Ben keeps a bedside vigil as his son Adam suffers through a high fever. He hearkens back to earlier times with his first wife, and Adam's mother, Elizabeth. These were the days when Ben was a sailor serving under Elizabeth's father, Captain Abel Morgan Stoddard.moreless
  • A good rendition of the flashback. Adam lays very sick, and Ben flashes back to when he retires from the sea, marries the Captain\'s daughter who dies after Adam is born, then leaves for the west to follow his dream.moreless

A great episode! Young Ben is very believable as his hair is died black (Adam\'s hair color), he looks youthful, and does a credible job in the fight scene.

The music box Ben gives Adam\'s mother comes around nicely in the final scene as a memento on Adam\'s nightstand.

I would rate this a \"keeper\" episode, as it answers many questions about Ben\'s first wife, Adam\'s birth, what takes Ben out west, and what he did before being the land baron he eventually becomes.
