Hodgins' voice questions whether the idea that people only live once is false.
A woman comes home at 4:47am and goes to bed where a man is waiting.
Hodgins wonders if the woman is living the same life that she was living previously.
The woman is Temperance Brennan and the man is Seeley Booth. Booth tells Brennan that he loves her, and they begin to make love.
Hodgins talks of an upcoming storm.
An hour later, there is a knock at the door. Booth answers the door, and Detectives Camile Saroyan and Jared Booth tell Booth and Brennan that there was a body found at their club, "The Lab." The detectives escort husband and wife to the club. They find Brennan's assistant Zach Addy there with other staff. Zach found the body. Fisher is the chef; Caroline Julian is the club's lawyer, along with hostess Angela, coat check girl Daisy, bartender Sweets, bouncer Wendell, and DJ Vincent. Cam brings Booth and Brennan into the bathroom to see if they can identify the body.
Hodgins notes that this Brennan has never seen a dead body before.
Cam says that if Brennan had been in her office as she said, she would have heard the gunshot, and intimates that she was cheating on her husband. During the interrogations, the employees deny seeing the dead man, and tell about other possible suspects, who are familiar faces as well. Booth is in a dispute with a rap star named C-Synch (Clark), who wants his acts to play in the club. A crooked politician named Max Keenan is mad that he wasn't paid off for helping with the club zoning, and Arastoo Vaziri is mad because Booth and Brennan won't sell him the club.
Back at the club, Zach finds the gun in Vincent's gear and picks it up. When Cam learns that Zach's fingerprints are on the gun, he's arrested along with Vincent. Vaziri makes another offer to buy the club but cuts his price due to the murder, so Booth refuses and promises "to make the call" to Brennan. Stuck without a DJ, he agrees to let Sweets' band, Gormogon, audition. Meanwhile, Brennan finds out from Angela that she'd seen the murder victim, and drew a map which had an X at Brennan's office, suggesting that he was there to kill Brennan. Brennan takes the map to Max, and he says that she's probably right, and that everything would have been fine if they'd just paid him off. He also says that he and Jared work for someone named the Gravedigger, but Jared denies knowing anything, and Cam refuses to release Zach and Vincent because people are lying. Later on, Brennan tells Booth that the reason the employees are lying is because they think Booth killed the man to protect Brennan.
In the club, Gormogon auditions and impresses Angela and Brennan, but are rejected due to playing the wrong type of music. While they play, C-Synch's brother shows up and gets into a fight with Booth. Cam and Jared arrest them both. As they wait in interrogation, the two agree that if C-Synch can play in the club, his brother will keep all gang members away, and they are released. As Booth and Brennan look at options, Daisy tells them that she found where the would be killer was hiding, and Sweets finds Brennan's coat, which was used to muffle the gunshot noise, and he and Zach burn it out of concern that Booth and Brennan were behind the murder.
When Booth accuses Jared of working for the Gravedigger, Jared says that Brennan and Vaziri were having an affair, and Booth punches him. Booth learns from Angela that Jared had been at the club and saw the murder victim and the map, and seeing Max there, refuses again to pay him off, saying that if Brennan was hurt, he'd come after him, and hints that Max is the Gravedigger. As Booth and Brennan wonder how anyone ever solves murders, they acknowledge that they both know who the killer is. Jared had realized what was going on and killed the assassin to protect Brennan. With Cam and Jared about to get in a shootout, Brennan thanks Jared and talks him into giving up. At midnight, with Mötley Crüe playing a benefit concert in the club, Brennan tells Booth that she is pregnant, and they kiss.
Hodgins does one final voiceover that becomes Brennan typing on her laptop while waiting in Booth's hospital room. When he wakes up, she tells him that after successful brain surgery he'd had a reaction to the anesthesia and been in a coma for four days. After talking about how realistic his dream was, he asks Brennan, "Who are you?"
