  • A young singer, Tommy Sour, is killed and Booth and Brennan try to figure it out. Their main suspect is "Fat Pam", Tommy's stalker, is the original suspect, and turns out to be very important, although not in a good sense.

This episode has it all - a clever crime, Booth and Bones moments, and the dark humor that makes "Bones" great. But I think the ending scene in this episode is what makes "The Wannnabe in the Weeds" absolutely brilliant. Brennan finally lets herself go because Booth persuades her to. It almost seems like a challenge to her - I love the look that she gives him before throwing off her coat and diving right into the situation - and she goes for it. She really gets into it, too. She's clearly having a good time, laughing and jumping and dancing, and at this moment that Brennan completely lets herself go, and lets herself go because of Booth, everything goes wrong. This one moment where she is completely vulnerable, everything gets taken away, which I think must be a mirror to her childhood when her parents and brother left her. Another great thing about this scene is how Booth could not take his eyes off of Brennan. Everyone else in the scene is laughing and dancing and having a good time with each other, but Booth is sitting at his table, completely absorbed with watching - he's dancing and laughing too, but he never takes his eyes off of her. The moment when Booth gets shot, and Brennan rushes to her side is also a great moment, and shows how much they care for each other. All the other people are shocked, but Brennan rushes to Booth's side, and shoots Fat Pam without a moment's hesitation. Although the reason for her shooting may look and partially be because Fat Pam was pointing the gun at Brennan, Brennan also shot her as an act of passion because she was the one who shot Booth. The moment when Booth grips Brennan's hand tightly, although as to stay with her, and his blood seeps through her other hand is amazing. Fat Pam was an incredible character. She was so creepy yet so oblivious to the world. What makes her worse is that there are definitely the obsessive type out in the world just like her, and people may not realize their danger. This was a great episode.
  • One of my favorite episodes of Bones! It really shows the dynamic that is the Booth/Brennan partnership.

I just have to say that this is an amazing episode! Unlike a lot of people who have mentioned it, I thought the singing was a fabulous edition to the episode. I always enjoy a good preview of the victim before they die, and this was a perfect one. I enjoyed the fact that the casting director chose to hire some ex-American Idol stars to sing.

Although I thought that the idea of the neighbor being the killer a little thin, but I guess it was okay. The actor that they hired to play him wasn't the best, but the rest of this amazing episode is what kept me from lowering the rating of this episode.

All I can say about the last scene is wow! Emily Dechanel is an amazing singer! I wish she could've finished the song, but the plot line of Booth getting shot was also amazing. This last scene really shows how much Brennan cares about Booth. Booth also showed how much he cares about Brennan by not being able to take his eyes off of her. The only thing that could have made this scene better was if they had told each other that they love each other, but I loved this scene so much that I don't care. Amazing scene that I have watched so many times that I have memorized it.

Let me just say that Zach's singing blew me away! He really surprised me with it. I later learned that it was Eric Milegan's (Zach) real singing and I was even more pleasantly surprised. I very much enjoyed this episode and look forward to seeing it again and again.
  • A great episode, but poor, poor booth. Spoilers inside.

A nice twist, bringing some American idol contestants into it. I was a fan of Ace while he was on the show. I adored all the references booth said about American idol. Brennan didn't understand it at all. "Because of you", "thank you Paula" and "everyone thinks they are the next Kelly Clarkson" were a great addition to the show and brought out humor.

The case was nice, but the killer didn't seem like the killing type. He was right though, the alarm clock was annoying. Extremely annoying. It would have been nice to see Booth shoot another inanimate object and save us all from hearing the "beep, beep, beep" The episode seemed to highlight on booth and his stalker, foreshadowing what was to come at the end. The lady was flat out creepy, but it was no surprise that she ended up stalking a gorgeous man like Booth.

The ending was sweet, when Brennan got up and sang Girls just want to have fun. Emily Deschanel was not that bad of a singer, and I read in an article that she had to try and sound bad. With the promise of Sweets saying he would have sung as well was a nice touch to the episode.. I really want to hear him sing lime in the coconut. Brennan sounded so concerned at the end when booth was shot. Despite the situation, it was a sweet moment. I have seen the following episode, but it does really make you want to watch it right away. I have to wait until monday, the day it is scheduled to show on TNT. The joys of summer season, reruns of bones on for 2-3 hours a day.

I adored this episode, and the fact that it brought up the subject of socks. You really need to watch it. An over all great episode, one of the best of the season. The rating show that as well, this was an amazing episode. Watch it.

I really liked this episode, except I was very dissatisfied with the resolution of the murder case. The reason for the neighbor killing him was so weak. It's not impossible, but the way the actor played it, I didn't believe it. He said his neighbor was driving him crazy with all his singing, but the killer didn't at all seem crazy. The way the killer described it, saying he didn't mean to do it, was ridiculous, because how do you accidentally strangle someone with a wire? He said he was just trying to scare his neighbor, but generally strangling someone with a wire is not a good scare tactic. Not that we're supposed to believe him necessarily, but I just was annoyed by the weakness of the motive and the fact that the killer didn't at all act crazy. I'm sorry, but you've got to be a little nuts to kill your noisy neighbor. Thankfully, Bones is one of the few shows in this genre whose quality is not entirely dependent on the crime being investigated and its resolution.
  • AWESOME!

