Born to Win

Show Summary

Born To Win is a sports documentary that originally aired on BBC One on September 27, 2003. It consists of a single one-hour episode that is presented by Dermot O'Leary, a regular BBC television presenter since 2000. This documentary is the finale of a BBC initiative to identify future sports stars in the United Kingdom. This competition is limited to athletes between 16 and 18 years of age, and begins in January 2003 with almost 5,000 applicants. A series of trials during the year whittles this pool down to 20 finalists who compete in a final competition in St. Anton. This competition selects a winner of each gender, who receive financial support for their training. Born To Win shows the highlights of this competition and also recaps the previous trials. The finalists receive mentoring from Sally Gunnell and Colin Jackson, former world-class athletes. Professor Dave Collins from Edinburgh University provides the finalists with psychological support and Steve Ingham of the British Olympic Medical Institute offers coaching advice.
