate Shannon and Lauren Bacall as his ward Sailor Duvall. The radio characters seemed to be somewhat based on Bogart and Bacall's characters in Howard Hawks' version of Hemingway's "To Have and Have Not".

Dane Clark was terrific as Slate Shannon and Joan Marshall made a lovely Sailor Duvall.

The stark opening sequence with the playing of drums by a native was striking.

The show was syndicated. In New York City it played on Saturday nights at 7:00.

The producers were Morton Fine and David Friedkin, who would go on to do "I Spy".

The Bold Venture was the name of Shannon's boat.moreless