This is why I love this show so much... This episode was f****** excellent!!!!! It was full of excitement and laughs. Things can't get better than this... I know the show will keep this up.

I liked seeing Bones having a bit fun and the team gathered again, it has been a long time since last time. The funniest moment was when Hodgins barged into the interogation room and interrupted it all! Hahaha, what a fun moment.

And the shocking ending was so unexpected and so sad:( Booth getting shot was so dramatic, but I know he's not going to die... GREAT EPISODE!

In this episode of Bones, the following happens. We open at an open mic night, and soon the body of one of the singers is found. Soon he is IDed as Tommy Sour. We soon learn that he worked as a fitness trainer, and that a woman who they call "Fat Pam" was stalking the victim. They find out her address, and invite her in to ask her some questions.

Soon they find out where the victim was before his death, the open mic bar, and so Booth and Bones head there. Once there, Booth sees that Bones is really into the singing. Soon they learn of another singer, who argued with Tommy on the night that he died. As they leave the bar, we see Pam in her car taking pictures of Booth.

We also learn in this episode that Zach used to sing as a child, and still can. Pam phones Booth asks him to meet, but only him. When they met in his office, she asks him if he is dating Bones, to which he replies no. It gets even more worrying when she gives him a gift, a pair of socks. When they interrogate the man they believe killed the victim, Hodgins walks in and gives them evidence which rules him out. But the new evidence now points to the neighbour of the victim. And when they search his apartment they find the murder weapon, and he killed him because he wouldn't be quite. We end the episode at the open mic bar, and we see everyone there waiting for Bones to arrive. They have arranged for her to sing one of her favourite songs, and so she gets up on stage. As she starts to sing, Pam walks into the bar. As she sees the way that they look at each other, she calls out Booth's name and as he turns round, she shots him. Everyone starts to scream and Bones runs to help him. As Pam still has the gun in her hand, to fire again, Bones shots her, right in her throat, killing her. As the screen starts to turn black, we see Bones begging Booth to hang on, for him not to die.
  • There were some things I really loved about this episode and a few I didn't. The last scene was one of the best scenes they've ever done and Pam was a wonderful villain but the rest was mostly mediocre, unfortunately.

    Taken from my blog: http://obsessedwithbones.blogspot.com

Okay. I tried to keep an open mind about this episode and enjoy it. I can't rate it as highly as the recent fare, but it did okay. It had some annoying moments, some flat moments, some mediocre ones and some amazing ones. I'd give it 3.5-4/5 stars (or Bones/Bodies/Skeletons if you will).

    What I didn't like:

This @#*&!#^$ American Idol bit. That just ran all over me. Ace Young played his part well but I'd have much rather seen some unknown do it. It screamed stunt and while I'm sure it was good for both shows it just irritated me. Brandon Rogers has a much better voice but got far less publicity than Ace. Grrr. Okay, hopefully that's out of my system.

The Checker Box. It was just odd. The set itself was what bothered me. All grey and brown with nothing to focus your eyes on. It felt like a closet. I think a seedy looking bar would have been much better and appropriate.

    What was okay:

The case. It wasn't stellar but they did do the red herrings well. We went from Pam, to Chris Calabasas, to the manage, to Dax, to Jason and then finally to the real killer. That's a lot of jumps and high marks for that. Even after they found the murder weapon, in general idea, it still jumped from a guitar string to a fitness wire of some sort before finally resting on the clay wire. I love the misdirections in Bones and they did that well with this case.

I was a little let down by the actually killer, I guess. It's more fun when the killer gives you a reason to hate them. When they're just unstable it's a bit of a mixed bag. You can't quite get on the 'he's bad' bandwagon well when the killer just gives you the willies and provokes sympathy.

    What I liked:

The Bones/Booth interactions. There were a few great moments. It wasn't top of the line but it was good.

    What I loved:

Pam. That was a good creepy villain!

Cam and Zack together seem to have replaced Brennan in the lab. Cam does the leading and the sheep herding and Zack does the solid science bone work. My husband doesn't like this change at all. He wants Brennan back in the lab being the smart chick hero. I, however, love her evolution though, and I think they always intended for things to unfold as they are. Brennan is still a hero but she's forever evolving and forever reaching toward her full potential. While she excels in her field, she is more than just a scientist now. Zack is what she once was and we can't have two of them. Zack fits well into that role she has vacated and I think because of that we probably won't see a lot of character development for him (more's the pity).

    ~*~ ~*~ ~*~

Okay, on to the character breakdown!

    Pam

I'll just go ahead and start with Pam, played by Jennifer Hasty. Her site is here. I don't plan to often highlight the guests, but she deserves it. This is possible the richest single-episode villain they've ever had. And she wasn't even guilty in the case! We have to be catching on her way up. She played that so well. Who wasn't creeped out when Booth touched her shoulder and she got that sly look? And at the end? "I'm doing this for us!" and the pure evil when she began to try for a second shot...If it wasn't absolutely necessary for Brennan to drill her, she could have made a great freaky return.

    Cam

She had a few things I loved this episode.

    Zack: "I am deceptively strong."

    Cam: "I'm deceived."

