    • George: Listen, I have an early surprise birthday present for you. When is your birthday, by the way?
      Jonathan: In about six months.
George: Oh, well, then this is very early.

    • George: I love martinis. They heal all wounds.

    • Jonathan: Why was [Priscilla] your best wife?
George: Everything with her is as intimate as kissing. I never really got over it. Most orgasmic woman I've ever been with.

    • Leah: I don't feel good about this. I don't want you to be a sperm donor.
Ray: But it's flattering. They're fans of my work. I've never had lesbian fans before.
Leah: They should go to a sperm bank. You can't just give your sperm to two girls you met in a cafe.
Ray: I met you in a cafe.

    • Ray: Okay. I'll trade you therapy for sex. It's been almost three weeks.
Leah: I think it's sweet you know how long it's been. (goes to Ray and hugs him)

    • Jim Jarmusch: So I really loved your novel. Dark, funny, perverted, beautiful. You must really suffer from the terrifying clarity of your vision.
Jonathan: Thank you. I do suffer. Thank you.

    • Claudia: Are you a man or a boy?
      Jonathan: Well... what's the difference?
Claudia: With a man, you feel like you're being taken, and you like it. And with a boy, you feel like they're stealing something from you, and you don't like it.

    • Dr. Worth: You're going to go to your mother's!
Claudia: You can't deal with being attracted to your own daughter!
Dr. Worth: Do not-- do not try and pull transference on me. I invented transference!

    • George: I'm very oral nowadays. I feel like I'm... half-man, half-infant.

    • Leah: I'm proud of you for going to therapy. (kisses Ray who doesn't kiss back)
Ray: I'm sorry, I can't tonight. That guy eviscerated me. My penis is totally recessed.
      Leah: What?!
Ray: When I was a little kid, I used to like to push my penis in to make it look like it disappeared. Today, it happened all by itself.

    • Dr. Worth: Sounds to me you're leading a double life.
Jonathan: I think that I am. I'm like a Russian doll. There's all these versions of me in me.
Dr. Worth: There's only one you. And he's running away from his life.

    • Dr. Worth: Lives don't change. We simply become more comfortable with our core misery, which is a form of happiness.

    • The woman complimenting George on his hummingbird tie is a recreation of the numerous times people have taken notice of show creator Jonathan Ames' own hummingbird tie in the past. Ames wore the tie during the first day of shooting for the second episode, and the show's hair-mistress commented on it.

    • When George says, "All of my internal organs are women," he is supposed to then refer to his penis and say, "Except for him. The one proud rooster in the menagerie" as written in the original script, but the line didn't make the final cut due to time constraints.

    • In the scene wherein Leah and Ray argue about giving away his sperm, she raises the issue of overpopulation and the "island of plastic the size of Texas in the Pacific." Jonathan Ames specifically included the lines about plastic in the ocean because Heather Burns (who plays Leah) has strong feelings regarding the issue.

    • The scene where George and Jonathan attend a party to meet Jim Jarmusch is filmed in Angel Orensanz Foundation in 172 Norfolk Street, New York, New York. The film location for the therapist's office/home is in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

    • Featured Music:
      • "Mulatafuzaqueira" by Arto Lindsay

  • Allusions

    • Ray: He gutted me, like a fish.

This is a line from show creator Jonathan Ames' first novel, I Pass Like Night.

    • Jonathan Ames going to a therapy session with Dr. David Worth is somewhat intented to be the writer's homage to another HBO show, In Treatment, which revolves around psychotherapist Paul Weston and his patients.

    • Ray: Thank you, Boo Radley.

Boo Radley, a character in Harper Lee's 1960 novel To Kill a Mockingbird, is the town recluse who leaves small gifts inside a tree outside his house for the children of Maycomb to enjoy.
