It simply doesn't get much better than this. Denny takes Alan fishing to help him get over his breakup with Tara.

The newbies finally grew on me in this episode- Sara and Garretts entrapment of the Reverand was funng and brilliantly done- it was easily their best episode.

Catherine was as hilarious as ever- I loved the bit where Shirley, Tara and Brad discover the body as well! The writers certainly didn't let us down here.

The best part, however, was the fishing trip. Alan and Denny are easily the best pairing on the show- it really made me laugh, especially when they woke up in bed next to each other, and Denny shot the fish! Some of the best scenes the show has ever produced!

Overall, an excellent episode- the Season begins to hit its stride.

This episode is so funny it can almost not be put into words! Simply hysterical. Catherine Murders Bernard and Denny & Alan go fishing. When Denny blows the head off the fish is a great moment. When Shirly finds the dead body is also a great scene. This show is the one of the craziest and funniest, however most touching and well written shows ecer. All that is not to mention the acting! The cast is easily the best cast on television, and the best cast of any show or movie in a long time. Absolutely fabulous in evry respect.

A very funny episode as Denny and Alan go to Canada to fish salmon Catherine Piper is arrested for the murder of Bernard Denise is still on her devoirs case ver all the episode was great the Denny and Alan storyline was the best as when Denny says he came out here to enjoy nature and don't talk to him about the environment was priceless the only thing that drags this episode down is the devoirs story of Denise as I always found that story very boring and did not care about it at all that is all I have to say

These is the most funny episode I've seen in my life. It was painful to watch because i couldn't stop from laugh teen. I believe these episode was made to kill people from laughter. So Alan breaks up with Tara and Denny takes him fishing to Canada to take his mind of her, and that where the fun begins. You should see Mr. "not a nature person" catching 15 fish and Denny not catching one. My favorite seen was when Denny and Alan woke up to find them selfs in the same bed hugging, the look on they faces when they woken up, Denny:"we slept together" and then Alan:"i wont tell anyone, i promise":)). I also like the phrases that Shirley said:"I make over one million dollars a year and I'm in a beistment looking for a dead midget.", not to mention what Danny said to the other lawyer "I came out here to enjoy the nature, don't talk to me about the environment."
  • Fantastic episode.

Tara breaks up with Alan so Denny takes him fishing to forget about the break up. This is Alan's first fishing trip ever but he manages to catch loads of fish unlike Denny who does not catch any. Also Shirley defends Catherine who is put on a murder charge abnd requests Alan. Overall loved this episode especially where Denny shot the fish. Also Alan and Denny end up in court over a Samon fight. I really liked this episode. I know that Tara will leave soon but why? I can't get enough of this show the writing is just so good by Kelley.
  • This one is done all for the laughs...Is that such a bad thing?

Alan and Tara's relationship has come to an end. It was bound to happen sooner or later. In television, it is the catch that people most want to see. When Alan finally caught Tara, the whole relationship was doomed. This particuler storyline has played out 100 times on 100 different shows.

However, the consolation trip to Canada was a pure delight. Alan's not a nature person (Surprise Surprise) but allows Denny to drag him to the great outdoors. The banter between the two of them is pure comedy and makes this episode more comedy than drama.

The b storyline involves Rose's murder of Bernie. In the past, there would generally be a more serious storyline to balance out the humor. However, this one is also playing for the laughs. When she asks the judge for the "Robert Blake Jury," will probably be the moment that defines when the series stops becoming a drama at all. But aren't there already enough dramas out there? The new and improved Boston Legel is going more for the funny bones than convictions. If that doesn't suit you, then you can always go to Canada and shoot a fish.
  • One of the best episodes ever...

Everything about this episode was perfect. It had some of the best one liners I have ever heard in any tv show (Did you say "Klingons"?) First of all, putting Denny and Alan in Canda was brilliance. To see the way they acted in the wilderness, then in the canadian court was awesome! I laughed quite hard when I saw the two of them stroll into the court. Hysterical! Then, when they woke up in the same bed....I laughed till I cried. Not to mention that Alan had on a Boston Red Sox shirt. Touch of brilliance. I also loved the interactions of Catherine and the lawyers at the firm when she told them that she murdered the little creep. I liked it at the end when she asked if she could get the Robert Blake jury. Rather amusing. This was probable the funniest Boston Legal to date. I only hope that they continue to be as funny.

Denny and Alan go to Canada. Catherine Piper is booked on murder charges. Tara is finally going off the show and why did they replace Monica Potter with Julie Bowen? Monica Potter is much better at being mean than Julie Bowen. The two junior attorneys are still walking around the office doing all the work.
  • Possibly, the funniest thing I've seen all season.

With respect to My Name is Earl, this episode of BL might have been the funniest thing on television all year.

I'm not sure where the Betty White thread is going (not sure I like the rehash of Bernard was a little evil man stuff) but the tandem of Shatner and Spader are fantastic.

"C'mon. I'm suffering," Spader asks. "Throw me a bone!"

"Just go to sleep," Shatner replies, "and you're not getting my bone."

The two guys play off one another brilliantly and the writers have done an excellent job with the one-liner wise cracks. Add to that the camera work (just as Shatner asks "Did you say, "Klingons"?)

  • An outstanding and riotously funny episode! Denny Crane takes Alan Shore to Canada for a fishing trip after Tara breaks up with Alan. Canada will never be the same, but then again, neither will Alan Shore.