There are people out there who want to see Zack and Cam get together, even for a one night stand. I just can't see it. They are so completely different it would be like an asparagus and a chicken breast trying to mate. I love how they play off each other.

Cam: I bet he was hot. (as the camera pans up his gruesome remains)

Angela: Yeah, well, now he's totally not.

It's amazing to think anyone could see his remains, get a bit of stats on him and think of him as 'hot'.

    Zack

I loved his description of working out. "I am deceptively strong." I can just imagine him robotically exercising. Somehow I see him doing it in complete silence, just counting out reps. He'd probably have it down to very specific times. Weights reps take 12 minutes, the treadmill takes...

"high degree of robusticity." I don't know why that line struck me as funny. Maybe anything like that coming from Zack would strike me that way.

Of course Zack had to be the victim again in another murder re-enactment. At least this time he had a valid reason for being the victim since both he and the victim are singers. Another nice point of that scene was a rare moment of everyone together and then they turn around and do it again at the end for Brennan's moment.

There was a lot of speculation as to whether the character would sing and a lot of desire to see it. Great choice in having the Vulcan sing about love. The gathering of most of the lab was priceless, as was watching Cam and Angela rooted to the spot in amazement and awe.

Eric Millegan is an accomplished vocalist who began his musical career at age 7 and since then he's done everything from Jesus Christ Superstar to Harold and Maude.

    Hodgins

Hodgins had a few quotable moments but he really shined in the interrogation scene.

"You're totally going to be cleared."

To be so worldly, he can occasionally be clueless. Or possibly it's that he just doesn't care. His intellect and his money both give him a sense of entitlement and pure 'rightness' that lend him a tendency to be overbearing. Not only does he bust in on an in-progress interrogation but he continues to push further and further into Booth's space. Booth even says "This is my place." but Hodgins doesn't stop. He tries to touch the case file on the table and even picks up Booth's pen as a prop. I loved the humor in that scene.

However funny that scene was though, it highlights one thing I don't like about Bones. They have serious secrecy issues when it comes to case details. They give out very vital information in front of people who shouldn't be privy to it. At best the infractions are with people like April (The Man in the Mud) and at worst they are in instances like this where the information is given in front of a possible suspect. This even happened in the actual interrogation room, no less. I know it's a TV show and they do take creative license but this is too much, in my opinion. They have to work with suspension of disbelief but with this repeated occurrence they take it too far.

    Angela

She was very much a background character, on par with Cam. I guess it's understandable since they was fairly central in The Verdict in the Story and is likely to be important again next week in The Pain in the Heart. There will be some hard issues, I think, next episode and who better than earth mother to comfort everyone? (Especially Brennan). I know it's impossible to give everyone solid face time. To do that they'd have to air a new episode every weeknight and while many of us could happily watch that the actors and the rest of the production crew do have lives!

Angela was definitely cute in the scene where Zack sings. It fits that she would be enamored with his love song and ability. She often seems like a proud parent where Zack is concerned. (Zack/Angela romance anyone? I could see that more than Zack and Cam.)

    Sweets

This poor man-child. He so wants to be a cool kid and he's sooooo not getting close. He tries to interact with both Booth and Bones and meets varying degrees of failure. He does prove his worth in the case. He gives them good advice about Pam that, unfortunately, goes unheeded. He tries to do the guy shoulder pat with Booth and gets firmly rebuffed and intellectually spar with Brennan where he sometimes is rebuffed and sometimes eagerly debated. I would say he's getting further with Brennan than with Booth but she still doesn't respect him anywhere near the level he desires. She hates his field and thinks him immature but she does respect his intellect and his credentials.

He definitely shows that his advice is worthy of respect, even if that knowledge is only gained in hindsight. He is weary of Pam's mental state and instantly realizes the mistake Booth has made by touching Pam. He has given Booth and Bones everything they need to know about Pam on a silver platter but they disregard it and pay the price. In the future I'd imagine they should learn the lesson from that but because the messenger is Sweets they are very likely to continue to often disregard it.

    Funny quote:

"Mocking will not change my opinion. I've been mocked many, many times before. That...came out wrong."

    Brennan

Boy they really put her ego on display here. She even got to add a new item to the list - singer! (Or 'Diva' as Booth said)

I think that there were a few good scenes for her, mostly talked about in the joint section below, but that this episode is a setup for what she'll have to deal with in the season finale and beyond. She's killed, again, and again to save Booth. I hope she has to deal with that a little. It would seem callous, as much as it affected her before, if they passed it over like she didn't even care the second time around. It should matter that she's killed, no matter who ate the bullet. Both of her kills were of people who fully deserved it but as Booth said to her before: there's always a cost when you take a life, and it's high.

However, I don't think she'll be focused on that at the start of next episode. Her partner has been shot. Is he dead? Is he alive? Is there a time where she might think he's dead or likely dying? That's some heavy baggage for her to deal with and it's emotional and Brennan hates emotions, especially hers. Nice foreshadowing from Sweets about her dealing with emotions and how it's painful. I don't think she'll react well, sadly. I just hope she lets Booth help her put the pieces back together.

