Border Security is a programme about guarding the shores and seas of Australia against illegal fishing, workers and dangerous goods. Each week features the ingenious and imaginative ways in which illegal drugs are trafficked - even using a box of children's toys and biscuits (instead of biscuits the boxes contained thousands of steroids!) People also try to smuggle food, plants and wood in their luggage, even though on their flight they have to fill in a declaration card (in their own language) stating if they are carrying anything then they should declare it! We also have the navy chasing illegal fishermen. Of course many have been refused entry because they are trying to get entry to work illegally. It really is a fascinating programme
No one knows what really happens behind the scenes at the airport. Border Security details how different Australian governmental agencies work together in keeping their borders free of crime, disease or non genuine visitors.
This show is a must see if you're interested in finding out how Customs, Immigration or even the police work hand in hand to investigate travellers who come in a country with the wrong intentions. It seems to take a lot of common sense but also flair to dicipher what's in the back of some traveller's minds. It's very informative and can even help the average joe understand the do's and dont's of international travelling. Who would have thought that so many people come into big Australian airports every year and a few of them get caught by customs for bringing in prohibited items (can be mere fruit, animal skin or drugs), some get arrested by Immigration because they are travelling with the wrong paperwork or even worse try to enter Australia with the intentions of working illegally. Now you know why Australia is so protective of its borders.
This show may not be a "must-see" for me, but when I do get around to watching it I am never bored.
Since 2001, national security has been the big talking point, whether in real life in things such as airport security, or in TV shows and movies which seem to love going to the topic. This show however shows us what really happens. I just find it very interesting to see the actions of obviously guilty people who try to get away with smuggling, or importing illegal items into the country. As well as this, the way that the customs officials work to find out the information, or simply what they find in the luggage does not fail to amaze me.
Overall, if you're looking for an interesting, informative show about what customs officers and immigration officials go through every day, you can't go wrong with Border Security.
