  • The episode that made me stop watching Bones.

    "Bad"
The addition of Cam at the beginning of the season was bad enough, especially with how controlling she was. Then, slowly but surely, they began destroying Zach. This was the episode where they basically ruined his character. I'm sorry, but how hard would it be to simply inform him he needed to clean up/dress up for court dates. His hair cut was AWFUL. Then there's the issue of Brennan's family. We learn that Russ has been lying to her for years, and her father is essentially a sociopath. He kills without remorse, yet we're supposed to respect him for that? Especially with the WAY he goes about it? This show went from being an interesting, quirky, forensic show, to crud in the space of one season. Great job producers and writers. Great job.
  • This episode not only redefined the way I look at Tempe but, I think, will redefine how she looks at herself!

    "Perfect"
State up front, I love this show. I will not miss it for anything and tonight's episode is the best example of why.

The "A" storyline deals with the body found on the roof and the release of an innocent man. When they find the former FBI agent at the start, we should have known that things are going to get complicated. Especially when we learn it is the roof of the FBI office (don't they ever go up there?). Anyway, when Tempe's brother comes and things start threatening, we should have clued in to the fact that their father has something to do with the case. And when Booth lost his job, "crookedness" should have reared its head but didn't. The priest was trying to warn them but didn't get through. More about this in a minute.

The "B" storyline is about turning a young man, Zack, from a geek who looks too young to a man. Defending a dissertation is challenging in itself, but for him to be trying to keep his job is added stress. The character is one -- I can't even remember his name most of the time -- but I think tonight we see a turning point for Zack too. He gets a new look and a permanent job.

Okay -- back to Tempe. Tonight, Tempe has to really face the ghost from her past. After finding blood and thinking her brother is dead, she turns to Booth who, for once, has no power to protect her. When she goes to meet the priest, Booth has realized who it is and tries to reach her. Booth is scared for her because he thinks the priest, who in reality is her father, might be going to kill her or make her disappear. Instead, Tempe's father has something to give her which offers protection and gets Booth's job back. That last line that Ryan O'Neal says to Booth: "Take care of her" tells us so much. He sees what neither Booth or Tempe see -- that we care for each other.

The final scene is telling. Tempe realizes that she will always be without a family yet Booth is there to point out that she does have a family -- the people at the institute and him. The celebration for the young doctor (Zack) is a family celebration. The news Booth has -- another body on he roof who died in the same manner -- is also telling. Tempe's father sends the message by killing Booth's boss that he will always be in the background taking care of Tempe.

I'm really still digesting this episode. I have to say I think that Tempe and Booth both grew in their characters tonight. I like the make-over. And, I hate to admit it, the addition of Ryan O'Neal as Tempe's father is a wonderful casting coup and makes me remember how good he was in his movie roles.
  • Brennan's father resurfaces, leaving a trail of bodies in his wake.

Unusual opening, starting with the crime rather than the usual beginning of the investigation.

This is a nasty case for Brennan. When her father ordered the hit on the man who killed his wife, it was still understandable. Here he deliberately, violently and publicly executes a man who was threatening his son. There's no happily ever after here, this isn't some misunderstood criminal who's a good father and deserves forgiveness – he's a cold-blooded killer and Brennan and Russ have to live with that, together with the knowledge that their father will continue to kill anyone who threatens them.

One of the terms for a priest is 'father', the reunion with her father doesn't go exactly as planned. While it is touching, it forces Russ, Brennan and Booth to pick sides. Booth's feelings for Brennan stops him doing his job, stopping a killer. And another man dies. You can't pick your family.

Angela does a great job on Zach's makeover, he looks very nice. They really have no right to pick on Zach about how to be an expert witness, have they forgotten just how bad Brennan is when she's testifying?!

    Great family episode, very emotional.
  • An episode that clues us in on why Bones is the way she is. And we learn that her parents may have been more than they appeared.

