If I'm from Canada, and watch Bones on an American station, sodo I still count as a "non-american". Technically I'm American if you're talking about North America, but since you're not, I'm only Canadian.

OMG, I'm so proud of this thread! So many people showing up! So, carioca, you work in a lab, uh? cool! too bad they don't let you use blue lab coats! Like manu, I only wear them to school sometimes, but it has to be white! Welcome, T! So, you're Canadian? cool! Hi, Elaine, welcome too! That thing about the timeslots sucks, but at least you can already watch season 3! Hi, Elena! (wow, elaine, elena, kinda similar, uh? xD) I'm really sorry about the timslots, you're absolutely right, networks DO suck everywhere! And Angel, I don't really know German, but I think one of the words they dubbed was Religion, right? what the hell does that have to do with the real scene? x) Just so you know, here in portugal, they mess up on the subtitles a lot too! For example squints translates to "esgravulhas" but that means someone who diggs a lot or someone who is very curious (okay, this one is kinda right...)! They could translate it to something like...oh, I don't know, but something more apropriate! And you should see the mistakes the do with the scientific "mumbo-jumbo"! It's awful!

Yes, in the german translation Angela told Booth "this is not a good time to talk about religion". Hello, that totally took away from the scene, especially considering Booth's facial expression. I would think if they do translate either in subtitles or in spoken words, that they at least know what they are saying and try to stay close to it. I understand they have to match the lip movement of the actors, but still... Ah, it is so annoying, especially if you know what they were originally saying. Well, that is the reason i always watch my DVD with the english track

angel, where do you live in germany?

didn't realized that false dubbing. Watched the scene in english before but well, it was quite some time before i watched the german ep. there are a lot scenes i'm able to speak the english text when they say it in german but not this one

Don't wanna know what they'll do when it comes to Bones going onto Sullys boat. She's saying in english "no bones, no bones. I'm the second bones" or something like that. How will they translate that?! "Keine Knochen, no bones. Ich war das zweite bones" It wouldn't make any sense to the audience who hadn't watched it in english yet.

And you're totally right. they shouldn't dub it. Just subtitle it. I learned a lot english via watching english shows and there wouldn't be that much people who aren't able to talk english in any way. I'm at a gymnasium (something like highschool i think) and even there are a lot of people who aren't able to speak or write english properly. I wasn't good, too, a few month ago. But well, they make HUGE mistakes!

I like tv.com for being so full of people from all over the world. I mean, even if it's an american community you can find a lot of european peole and even some from the eastern continents. It's great to know so many people who love the same things you love!

Hey Ziva, I'm living in NRW. What about you?

Gosh, I already shudder to think how they will translate "no bones, no Bones". If I mute my remote I can speak for B/B, yeah, I am so obsessed that I've seen all episodes countless times over . I would think that learning english is much more fun if you (in addition to what is taught in school ) watch tv shows in english. Lots of the popular tv shows are American. But then again, people are lazy and don't want to concentrate too much. Ever since I spent a year at a highschool in the US I only watch english DVDs and read english books. It's much more fun.

I share your pain... the first time I read that I was like "No... I certainly didn't read it right..." but then it appeared again and again and I was like "WTF?!"

I don't know if you mind, but I really don't like that they translate "Bones" to "Ossos" I mean, Booth calling Brennan "ossos" isn't the same thing... it sounds bad...

And I'm mad at RTP2... I'm so gonna email them again for not airing the second season already!! I'm gonna make them regret their decision of not airing it...

I think there are bad and good sides on calling bones ossos at your place. I mean, when ossos means bones (i think so but i don't know), they will have no problems translating "no bones, no bones..."
In Germany they call her bones (and i think it's pretty cool that they haven't translated that) but some jokes and stuff aren't the same in german anymore. Hate that!

    I'm from Niedersachsen

Haven't been to USA yet, but I'll be there a year after school as au pair. And for that I'm reading a lot in english (I love Kathy Reichs and Karin Slaughter in english, it's way better!) and watching Tv and stuff

Btw, do they cut some scenes out in germany? I dunno if they do. Just know that they do in Ncis and i hate that!
And ahhh, i'm so curious for the next german ep! I love booth shooting the clown on the ice truck

I hate lazy people. I mean, I'm lazy sometimes. But not when it comes to TV Certanly it's harder to watch shows in englisch. You have to be concentrated but hey, when you did it for some time you're able to listen and do things while watching. When i started watching bones in english i had to watch it 2 times to get everything. Now i'm able to chat while watching. It's not that hard to get better. you only have to want it and it will work.
And surely they it's right that they should translate shows for kids. but show that are rated for people at age 12 or 16 anyway could be just subtitled. English is an importent language. noone can say anything against that. no matter where you are the most spoken (second) language is english. there's nearly always someone you can talk to in english. and it will get more importent in the next years.