Boston Legal takes a turn toward the lighter side of the law. We follow Denny Crane and Alan Shore on their eventful sojourn to Nimmo Bay, Canada, as they catch some fish and ponder the meaning of life.

Denny Crane (it's difficult to just call him Denny) wants to help Alan get over Tara, who broke up with him even though she wasn't going back to her old boyfriend. Alan is reluctant but agrees after some cajoling. As the two ride in a helicopter, Alan is clearly out of his element. The master in the courtroom can't handle the ride. He is equally inept at fly casting as Denny Crane introduces him to fly fishing. Alan catches on quickly though. Is it his native intelligence or is it the repressed free spirit inside of him that begins to bring him success? Or is it just beginner's luck as Crane claims?

Alan begins to gloat about his increasing catch total. Denny grows frustrated. Meanwhile, another fisherman recognizes Denny Crane's name. He is a lawyer who is in Canada to fight against the opening of a new fish hatchery. He claims that other hatcheries have become breeding grounds for sea lice, which infest wild salmon as they swim by. Denny, who is no environmentalist, snaps at the young attorney. "I came out here to enjoy nature. Don't talk to me about the environment!"

Alan is intrigued by the case. At the cabin, he reads up on sea lice. He notes that they are sometimes called "cling-ons." Denny Crane (played by Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner) looks up and asks "Did you say cling-ons?"

The next day, Alan continues his fly-fishing success while Denny continues to grumble. "It's right in front of your mouth! Bite it!" he screams at the fish. "You miserable bastard!" Alan pulls in another fish. Denny decides to try a new method--shotgun! "Got one!"

As a result of his improvised technique, Denny receives a "time out" from the guide. He is sitting on the beach, muttering about the guide and the uncooperative fish. Alan walks over to him and mentions that the guide isn't very happy with him. Alan adds that they could join the young attorney at the court hearing. Why not? Alan gets on the phone to Tara who is busily thumbing through Canadian rules of civil procedure. In Canada, lawyers wear black robes with white hanging collar tabs. The judges are addressed as "milord" and never as "Your honor." [Some of you may wonder how Alan and Denny are able to enter the case without being members of a Canadian bar. It's the result of a Canadian regulation called "Poetic License."]

The young attorney is arguing his case when Alan and Denny Crane walk in. They have black robes and white tabs on, but they are still wearing their waders. They have also donned traditional English wigs. The judge informs them that they don't wear wigs in Canada.

Alan makes a spirited argument against opening the new hatchery. The judge takes offense to an American telling him what to do. Alan Shore admits that America's environmental record isn't perfect, but he notes that he--an American--came up to Canada and discovered the beauty of nature. That nature helped Alan to learn about himself and his instinctive side, which rarely comes out. Denny Crane isn't as diplomatic in his comments. "Watch it your honor. You're talking to a superpower. We'll have to add you to the axis!"

Alan's speech seems to have swayed the judge. He closes his statement by addressing those who expect only "shock and awe" from America. He says that he leaves with just two words. Instead of speaking those words, he turns to his left and watches. On cue, Denny forcefully states "Denny Crane . . . eh?"

At the firm, we see Shirley Schmidt attempt to contain the mess created when Catherine Piper killed Bernard, the little man who killed his mother and a witness. Catherine confesses to the police upon the recommendation of Shirley and the other attorneys at the firm, but Alan Shore must represent her at trial. Garrett and Sara concoct a scheme to help Denise fight her husband's alimony demands. The latter story gives more substance to the new characters, but at this point they remain secondary to Alan Shore and Denny Crane.

Tara appeared in a few scenes. She had much more screen time than in the previous episode. Lori (Monica Potter) continues to appear in only brief cameos. It will be nice to see more of Tara before she leaves the show for good.

This episode featured Alan and Denny in a different place, a different environment. For once, Denny was out of his element, but not for long. We got to know Alan and Denny as people, and not necessarily as lawyers. Alan remains as intense and competitive as ever, but he was featured in one of the funniest storylines of the entire series. Alan Shore is usually a source of drama. Now we know that he can provide healthy doses of humor also.

Alan and Denny enjoy their traditional cigar and drink on the balcony after they return to Boston. They agree that the trip was good--for both of them. Denny says "I think Canada liked us." Maybe. In any case, viewers of this episode liked them as there was much to enjoy. Another outstanding performance from both James Spader and William Shatner!
  • Theres more than one way to catch a fish

By far this has to be one of the funniest episodes of Boston Legal.

Denny brings Alan to Canada to get over the breakup with Tara (She truely will be missed). Alan upset that Denny brings him up there to learn he won't catch any fish and then trumping Denny and catching an amazing 15. While there they learn of the plight of the Salmon and about Sea Lice and Alan talks Denny into participating in the Canadian Court proceedings. Walking in with their fishing garb, wigs and robes Alan gives one of his greatest and most passionate monologues about the destruction of ecosystems.

Back in Boston, Shirley convinces Catherine to turn herself in after Catherine notifies her she killed Bernard.

That trial will definetely be one to watch

Easily one of the best episodes since John Laroquette appeared on The Practice. Exceptionally funny. And interestingly an episode spent almost entirely out of the courtroom. It was easy enough to guess that Betty White whacking off little Bernie was going to be a storyline to follow, the trip to the Great North was unforeseen and provided the biggest laughs.