First of all, I loved this episode. It's one of those episodes that just fits, it wasn't a filler, it had a new character who will be involved in future episodes, and we got a look into the true feelings of Temperance Brennen. For a few seconds we see that sad little girl whose parents just left on Christmas one year and never came back. It clues us in on why she acts the way she does, why she prefers science over actual emotions. We even get some cute hugging scenes from Bones and Booth, showing how much she trusts him now. My favorite part has to be when they show Max burning the guy's body on the roof, with the song that plays, it just shows how good a scene the writers and directors of Bones can be. And the fact that Bones has a Father who basically says "Stay away from my kids or I'll hunt you down" is a weird way of saying "Sorry I abandoned you when you were a kid". A great episode making us appreciate Bones just a little more.
  • this episode is awesome!

I like this episode because its so sneaky, i really did not think that the father was the priest at first, i think they chose a really good actor, plus i love this show is awesome so yeah.... 10/10 in my opinion, i think it is kinda crappy for Brennen's brother to go with the father, which kinda screws over his family. I thought it was funny that they destroyed the lawyers car. the main thing i didn't like was Zack's 'transformation', who cares about looks if hes a genious right? but thats about it im just writing to get 100 words now

In this episode of Bones, the following happens. We open this episode with a man being killed and then his body being set on fire. We see Zach having a meeting about his thesis paper and Bones is also on the board. But soon when the body is discovered, Booth goes in and takes Bones out of the meeting and to the crime scene. Bones's brother Russ comes into town, saying that their father phoned him to say that they were both in danger. The body is soon IDed as a former FBI agent. When Booth and Bones go to his apartment, they find a locked room. When they get inside they find the walls are covered in photos of Russ. They soon realise that the case is lined to Bones's parents.

Soon an old friend (who is now a priest) of their father and he goes in and tells them his message. It simply says "back off". As Bones and Russ have a chat in the diner, a shot is fired and barely misses both of them. Things start to go a little wrong for Booth and he is suspended and so has to hand over his gun and badge. And so all of the squints work together to try and solve the case, so that Booth can get his job back (and of course the company car he loves so much). Zach goes to see Angela and asks her for her in help in giving him a makeover. Booth soon realises who took the shot at them, and realises that Russ maybe in danger and so they race to her apartment when he doesn't answer the phone. They then find a pool of blood on the floor and Russ is missing. Overcome with emotion, and believing that Russ is dead, she falls into Booth's arms. When they run the blood, we learn that it does not belong to Russ. Bones's goes to see the priest and she learns that Russ is with their father. Booth then learns that the priest Bones is with isn't a real priest. And its then that the penny drops, the priest is actually Max, her father. We also learn that Russ knew he was their father, when he first introduced him to her. As they talk, Russ turns up and father and daughter hug goodbye. But she tries to handcuff him to stop him getting away, but he manages to handcuff her to the bench and makes his escape as Booth turns up. He has to make a split second decision, to go to Bones and free her, or to arrest her father. As her father tells Booth to look after her, Booth races to free her.

As the episode ends, we see that Max, her father is actually the killer. Zach is revealed after his makeup and he looks totally different. As it draws to a close, we learn that Booth has been reinstated. We also learn that another dead body has been found with the same MO. They believe that Max is warning people to stay away from Bones. I've also noticed in this episode that ones and Booth seem to be touching each other a lot, like their arms, faces, leg etc. Very Sweet.
  • There's more than one kind of family

    9.9
    "Superb"
"Judas on a Pole" is another fantastic episode of Bones' second season.

I was really intrigued with the character developement in this episode. Brennan seems to be a lot more open and trusting towards other people (mainly Booth) - making jokes or seeking his comfort, which was really nice to see. You could actually see how far they've come in this episode by listening and looking closely at the little things, for an instance Brennan commenting on the size of Booth's place in the beginning and trying to put some of his "Black Op movements" to use, which he taught her, Booth telling Russ that he shouldn't drink the beer in Brennan's fridge, coz it tastes like ear wax, or Booth driving Brennan's car after they found the blood stain in her apartment. All this indicates that they are completely at ease with each other and spend a lot of time together.