I'm not sure what I think about her Pam conflict. In the past Brennan has been completely intolerant of weight issues yet she seems to bristle at the crazy artist calling Pam 'Fatpam'. Is that simply because it's incorrect? The initial impression is that she thinks he's insensitive but on a re-watch I'm starting to think she's far more offended in the name of accuracy than sensitivity.

She did seem a bit sensitive about the singers when they confronted the manager and the fake talent scout. "You lied to them. You exploited their need for attention. That's cruel!" and there was a lot of emphasis on 'cruel' from Emily Deschanel. I don't mind Bones being sensitive it's just a bit odd to see. She doesn't often care about the emotions of people who aren't clearly disadvantaged and somehow touching her (like the little boy foster child in The Boy in the Bush.)

All that seriousness aside, there were some great funny parts for her in this episode.

"How does a former sniper have a grass allergy? I mean, wouldn't a sneeze give away your position?"

"There is a fine line between health and vanity."

She's totally clueless on modern pop culture references.

    Bones: "Who's Kelly Clarkson?"

    Booth: "American Idol...Because of You..."

    Bones: "Because of me?"

It's subtle but there's a fine line of divide. She seemed to have been a normal teenager with friends who kept up with pop culture while her parents were still around but after they disappeared she became a serious-minded scientist with blinders on.

Booth and Sweets: "That's not funny." (as Bones snorts)

Bones: "Then why did I laugh?"

    Booth

Still saving the Booth/Brennan moments for below...Booth had a few things of his own to deal with in this episode and they weren't at all light - you'd think stalker alone would be enough of an issue but, oh, yeah, he gets shot trying to save his partner!

Booth sorta sets himself up for the tragic ending here. He likes to identify with witnesses, especially those he perceives as vulnerable women. Sometimes he loses his 6th sense for people's true natures and in this instance that, plus his kind heart towards Pam nearly gets them both killed. Parts of him are very aware that Pam is a psycho nut-job but it's either weakness, or pride in his own abilities, but he continues to let her ride the Crazy Train until a nightmare happens. I can imagine him having a few nightmares about failing to protect Brennan. (I feel a fanfic coming on right there...) He starts to see it when Pam insists on meeting him alone: he steps protectively in front of Parker's picture and he even points out that it's inappropriate. But he still doesn't realize how truly insane she is.

It was odd to hear him call her 'Pammy' and more than a little disturbing. I'm not sure they meant that he was making fun of her or that he was too close to her. I hope they meant the first but they really should have had a different tone of voice. It sounded intimate and therefore very wrong and out of place.

While I really, REALLY want to see Booth and Brennan as a couple I like that they don't forget he's a man. And a man who hasn't 'gotten any' in a long time. The ogling shots in the gym fit perfectly into that. On the flip it's funny to watch him be so shy about sex. He can't even say it when interviewing someone, instead making a bunch of hand motions until Brennan steps in and asks the question.

He had a few great lines, like calling Brennan a "Diva." and:

Bones: "Hey, break down the door."

Booth: "It hurts my shoulder when I break down the door." How anti hero! And how awesome!

More of a funny line from PsychoPam but straight man matters too.

Pam: "P A M, do you know what that spells?"

    Booth: "Pam..."

"One more show tune and I was gonna start shooting."

"I'd say you're kidding but I don't think you know how to kid."

"Why, because it cut the cheese?" He's such a little boy at times. It's a good character trait.

"Okay, I'm just going to break you two up. (Drags Sweets chair to the side) You're giving me a headache. You keep this fighting up and no one's getting desert."

I love how Booth tries to be so off-putting to the guys who want to be close to him. Sweets tries so hard to become best buds and Booth puts him off every time. The look he gives Sweets at the end when Sweets has his hand on Booth's shoulder...classic. And the scene with Hodgins is well played by both of them - Hodgins comes in, Booth pushes him away. They both play physical comedy nuances off each other well, hearkening back to the byplay in 'Two Bodies in the Lab' in Season 1.

    Booth/Brennan

There are some pretty good BB interactions here but I think the real point of this episode is to set up for what's ahead. I think these two are truly at a crossroads. They are so close to crossing his relational line (see 'The Man in the Cell') that they will either have to cross it or have something happen to that causes them to temporarily step back. You can't keep that tension forever. I think it will be option 2, for a time.

The fact that the normally episode-ending diner scene was in the middle this time should have been a big sign that something else even more important was going to take over the ending. The dinner scene was great. They alternately bickered and fished for compliments. They both got to glow that the other person admires them which was sweet and it's always good when Brennan says something nice about Seeley. We see very powerful looks from David Boreanaz but with Bones we need to hear the words. She rarely seems to do it without qualifications like "Well, objectively, I'm more intelligent...in certain areas." but it's nice when she does it, no matter how she finally gets out things like 'superior mate' and 'superb agent'. Booth may be an a-typical hero but he still needs to hear that he's heroic especially from her.

Booth calls Bones 'well adjusted' and doesn't reassure her in the first scene with Pam because he's told her before that she's well constructed and such. I want him to step up and defend Bones more than he defends Pam but I think it's been well established how he views Bones and he doesn't feel that he needs to say it.

