In this first sequel to the series, Aaron Cartwright, Ben's brother, now runs the Ponderosa. He approves mining on their property, over the objections of ranch foreman Charlie Poke. A young man named Josh arrives, claiming he's the illegitimate son of the late Hoss. Josh discovers that the mining company is destroying the land with their methods, brings it to Aaron's attention who puts a stop to their efforts.moreless

- The only original cast member signed for this syndicated TV film was Lorne Greene, but he passed away before production began. Lorne's daughter Gillian Greene played a small role. Others cast members who had guested on the original were Dabbs Greer, Peter-Mark Richman and Kevin Hagen.