And aaw how cute was Zack? After getting his doctorate he's willing to change his appearance so that he can stay at the Jeffersonian.

The last scene was really nice, the gang getting together to celebrate Zack's doctorate and Booth and Brennan sharing a moment while he tells her, that there's more than one kind of family.
  • Bones meets her dad again, Bones and Booth discover an FBI conspiracy, Booth almost looses his job, Zach finishes his doctorate and Cam decides that he's going to stay work with them.

This was one funny episode! Zach got his new haircut and a suit, but in the beginning of episode I laughed my a*s*s off, when Zach was saying to Bones how his... mentor gave him approval by patting his shoulder! With an open hand!

    :)

"I've read some book about body language, and it says that this is a good thing!"

Bones got on my nerves when her dad and her brother took off and she was handcuffed on a bench, when Booth came, she was just moaning "Booth, Booth, Booth!"

Oh, God, say something!!Other than 'Booth'!
  • One of the best episodes of Bones

I love this episode of Bones it's one of my favorites.

It was great to see Russ again and it was awesome to see Brennan's father. I loved how he cuffed Tempe to the bench at the end it was amazing. It was sad to see Russ and Max run off and leave Tempe behind! I loved how Tempe looked when she thought Russ was dead! It was so sad to see her that close to tears.

I loved how they had to exhume the dead FBI guy. It was awesome to hear Cam's voiceover. I loved Cam's voiceover it was awesome!!! It was cool that they discovered the FBI cover up.

Zack finally getting his doctorate was amazing as well. I loved how Hodgins put the funny hat on him because he needed time to adjust to Zack's new haircut. I hated that haircut because Zack's hair was so cute. He did look great in that suit though. I loved that Cam didn't wanna break the team up too.

This was an amazing episode with some amazing music by Placebo when Kirby went up in flames!
  • So far this is the best season 2 episode.

    *Spoilers*

After Russ gets a phone call from his dad informing him that his life is in danger, he goes to Temperance and tells her that Max said that she's in danger too.

Booth risks his job and Zack gets a makeover.

This episode is very special because we got to see Brennan's father for the very first time, Zack finally acheived doctorate and Booth almost lost his job.

It was very funny and amusing!
  • David Duchovny, as expected, has crafted an awesome episode of Bones. One of the most memorable and moving episodes of the series, up there with 'aliens in a spaceship', 'two bodies in the lab' & 'the woman in limbo'.

    9.5

What more could you ask for? The return of Brennan's family mystery and her brother, the confirmation that something is surfacing between Brennan & Booth, as well as a whopper of a case for the team, which becomes very personal for Brennan.

The filming and editing in this episode caught my attention from the first second and I couldn't take my eyes off of the screen. David Duchovny, from all his brilliant work with the X-Files over those 8 or so long years, has developed a great eye for angles and an amazing skill in directing a storyline. The 2nd season has been very consistent thus far and is very close to surpassing the overall intrigue of the 1st.
  • And I will say it yet again:just who do those two think they are kidding!!! You like each other!!!! Do something about it!!!

    "Superb"
This episode also features Brennans Dad, by the way, and Zack gets his first doctorate (though I don't know what Angela was thinking when she made him get that haicut).

Though I am not as concerned with these things as I am with the obvious romantic tension between B&B. I mean come on!! Normal workplace relationships are not like that! He loves her so much that it's not even funny anymore! And what makes it cute is I'm not even sure that she realises how he feels about her.

But please!! "I wish you'd stop letting me hug you every time I get scared"-you don'st say things like that to your colleagues!!! Honestly!! As a massive fan of the show I obviously hope it stays on the air for a very long time but I don't think I could stand six seasons of this level of tension without getting very frustrated!!!

