      • German episode title: "Das Sklavenlager", meaning "Camp Of Slaves".

      • David Canary's sudden "return" to the Ponderosa is billed in the opening credits as one of the "Special Guest Stars." Canary had left Bonanza in 1970 due to a salary dispute, a year before this episode – filmed in June 1968 – aired.

      • Violence was very much in the air when this episode was filmed. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had been murdered just a month earlier and Robert Kennedy was gunned down on 6/5/1968. The cast was on location at Gooseneck Meadow in Truckee, ready to begin filming on 6/6/1968 when news of the latest assassination reached them. NBC was very concerned about some of the explicit violence in the script, so some was toned down during filming. The network felt it was an inappropriate time for such a graphic story to air, so this episode was postponed until 1971. At this time, opening and closing credits for this season were spliced in, a shooting cut out, and new music recorded.