The setup at the end is very intimate. You don't do something like that for a casual friend. That's what a mate does and only a mate would realize how important something like that could be. And he is definitely her biggest fan when she gets on that stage! He's giddy with excitement and dancing in his seat. The lighter was a great touch It's an amazing and powerful scene to see such intimacy between them and such happiness and then go to such high drama and fear. He set this up as a gift to her and finishes with the biggest gift anyone can give: laying down his life for her. He stepped in front of Pam's gaze when she looked at Parker and here he again puts his body in front of what he loves to shield. He's not stepping up to talk Pam down, he's drawing his gun to kill her and in that split second it takes him to do that he's put his body up as a shield for Bones. If he'd had time to think it wouldn't have changed anything. He may be a-typical but never doubt how heroic he is.

    Random cuteness:

Booth: "Nevermind. Just stay here (with him, focused on the case), not up there." (ignore the singing)

Sweets: "The corrugator muscles are..." (pointing to his forehead)

    Bones: "We know"

    Booth: "I don't know. I don't know that."

It's cute that Brennan is sure that they would both know that and at the same time very anti-hero of Booth to say that he doesn't know it.

    "Diva!"

    ~*~ ~*~ ~*~

I'm just going to cut myself off there. I could find so may bits in this episode to talk about that are significant, despite my general blah attitude about the episode as a whole. This is already far too long. Just draw your own conclusions! I eagerly await next week's season finale and fully expect it to be one of my favorite episodes.
  • Probably the worst 'Bones' episode I've ever seen!

    5.0
    "Mediocre"
What can I say about 'The Wannabe in the Weeds'? Well there's the cliche-ridden plot, the hopelessly directed effort by the director who managed to elicit some of the hammiest acting I've seen for ages (even from the usually reliable regulars!) all leading up to a shocking ending which wouldn't have been so bad had it not been so obviously signposted throughout the episode. We start, as usual, with a non-federal crime being investigated by the ever present FBI, with Jeffersonian Institution members tagging along (don't they have life of their own?). The body and head is soon transported to the Institution where 'in a flash' it is found to be Tommy Sour, a wannabe singer and keep fit freak. Strange that the squints always managed to find the identity of the body, no matter the state it is in, so easily each week, Usefull that! No-one thinks to 'walk the grid' at the place where the body was found for any signs that the murderer may have left. Very sloppy that. Lincoln Rhyme would be apalled!

Booth and Brennan - wait a minute I thought Temperance's role in this was as a forensic anthropologist, whose job was the find the cause of death not the investigations of the crime - then investigate possible murder suspects. Oh, I'm forgetting this is a romantic soap with a bit of crime thrown in and with all real life logic ignored! Anyway the murder suspects all identify themselves by some of the hammiest acting seen for ages. All of them overact in such pathetic attempts to appear as 'bad guys and gals'. The lady playing 'Fat Pam' leading the pack. You could blame the poor cliche ridden plot, the abysmal directing or the lack of acting skills or all three of them. The denouement at the end of the episode was signposted in every scene she appeared in. She phones Booth on his mobile and when he asks where she got his number she replies that the FBI switchboard gave it to her! Are we in cloud cuckoo land or what? No-one, certainly not the primary investigative arm of the United States Department of Justice would give out a telephone number of one of their agents. They would, in the real world, take the caller's name and telephone number and say that their agent would get back to them!

Dr Lance Sweets puts in an appearance and apart from revealing his teeth again shows why he is now in the show. His observations of the various possible crime suspects is a plot device to give the audience clues as to who the guilty one is without any actual real proof.

I've never seen an episode of 'Bones' where Booth has been so ill-behaved - his bad mouthing of the singers at the open mike contest 'whilst they were performing' was reprehensible. He should have been thrown out of the building FBI agent or not!

Eventually the actual murderer was discovered. And again when he was faced with the very slim evidence he admits to the murder. Pity Booth hadn't read him his rights beforehand since this confession wouldn't have been allowed in court! And then we come to the final scene. With Booth and all the squints present we see Brennan doing her Cyndi Lauper act. At least her singing attempt wasn't as excruciating as Zach's attempt earlier in the piece, but it was close. Meanwhile we had the long expected appearance of Fat Pam - "watch out she's got a gun!" - no surprise there. She attempts to shoot Brennan 'cos Booth prefers her; Booth intercepts the bullet and falls to the floor; Brennan has time to retrieve Booth's gun and shoot Fat Pam and then we get THE BIG SCENE.

Now in the right hands this could have been been really dramatic - but I'm afraid that everyone, and that includes all the regular actors who usually do put on creditable performances, here produced maudlin efforts. I think I'd blame the director here, surely the actors left to their own devices would have brought forward more credible reactions to Seeley being shot and possibly dying (he won't of course, he's an Associate Producer).

So with just one episode to go can we expect the series to get better? Judging by some clues as to what happens I suspect not. Could be a sign that the series has finally 'jumped the shark'.
  • Interesting case but the highlight is definitely the stalker.

Quite an interesting case though all the singing got quite annoying after a while. The one element of the case which was fascinating was the victim – and later Booth's – stalker.

Perhaps it was only a matter of time before someone as gorgeous as Booth got a stalker. This isn't some passive fan but a full fledged, psycho dangerous stalker who plans a wedding with her parents with a guy who barely knows her name. Said psycho then follows her beloved to the karaoke club and accidentally shoots Booth. He's a lucky man to be shot surrounded by people who are experts in this type of thing so can stop him bleeding to death.