More frustrated than I already am, that is.

However it was still an excellent episode and well done to David Duchovny for directing a cracker.
  • Once again the relationship between the characters carries this show beyond the limitations of the show's plot.

This was an outstanding episode. Ties with Aliens in a Spaceship as my favorite episode of the season. The reveal at the end was kind of obvious, but it in now way detracts from the show itself. The banter between the characters and the relationships continue to suck me into this show. I watch a lot of television, but this is one of my favorite shows ever. They hit the right note most episodes. This episode in particular goes a long way to fleshing out Brennan's character, as well as the lengths that Booth is willing to go for her. I am continually impressed that the show continues to choose characterization over plot. Not to say that the show doesn't have it, but the real attraction is the characters themselves, not the cases they solve.
  • My fav episode of the season.

Loved it! this the best episode of season 2 so far everything was perfect even down to the music. I loved all the plot twists sorrounding brennans father and I thought that the chemistry between booth and brennan was excellent the way he helped her through it all.

My fav part of this episode was when brennans dad (Father Coulter) tells her if she finds someone she can trust dont let him go and as hes away to get into the car he tells booth to take care of her i thought it was really nice.

And at the very end they're talking and zack comes to the window i so thought they were gonna kiss but that would be way to obvious wouldnt it!!!!!

They need to get together soon because its driving me crazy!!!!!!
  • And we all thought they just might kiss already

This was definitely one of the best episodes of Bones yet.

There was so much action and it made it that muchmore exciting! I loved Russ I really was afraid that he was dead and Brennan was brilliant!

I loved Zack trying to get his doctorate and Cam being brutally honest about his appearance made me want to smack her. I loved his new look and hated it all at the same time because it was new but not Zack. I loved how he went seeking Angela's fashion advise and Ange calling him cute was good too.

I loved Booth and Brennan's comment about hugging him was so cute. I totally thought they were gonna kiss at the end.

This episode had so much great stuff to offer. It had great action moments and it had the brilliant sad moments that almost made you cry. The stuff with Brennan's dad was very well done. All in all totally awesome episode that definitely ranks in the top 5 episodes of the show.
  • One of my favorite episodes that shows a bit of Brennans past! Love the chemistry between Bones and Booth at this special situation!

I love to see Ryan O'Neal in the show as Brennans father Max Keeanan. He`s a great actor and I would like him to come back later in the show.

Emily and David are so good acters too. They fit the roles they are playing perfectly. And who doesn't love to see Booth hugging Brennan???

Zack is growing up in this episode and I like the change in his character He`s still Zack, but grown up as a person! Dr. Addy how that sounds?!

At the end of the episode it`s poor Brennan losing her father and brother again, but I guess they both will come back once again!
  • Another superb Bones episode...

The classification 'exactly why I watch this series' is so true when it comes to my review. I really how this show character driven despite its scientific crime solving nature. This episode proved that ability even further. This episode was turning point in Brennan's personal mission to find out about her family and what they were involved in. It also reveals that whatever type of relationship Booth and Brennan share (friend? more than friends? partners?) Booth will always be there with her through thick and thin.

It was a very well made episode in terms of direction, and story telling. Why Not? It was directed by David Duchnovy (Hope I Got the surname right). It revealed so much about Brennan's family and yet a large amount of the story is still hidden. Brennan's father was a 'helluva' guy. He is so contraversial but despite all that his love for Brennan is strong.

I really liked the ending and start of this episode with the scene where Brennan's Dad is burning the FBI agents. It was a perfect way to start and close the episode. Judas on the Pole is one of Bones's best episodes......Yet.

P.S Zach's makeover was a total surprise. The exchange between Zach and Brennan when she congratulates him on his PhD was really sweet and goes to say that their relationship is more than your average mentor and student relationship.
  • Great to see Zack's charactor develop. The story line between Booth and Bones continues to grow in the right dirction. More surprises from Bones past concerning her family. You finaly meet her father. The plot just keep getting better. Keep watching.

