A rare comic episode of the series which usually the series is always on the drama side. this episode is quite different. avery funny episoide. As the episode opens Joe came home after losing poker and must get a pane after he broke one. Hoss must get in shape for a pancake eating contest. By the end of the episode, Joe has broken seven panes and nothing to show. And Hoss is eating panckes like there's no tommrow. I aleways see Michael landon as a serious actor. But he made a rare comic performance. I love this episode. Probaby by next episode, they're will be doing a dramatic episode again. Things will be back to normal again.
This show holds a very special meaning to me. Not for it's story or acting. This series was my dads favorite on T.V. He died the next day after this episodes airing 1/4/65. I was 12 and he and I watched it every week.
Good old family values show! Not always a true oater with shoot em ups and phoney accents they were more than western cowboys or settlers! they were a first generation settled family establishing the west. They experienced some of the same issues we face today only their solutions were less politically correct and more personalized. There was humor in some of these episodes as well as a lesson blended in with entertainment. It also featured some of the most beautiful country in the world. It encouraged people to go west. It also showcased a simpler time when we did not need shock and awe to be entertained. A show like Bonanza today would not last because there was no controversy, no social statement no graphic language, or nudity.
