  • Trivia

    • The June 02, 2009 edition of Edition NY: Sports Issue includes the following features: "'Janet Saves the Day': A Cartoon Special", "George Christopher on Richard Antrem and GQ", and "A Tale of Two Stadiums: ... Monuments to Sensory Overlords".

    • Jonathan: George, do you remember when you told me that I needed to be sane when you were insane?

In "The Alanon Case," George orders Jonathan to punch him in the face to cover up his herpes blister before making an important speech. His scheme doesn't work as the crowd still notices his blister under his bruise. George then tells Jonathan that he needs him to be sane when he is insane.

  • Quotes

    • Ray: What if [Lisa and Michelle] got into a car accident? What if they're in a coma?
Jonathan: I don't think they would both be in a coma.
      Ray: They do everything together.

    • Ray: For years, I've been jerking off purely for medicinal reasons, like lancing a wound. But trying to have a baby with [the lesbians] has given it new meaning.

    • Barista: (about the cooler) Why were you always carrying that thing?
Ray: I don't mean to be rude, but I was transporting chilled semen.
      Barista: Shut up.
      Ray: You shut up!

    • Ray: (drops coins in tip jar) Sorry, it's all I got. I'm kind of a starving artist.
Barista: You look like you eat all right to me.

    • Ray: When I get high, I realize that I clench my anus.
      Stella: That's not healthy.
Jonathan: You clench it all the time?
Ray: Yeah, but smoking helps me unclench it.
Stella: See, that's why pot should be legalized.

    • Jonathan: Hey, who's this? (pets Suzanne's dog) Hi. I didn't know you had a dog. What's his name?
Suzanne: Philip. I got him to get over you.
Jonathan: You replaced me with a little white dog named Philip?
      Suzanne: Yeah?
Jonathan: But you could have held on to me. I'm not neutered. I don't beg for food. I don't have to be walked.

    • George: I sometimes do wonder if I have children out there, you know, that I don't know about. I had a lot of one-night stands in the '70s. And in the '80s. Also the '60s. Jesus!... I've been fucking forever.

    • Jonathan: Louis reviewed my novel in Slate. I believe the headline was 'Next time, Jonathan, try writing with both hands.'
George: That's a good line. What's it mean?
Jonathan: That I was masturbating while typing. My mother read that review.
Louis Green: Think of it this way -- at least your novel produced one memorable phrase. I happened to write it.

    • (after Lisa and Michelle disappears with Ray's sperm donation)
Leah: I can't believe they did this to you. I feel like I've been robbed.
      Ray: But it's my sperm.
Leah: Yeah, but your sperm is my sperm.
      Ray: Really?
      Leah: Yes. (hugs Ray)
Ray: I guess I should get my sperm stolen more often.

    • Ray: Even that building is laughing at me.
Jonathan: Do you think the architect purposely made it look like a gigantic cock?
      Ray: Yes. To humiliate me.

    • George: You know how you deal with bullies?
      Jonathan: Tell the teacher?
George: No. No, you fight back. You kick 'em in the balls.

    • Episode writer and show creator Jonathan Ames does a voice cameo as one of the tenants in Lisa and Michelle's apartment building.

    • Jonathan's apartment in "Stockholm Syndrome" is an empty studio space in a building owned by painter Charlotta Janssen. For this episode, the apartment is recreated in a sound stage.

  • Allusions

    • George's insult against Richard Antrem about having a mouth similar to that of a starfish's anus is directly taken from show creator Jonathan Ames's novel Wake Up, Sir!.

    • Louis Green: 'Next time, Jonathan, try writing with both hands.'

This line, which is part of Green's book review of Jonathan's first novel, is an approximation of an actual anonymous review received by show creator Jonathan Ames for his fourth book, My Less Than Secret Life.