One of the best episodes yet. This show is cutting edge. Informative and entertaining what more can you aske for. This truly is exactly why I watch this show. Character driven and a great story line. I think this show just keeps getting better and better. The characters evolve the story line grows exactly way it should. This was the next step in a really great story line that I hold my breath to see each week. The writting was great as usual. It really is great to see how the relationships in this story grow exactly as they need.
  • I loved it.

Really and truly, I thought this was the best episode of the season. There was just enough humor to counteract the darkness and angst. I loved the twist where Bones' dad ended up being the priest! How clever!

My favorite part, however, came at the end with the sweet moment between Bones and Booth. So, when are they going to hook up? Hehe.
  • Zach defends his dissertation; Brennan and Booth investigate a body hung like a scarecrow and burned atop a hotel roof. Brennan family angst many times over.

This is definitely destined to become a Bones series classic, and pivotal episode. And it isn't even a season finale!

Plenty of fabulous Booth/Brennan banter, as well as our favorite squints doing what they do best. The characters and how they work with each other is why I watch this show, and this episode did not disappoint.

Our little Zach is growing up! And getting his first Ph.D.!

Thank you to the writer (Hart Hanson) and director (David Duchovny) for giving us a well balanced episode-- too many shows out there can't seem to handle character background AND the main procedural element together in a balaced way. You end up with episodes that are all one or all the other. Not so for Judas on a Pole! Thank you!

Also well balanced and contasted are the light/dark, comic/dramatic elements. Even with all the seriousness of dealing with mutilated dead bodies and FBI conspiracies, we don't want for light hearted moments from all of the main characters.

Amazing! Amazing! This is a pviotal episode in correspondence to Booth and Brennen's relationship. It is also so amazing that she gets to see her dad. I love the turn. I also loved when he said take care of my daughter. I think this shows how Booth and Brennen are made for eachother. I need them to get together asap. I also love Zach's new look. He is so adorable with his little haircut. Angela and Hodgins also need to start dating. Their flirting is so cute. Cam needs to go. She is putting a damper on teir relationship. Bubye!

... exciting, dramatic and with a little touch of love.. Russ and Bones' lives are at risk and their father is telling the world to stay the hell away from his kids! It was such an emotional episode. Bones finally saw her father face to face. She even tried to arrest him, but he escaped anyway, leaving her with a broken heart and that terrible déja vú feeling.. about her family taking off and leaving her behind.

So cute to see Booth stepping out and being the rational one when Bones is desperate and overwhelm with doubt.

And conforting her when she needed him most..

Bones: I'm just that kind of person who doesn't get to be in a family..

Booth: Hey, there's more than one kind of family.

    Stay tuned for more Bones!!
  • A burned body is found atop a Witness Protection building. It leads to an FBI case from years ago in which a man was wrongfully accused of murder. Booth and Brennan race against the lock when Russ (Brennan's brother) goes missing. And about that Priest...

Dude, I knew the priest was going to be her Dad! When he started going off on the story of when she was younger I was like, "Haha! Who knew?! I knew!" LOL. But that last scene, outside the diner with the chin touch just about killed me. I've watched this episode more times than I care to admit (ok I will...*cough* 26 times *cough*) and it just keeps getting better and better. This was only the third new episode I'd ever seen...("The Woman in Limbo" and "The Headless Witch in the Woods" were the others). But since, I have become a crazy Bones fan. Gah, "Judas on a Pole" is heaven in Bones episode form. Why wasn't Bones nominated for a GG?! I mean, my goodness. Emily was soo phenomenal in this episode. Uh. Give this woman an award already! Can't wait for Bones to come back!!!!

