      • This is the first of Bing Russell's 54 appearances on the series. In most of those he appeared as Deputy Clem Foster, but that wouldn't happen until the fourth season. Edit
      • German episode title: "Häuptling Cochise und die Cartwrights", meaning "Chief Cochise And The Cartwrights". Edit
      • Joe was originally slated to be the one who gets shot and Adam was to carry him to safety. There are two different stories as to why this was changed: 1/ Pernell Roberts couldn't do this due to a bad back, so Roberts' stand-in, Betty Endicott, would do it instead. Roberts' was not pleased at the thought of this. Over lunch, Landon and Roberts determined that Joe could carry Adam instead. 2/ NBC did not want its stars injured doing any stunts and Landon was the only approved "stuntman" on the cast. In any event, the script was re-written to have Adam as the shooting victim. Edit