This is only the second episode that I can remember in which we see the victim before they're murdered, the other being 'Soccer Mom in the Mini-Van'. We certainly see more here, and it's adds a nice human touch to an episode where it's not all about the actual murder.

Pam really creeped me out. I mean really. The whole scene in Booth's office with the gift gave me chills. She played it perfectly.

My favorite scene, of course though, is the end. Booth seems like he is just giving a thoughtful present to his partner, the right setting for frivolity. But you compare him to the others and you'll see that they're completely different. They're having fun, but he only has eyes for Bones. He is so into her. And when he gets shot protecting her, Bones unhesitatingly shoots her dead on. She is also the only one down on the floor, holding him. Everyone else is frozen with shock. But that's just how their relationship is. They're so close they can't even see it for what it really is. And it's beautiful.

This episode was very good overall, as most of them are. But in some respects it fell a little short of expectations. The characterization was great as normal, with the interplay between the two principals driving the story. The writing was fantastic and the sets suberb. However I had three main problems with this episode.

One. Booth is supposed to be a well trained FBI agent who naturally understands people, and yet in gets sucked in completely by this woman. Pulled into a situation without his vaunted powers of observation warning him.

Two. Its to fast, the woman goes from being obsessed about the dead man to killing bones over booth in about five minutes. They should have done this over a two episode arc if they wanted to follow this story, it was simply to quick.

Three. And the largest problem I have though, is the killing of Booth. Come on, I cant see anyone really believing that that he died. There are two characters that the show could not survive loosing and he is one of them, therefore why bothering throwing in such a obvious lemon. If it was to throw a curve ball into the bones/booth relationship then that should have lasted more than one episode as well. It just seems a lot of work for nothing and a big waste of time and storylines.
  • For the most part a very normal episode, but it is also a good example of the increasing violence on the show.

    6.5
    "Fair"
This was a fairly typical ep, except that the beginning starts by following the soon-to-be victim, rather than jumping straight to the crime scene. I am not really a fan of this sort of entry but it did seem to work ok.

I am still loving the role of Sweets in stirring up the conflict between Booth and Bones, and I thought getting Zach to sing was a nice touch. One thing that has been bothering me in Bones is how often the baddie is being killed. At the end of the ep Bones shoots the perpetrator in the head resulting in instant death. She shoots immediately, barely needing to aim and gets a perfect hit right in the middle of the forehead. Which makes me ask, if Bones is such a great shot, why kill rather than injure? Especially when the woman would come under the category of mentally unsound rather than psychopath.

Booth also as a former sniper is meant to be a great shot yet his first instinct seems to be to kill. The series finale ends in another unnecessary death, and even followed with a comment of 'no loss there'. Even though Bones is a show about death and justice, I thought it also has a strong element of respect for life, yet it seems to have dropped off lately. I think the show already has enough death without the two main characters adding to it. Sometimes I yearn for the days of Buffy when she would throw away the gun and say 'these things, never useful'.

This episode had so many things going on. Booth has a stalker who gives him socks, Bones is claiming she can sing like Cyndi Lauper and Sweets is starting to enjoy his job a little too much. Pam really freaked me out, I new she was starting to take a liking to Booth I just didn't expect Pam would try to shoot Bones. Then Booth taking the bullet that tells you how much he cares about her. When Bones said she could sing I didn't think she really could bbut when Booth set up that thing at the club, wow I didn't expect that voice to come out of her mouth. It was also a surprise when Ace Young starred as Tommy Sour, I'm not sure if that was a good thing or not at first but once the show played out it got better and better. At the end I almost cries, I thought oh my gosh he's dead! That killed me but it added suspense to the next episode. Like I said it was the best episode, welll one of the best episods of BONES ever!

This episode was what i like best about this series. it nearly made me cry (not as much as pain in the heart did.) we finally get to see bones open up and let loose when sweets and booth get her to sing onstage. when booth is shot, we see how much bones cares as she cries over him and tries to get him to stay with her. and who can forget zack singing?? it left me hanging ang wanting more. i loved it!! one of the best of the season. and we found someone else to hate in pam, the stalker who nearly separates bones and booth forever.
  • A 'wanna-be' singer is found dead and his stalker turns her affections towards Booth, with disasterous consequences....

    8.5
    "Great"
There was a lot that I liked about this episode I have to say.

Firstly, I actually loved all the singing- Tommy Sour (aka Ace from S6 AI) was really good, and surprisingly so were Zack (though not my kind of music) and Bones. I loved her singing 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun', and her mother was right- she was better than Cindy Lauper :)