I had no clue until right before Booth found out from the Prosecuter that the Father was Bones' Dad. I loved seeing Bones and her Brother interact. It was great seeing that they had healed old wounds.Brennen trying to do the "Black Ops" that Booth had shown her and failing and Booth just kicking in the door. Booth and Brennen going back and forth over the burned body they were looking at and Zack's meeting with the board. I loved seeing Kathy Reichs on the board. What a nod to her book fans and fans of this show, which I love both. Seeing Bones' reaction at the site of blood on her floor and believing it was her brothers. Her bond with Booth is getting so strong and I love that. She said she hated needing to hug him so much and he said well when I get scared you can hug me, I loved that. I think my favorite part though was at the end when Bones says she is not the kind of person meant to have a family and Booth caringly touched her chin and says their is more then one kind of family and you can see so much concern in his face. Also when Booth quesses that Zack got his Doctorate and Bones invites him in to celebrate and he says no they are your squints and Bones says No, we are all your squints. This is why I am addicted to this show.

I really really REALLY adore this episode...

    I have numerous favorite moments

It's the first time I heard Brenn laughed out loud

and I love the part when Cam is deciding if she should hire zach and the squints are lined up in front of her and said who is she to break up the team

and I also love the part where Booth admits that he kind of respects bren's dad and they argued because of it

I love it when zach showed Bren how he was patted by one of his panel

I love it when zach & bren hugged

I love thepart when booth is positioned to shoot max but then bren is calling him in a way of telling not to do that

and the last scene with Booth & Brenn, who doesn't love that???
  • Amazing revealing episode on Bone's family past strory. A fantastic David Duchovny directing the only episode that shows us the murder and murderer before Bones intrusion. Thums up also to Placebo's song. Great episode in all the aspects!

It was worth the waiting... Even from the start you can tell the new directing style: angles, colors, flash-backs... even the music. Everything is in the correct order and even more surprising, murder and murderer are shown.

David Duchovny's fantastic work breaks everything that we've seen in the show. This episode take us trough a personal journey that leads Bones to the edge... "What to do?" or even worse "what's the right thing to do?" Revealing a more personal and human side from Dr. Brennan, "Judas on a pole" is definitely one of the best episodes from the show... PS: Don't miss Booth and Brennan's aproach!!

It was like cool that Bonees got to see her father! I noticed that the priest (aka her father) Brennan also called him father...think it was planed. Haha it was also sooo cute every time Bones and Booth hug =] as she said she goes to him everytime she like gets freaked. It was great how like her dad at the end was like you take care of her (talking to booth and stuff.) Darn Zack had to ruin it at the end. I was like so ticked! Other than that it was like one of the best eps ever! =]]

There's this guy who was burnt and left on a pole. In the badly decomposed body is a coin with Brennan's dad's symbol on it. her brother Russ said he got a phone call from their dad sayind they are in danger. Then they meet this priest who says he talked to her dad in confession. Then Booth gets suspended. I felt so bad. Someone was tracking Russ to kill him. Then Bones fnds out that her ather is the priest or at least pretending to be him. When Bones tries to arrest her father for the murders he cuffs her to a bench and leaves with her brother. This was a very revealing episode with Bones and her dad. I didn't get the whole cover up thing but I still really liked this episode.
  • An absolutely stellar example of why this show keeps getting better and better. The writing and action were superb as usual. I have to say this is probably one of the top 3 episodes I've seen so far, and I've seen them all.

It was good to see more of the mystery of Brennan's family revealed. In earlier episodes when their history slowly comes out, you want to hope for Temperance's sake (as it is very human to do so) that there's some kind of circumstances that explains the initial suppositions. Ryan O'Neal was a very good choice as Dr. Brennan's father, very believable and he did an outstanding job. Though I was positive he was her father from the beginning but it was so worth watching. There was great build up and while there is still so much unknown for Brennan there were many questions answered.

Some might be disturbed by the burning men, but the symbolism and the connections to the past were very powerful images. Add the haunting music (I have to find that song from the end sequence with Kirby) and the episode fell so well in place.

    Magnificent.