Oooh...RTP2, run and hide, because when your in that mood, I wouldn't want to be the end of your anger! Anlthough in this case you completely have my support!

That Bones-ossos thing...although it makes the jokes easier to get, like ziva said, it jsut sound weird, especially after watching it on Fox, where they let it stay "Bones"...it's just weird to see Booth entering the lab or something and yelling "Bones!!", like, for example, in Woman in Limbo, when she's talking with Ange...

    bye

Oooh another Finnish Bones fan, how awesome!

I must say the timeslot for the show when airing in Finland has always been so crappy, it's no wonder the show is not a huge success in Finland. Hardly ANY of my friends know of it.

I know! I myself had no idea about Bones until a friend here commented on one of my blogs about it I'm thankful she did. I have seen no commercials of Bones here... Well, that's Finnish TV for ya, I guess.

HEY SU!! I promised I'd visit the thread and here I am! For those who don't know me, I'm Jordina but you can call me JJ. I'm from Spain but I'am living in NY for a while....In Spain they translate ALL the tv programs! That means I'm quite used to watch Booth and Bones talking in Spanish... The truth is that I can only watch Bones in FOX channel too...They showed 2nd season and I don't know when they would began with the 3rd one....

I am lucky to be living in the USA for the last month because I could see the season 3 chapters and they are amazing!!

    HUGE HUGS!!

I love Kathy Reichs, too, I have read all her books before I knew the tv show and was actually scared that they mess the books up.I somehow hadn't gotten to the part that book-Brennan is different to TV-Brennan. I also love Karin Slaughter and Patricia Cornwell ( well, her older works, now she is a little confusing, but shewrites really similar to Kathy Reichs ).

I think generally they don't do much cutting as the timeslot is already taking care of that problem. But I remember when S1 started they showed 2 episodes in a row for a couple of weeks and started on 9 pm. One glaring cut was made in episode 1X03 "Boy in the Tree". When the body hang up they they cut off scenes of his head and body falling down. I saw that for the first time on DVD. Other than this single scene I haven't noticed anything. Hopefully that stays this way.

I can't understand that anyone can be lazy when it comes to favorite TV shows I even watched Bones when I was on vacation in France. Although I learned French in school I didn't understand that much. But I enjoyed just watching Booth and Bones .

Wow, where are all my fellow Aussie fans? We don't have any issues with dubbing over here, since we speaka de english. We do have troubles with actually seeing it though....gr. Anyway, dubbing sounds horrible. It's like when they dub American ads with Aussie voices here, I spose. It just looks wrong. And sounds wrong...

But, good news, I am now up to date with America! yay! I got a copy of 3x07 a few days ago. I'm in love with Dr. Sweets. He is hilarious!

terHey everyone! It's amazing how crazily multicultural it is on here! I feel boring for being from England Of course, we don't have problems with language, in fact I don't think I have ever seen a show on in the UK that was dubbed or subtitled (except films)....it's a shame. I would quite like to see shows from other countries (besides american/australian shows we already get,of course)

@angel: Yeah, those three authors are the best! i have Patricia cornwell, too. but only in german. I have At Risk in english, but it's not from the Kay Scarpetta series.

Haha, sometimes the dubbings can be really funny. No matter what english show I'm watching, or what film. There's always a voice I now and somethimes I'm thinking about this voice the whole film till I know where I know that voice from (fortuntately my boyfriend is as crazy as I am and is always looking for other people who have this voice, too ) (but i hat it, that the person who's dubbing house is an actor in "gute zeiten, schlechte zeiten". I hate this soap. and house in german has a really nice voice. there are voices that are crappier!

The funniest thing ever happened to me with dubbed voices was once at night. It was after 12pm, on some programmes porn time. The programme i watched (ok, i lay in bed, my head directed to the side of my room where no tv is) started with advertisement. i just took my remote control and searched, without looking to the tv, for a new programme. Suddenly I heard Zivas voice from ncis and was like "yay, ziva". Unfortunately it was a porn and zivas voice was one of the leading actors. NOT FUNNY! So I had to search for a new programme

What I hate about dubbed voices the most is, that when you watch it in english and you watch the show the next time in german everything is so unreal. It's not the same.(but booth voice ist not too bad)

@fireandsnow: You don't want to wacht german shows. they are crappy! On my school there is an american teacher for a year (and she's soo cool!) and we talked about german and american tv. She doesn't like the german dubs either and exept for one show she hates german tv. it's just so crappy. We have show that are like csi. But they are boring. I never watch those. you would laugh if you would see them dubbed

Oh, and I get the episodes the same time the people from America do, but it comes on the EXACT time as the Local News, 7:00 AND 10:00, and my mother insists on watching them both most of the time!!! But when I get the television back (long story)she will NOT be watching a thing on a Tuesday! Ha! See how she likes THAT!
