  • Classic portrayal of Native Americans

    1.2
Costuming and language struggle with genuine representations of the Shoshone people.

This episode, supposedly ca 1875, suffers from historical accuracy. The stereotypes of Native Americans are deep and based on ignorance.

Even though the writers have done a good job of showing respect of the Shoshone by the Cartwrights, the writers of the show cast actors who are obviously italian and spanish in genetics. Maybe during this period of Hollywood, there were few true Native American actors... who knows.

My problem is the obvious classical acting of "Keokuk" who sounds as if he came directly from a radio broadcast of "Lights Out... Only the Shadow Knows" in stead of off the reservation.

However, the greatest value is the lack of being overtly politically correct as was done in "Dances With Wolves" and movies of the same genre.moreless
