  • Love those Cartwright Brothers

It was such a delight to finally see the episodes that aired when I was a toddler! To watch these again takes me back to a time when my beloved late family members enjoyed this show together. I absolutely Love the "Adam Years", & I see why Pernell is loved & missed. Why they are all missed.

I really love the comedic ones, the family comraderie, normal like any other no matter what period of American History.

I've grown up with Bonanza, I watched it with my grandma, & now I can enjoy it on DVD. I Love The Cartwrights!moreless

When Hoss and Adam decide to enter a race with their new horse, they never realized how much trouble it would get them into. After Hoss loses a poker game where he used the horse a security, they need money and they know exactly where to get it. Joe decides to help them, but has a trick or two up this sleeve. I absolutely love the acting and comedy in the episode. The boys really have some funny moments and it's a classic of this series. I loved the sibling rivaly and trickery that goes on. I recommend this episode to any western (and non-western) lover.moreless

    • Hoss: Hey Joe, look, won't you do me and Adam a really big favor and loan us that money?
      Joe: Security.
Adam: You'll own a third of the horse.
      Joe: Security.
      Hoss: Joe, you can't lose!
      Joe: Security.

    • Lafe: Oh, well Hoss had a little bad luck too. He lost one-hundred and sixty dollars.
Adam: Why don't you sue him for it?
Lafe: Oh, I wouldn't sue him for it, I'd just sell the horse.
      Adam: You'll what?
Hoss: Adam, look, after I borrowed that first hundred, Lafe here made me up the horse for security on the rest of it.
      Adam: Security?
      Lafe: Yeah....security.
      Hoss: Yeah, security.

    • Joe: Alright, what's it all about? You two certainly didn't come over here just to visit.
Hoss: Why else would we, little brother?
Joe: Well, because it's a long ride from the Ponderosa and we grew up together, remember?
Adam: You know, I think our little brother is losing a little respect for his elders since he began making all that money.
Hoss: You're right, Adam, he's getting plum smart-alecky.
Joe: Oh boy, talk like that sounds like you're about one foot away from cattle-rustling.

    • Adam: (to Hoss) You know, if you weren't so big I'd poke you one right in the mouth.

    • Adam: (to Hoss) Next time you feel lucky, let me know so I can lock you up somewhere.

    • Adam: Well you see every family has its quirks, and under the circumstances, going to our Pa is one of them.

    • Enos: (to Joe) I'm beginning to think the only way to get ahead of you is to walk behind you.

    • Joe: My Pa did not put me up to this. I put me up to this.