I can't speak for anyone else, but I enjoyed the 'stalker' part of the storyline- it was a bit different, not something you would expect from BONES. I though that the actress played Pam very well, portraying her as seriously deranged, and Sweets analysis of her made it completely plausible (to me) that she transferred her affections to Booth. I also loved Bones' reaction to Booth getting shot, not that I liked Booth getting shot of course! Her picking up the gun and shooting Pam, although in self-defense, felt more to me like a 'knee-jerk' reaction to her partner getting shot. Bones normally thinks about things before she acts, and in that moment it was all instinct. Her trying to save Booth and her talking to him, the looks they shared while she was putting pressure on his heart, just reaffirms- again- that they have feelings for each other. No doubt whatsoever. However, there were two things I didn't like so much about this episode. Firstly, I kind of felt that the actual murder investigation kind of took a backseat, not sure I can really explain why. Just felt to me that the singing and stalker side of the episode took presedence and that annoyed me a little bit. I like there to be good murder stories as well as great character interaction and development. Also, I didn't like that Angela had basically a non-existant role in this episode. I enjoy her character, the humour and 'normality' that she brings, as well as her relationship with Brennan- their interaction often reveals a lot about Bones and I was just disappointed that she was hardly in the episode. Looking forward to the finale next week, even though I know who Gormagon is!
  • This is a mix of fun, humour, some surprisingly good singing and drama-definitely lots of drama...

The opening is a few minutes of singing, including Tommy Sour starring as himself and later turns up dead following 2 weeks of disappearance.

Again this episode the case is complementary rather than primary issue. But it links up nicely with more development that builds up around and after the case.

The main link is Tommy Sour's deluded, unbalanced and highly dangerous (according to Sweets) stalker. Fat Pam soon after focus her attention on Booth; believing he belongs to her. The ultimatum that followed shortly by her giving him socks and taking secret photos- was when she tailed him to the restaurant where Brennan was persuaded to perform Cyndi Lauper's song. The entire team was there. Booth was really enjoying Brennan's performance when an angry Pam cried out his name and believed she has to take out Brennan for their sake. But Booth stood up and took the shot that was meant for Brennan. When a dazed Pam tries to take another shot, Brennan with ease and deadly accuracy, fired back which killed Pam instantly.

What i love about this episode:

    1. Everyone's so at ease with each other, other than the usual jokes, there's Zack's surprisingly good singing and everyone's surprised looks

    2. Brennan also gave a lively cute performance. Everyone was so supportive.

    3. For once, Sweets doesn't look like all-talks only. He correctly profiled Fat Pam which Booth& Bones ignored initially.

    4. The chemistry: the way Booth was looking at Brennan as she performs. The best emotion are that conveyed without words

    5. The drama: the ending of this episode was an absolute cliff-hanger. Thou i was sure we won't lose our major hero. It's dramatic nonetheless.

One of the awesome episodes of season 3.
  • Booth!

Big thumbs up! One of the best of the season, definitely the best since the show returned from the writers strike induced hiatus. Great cast, I was very interesting in finding out what happened to song boy (American Idol alum Ace Young). He had a small role but he was relatively charming in it none the less. Crazy Pam was also an interesting turn to take, it was clear she was a loony and when Booth touched her shoulder during their little interrogation date I had a feeling he would be her next stalkee but I was still surprised that it happened. Even more surprised when it took a turn for a worse! She shot him, she shot Booth. That was just...it made me jump a mile and a half. You could feel something coming when they showed us Crazy was in the bar but for a second you didn't know if it was Brennan or Booth that she was going to shoot. And Brennan looked so scared and devastated afterwards. It was so sad to because it happened during her song. She was good, really good! Both Booth!

Side note, how wonderful was Zach's singing? And he was good too! It was so unexpected and cute and just wow. Loved it, loved it, loved it.
  • Really good episode.

This episode was fantastic!!! I was so interested in it. I could have never predicted the ending. Fat Pam was pshychotic, I knew from the way people were talking about her and how she acted. And I thought that it was funny how they had two former American idol contestants on the show, and how they kept talking about American Idol. Fat Pam became obsessed with Booth, I knew that wasnt gonna end well! And when Brenan went up to sing at the end, I thought that was funny, I didnt think that she would. And Booth was such a dork, but in a cute way. The real shock of the show was when Fat Pam came with a gun, and saw how Booth was looking at Brennan. It was so cute and brave how Booth saved Brennan by taking the bullet that Fat Pam shot at her. It was really a touching moment. And the show left us hanging, is booth gonna live or die.

A very special episode in which the bond between Bones and Booth continued to increase.

The case was about a wannabe singer getting murdered. The killer happened to be his next door neighbour. The murdered singer had a person, Pam, who was fascinated by him. She planned a wedding to him.

But then Pam started fascinating about Booth. She started planning life with him.

In the end of the episode Booth and the rest of the team took Bones to sing and whilst she was singing and having loads of fun, the psycho came and when she saw Booth watching Bones and enjoying himself she shot Bones, but Booth got in between and took the bullet. He collapsed immediately. Then Bones came down running towards Booth and without hesitation she shot and killed Pam. She held Booth in her arms and was crying. Her eyes showed how much she cared about him.

The case they did in this episode wasvery interesting. The one thing you could recognize was all the American Idol references made by the show, proably to get more viewers since A.I. lost 7 million this year. I'm betting that David borenaz is freinds with the man who played Dax, because they have both appeared in Buffy. Fat Pam was very interesting because she seemed to be a person that Sweets should have shrinked. The singing by the actors were great espically Zach's which sounded as if he had done it professionally. The final two minutes were very shocking and totally crazy because i did not think that was going to happen
  • Creepy stalker

    "Perfect"
I have seen so many episodes in different shows about stalkers, but no stalker has freaked me out more than Fat Pam. It was scary the things she was doing and how sick her mind was for her to do what she did to Tommy, but also was she did to Booth.

