Episode Recap

Luther Bishop and Ben Cartwright have had an ongoing land dispute over a small tract called the Truckee Strip. The episode opens with a group of men cutting down a tree on the strip, lead by an employee of Bishop who, along with a silver baron, want the timber on the strip. Bishop's man assures him that the Cartwrights will start up the fued again, after they cut down the tree. Then he can talk Bishop into selling the timber. A Cartwright employee who sees this reports it and the feud begins again.
Meanwhile, Joe meets Amy Bishop, daughter of Luther, as she wades in the creek on the strip. Amy is as cute as a button and Joe is immediately smitten. Amy clearly thinks the same of him, so the two plan to meet again and continue to do so, in secret.
The first plan of Bishop's conniving foreman doesn't work, as Luther still refuses to sell to the silver baron, so the foreman comes up with a new plan. He and some other men steal horses from the Ponderosa and ride to Bishop's and kill one of his hands and beat up another. The survivor tells Bishop that Ponderosa men did the deed. Bishop is furious and now agrees to sell the timber. When Ben, Hoss, Adam and one of their men go to the logging camp to stop them, the Ponderosa man, who lost an eye in prior fighting over the Truckee Strip, kills the son of Bishop's Chinese cook. Joe finds out about this and takes the boy's body back to his father at Bishop's.
Joe and Amy finally tell her father they have been seeing each other, while Joe is there to deliver the body. That doesn't go over well with Bishop. Joe then goes home and tells Ben about being in love with Amy. Pa is, as usual, supportive and says they will just have to talk Bishop into it. They go to the logging camp the next day and Bishop listens to what Ben has to say and tells Joe to go and get Amy to join in the discussion.
Meanwhile, Bishop's bad-guy foreman goes after Amy to force his attentions on her. She flees to the barn where Joe comes to the rescue. A fight ensues and Joe eventually wins by impaling the bad-guy with a crow bar. Unfortunately, in the course of the fight, the villain throws a pitchfork at Joe, misses him, and hits Amy in the chest. Joe is unaware of this until the fight is over. Later, Amy dies with Joe at her side, just after he has told her that their parents have agreed for them to marry and are going to give them the Truckee Strip to build their house on. Both the family feud and Joe's romance are ended.