She lived in this world of fake and when Tommy dies, she begins to build a new fantasy with the next person that was nice to her: Booth. Sweets was right and was as always very helpful with the investigation.

I understand why she was jealous of Brennan... Booth only has eyes for her. I'm getting to that.

Btw, I was pleasantly surprised to hear Zack singing, he has an amazing voice!

So Booth gets everything ready to have Brennan sing. And you have the whole gang cheering her up and having fun with her. I see how Angela looks more serious and more mature (maybe it's my imagination) but she looks different in the new episodes, like the woman who is ready for commitment. Brennan takes the stage and she begins to sing. Everybody is having fun, probably making fun of her but there's someone who seems to be totally in awe with her: Booth. I don't know how to explain it. The deep looks Booth gave Brennan during the whole scene are incredibly amazing. He didn't have eyes for anybody or anything else. He's living the song with her, feeling her feelings... I don't know how the director told DB to play this scene but I don't think those looks have nothing to do with acting. I believe that there's a very nice friendship between him and ED that make them play those kind of scenes so easily.

Back to the episode, what a shocking moment for Brennan. Booth is shot and she reacts with anger, fear and survival instinct by killing Fat Pam while Hodgins covers Angela. And she directs her attention to Booth. Poor Brennan, she was so desperate. She won't lose her father anymore now that he's free, but what a terrible thing if she lost Booth. Her crying, her begging, her words for Booth were heart-wrenching. LG

When a singer is murdered and leads to a thing of unsolved other murders, that has the team to investigate why and how they were realated to that person. Meanwhile, there are wisecracks made in American Idol made by none other than Booth as he is the comic relief in the show. While Bones is more of the straight man type. We find out that a woman who took interest in the singer now turns her affections on Booth. But you know that will make Bones jealous as it does. Despite the writer's strike shortened the season, this was a great season so far. Can't wait for the finale!

Without giving away any spoilers this was a superb episode. This is exactly why I watch bones. The mixture of humour, excitement and those oh so special BB moments just leaves me wanting more. I had no idea "whodunnit" at the end - and I am normally pretty good at guessing these things. The misleads were so convincing that I honestly had no idea how this one would end - and boy WHAT AN END!! It left me desperately waiting for the next episode - sat in my room staring at the screen and shouting "no no no you can't stop there!"

If you haven't seen this one yet - watch it!! You will NOT be disappointed!

The episode centre's around Tommy Spur, he's a wannabe/pop idol singer making a living as a fitness instructor by day and singing at a talent club at night, when a decomposed body is found by a grass-cutter the team are called in, the discover the body is indeed Tommy and take the investigation out to several suspects all who had a possible motive for murder, one of these suspects is a women who was obsessed with Tommy, naturally Tommy didn't feel the same way but 'Pam' became obsessed to the point where she told her parents her and Tommy were to marry, Booth has to tell Pam of Tommy's death and when she get's upset Booth being the gentleman he is console's her, bad move, now Pam has a new target and it's not looking good.

As the investigation moves along more suspects are quizzed until the team discover what the murder weapon was and arrest Tommy's next door neighbour who's an artist and used a clay wire-cutter as the murder weapon. Now it's the final scenec that shocks people as it's so unexpected, during the episode we find Zack can sing, and sings well, Brennan tells Sweet's and Booth she can sing also well, oh and we still have Pam stalking Booth, so at the end the whole team are at the singing club Tommy used to go to, they get Brennan on stage to sing Cyndi Lauper's ' Girls Just Wanna Have Fun ', as she's singing and Booth, Cam, Zack, Hodges, Angela and Sweets get into the swing Pam steps through the door, she becomes angry that Booth is watching Bones on stage so she takes out a gun shouts his name then........

    Cannot wait till next week.

What a funny start! Open mic night!! I live those things. That guy is cute and sings very well.

Cute guys get killed, I hate that. I can't get tired of these two! We have a different type of people, a artist, a fitness trainer, a stalker, a guitar player, a singer, a manager, a scout.

All this different type of people is linked somehow with Tommy. Sweets was right, Booth shouldn't have touched her. This time he was really right.

Zack a singer, I'm still stunned. Angela was stunned also, who your have thought that he could sing like that?

Those reenactment part is always interesting, that is a great way to see the crime.

And the responsible was the first one.

That final scene, man that was intense. Bones also sings very well but I had a felling...

When I saw Pam entering the Check Box, I knew something was going to happen but not that, never that!!!

A new, funny and amazing side of Brennan, shaded by what happened next!

How can something be so great then five seconds later a total nightmare??? I just couldn't move. I was speechless!!!!

Wow, didn't see that coming. Sorry to be redundent but this is a prime example of exactly why I watch this series.

There was a lot of character devolopement that made this episode one of the best I have seen yet. Hodgins coming into the interro' room, Zack breaking into song, and Brennan taking someone down. I'm not usually a fan of suspenseful endings, but I can tell you that I know right where I will be come the start of the next episode! Dr. Psychology is even beginning to grow on me. So keep the entertainment rolling writers! This is why I tune in at night.
