This should have been the Season Premiere if you ask me! Although it was such a brilliant opening with Denny saying "cue the music"! Had me in complete hysterics!

I liked the new guys. Jeffery Coho was really entertaining, and I liked his whole attitude and fast talking. The writers also seemed to have give a new rival to Brad which is good.

I didn't like Claire at first, but she really grew on me throughout the episode with Clarence/Clarice. It turned out she has a very human side, and I liked her connection with Alan in this episode. The murder case is one of the best the Series has done, and also one of the longest cases they have ever tried, and it was a really masterful bit of story telling.

Denny's involvement again provided the amusement, it was entertaining highlighting his bigotry, especially with the balcony scene at the end!

Overall, this episode was much more like an opening should be; new characters, new dynamics, and brilliant story telling. Excellent.
  • okay now see, this should have been the season premiere. It even had new opening credits.

This episode wasn’t just Boston Legal standards - it had that little extra. It had comedy. And not just one-liners like the previous episode but lines that were incorporated with the emotive stories and they were still funny nonetheless.

I think this is the first series where new characters have ever been introduced and I wasn’t sceptical nor entirely dismissive of them by the end of the episode but actually loved them. Clair and Jeffery are without a doubt superb. It took several episodes for Denise to ease on me. Even Shirley as well ( I used to feel she was plain ol’ heartless).

Anyway, the episode featured the hot mom over 50, Katey Sagal play the mother of a clerk who is just being accused of killing the judge he was having an affair with. This subplot seemed like it was supposed to have a main theme of comedy. And that carried on through most part of the episode, with the clerks theatrical arrest, Jeffery fast-talking and challenging the DA, inspector and judge and then the press amongst other things. But one of the most memorable part of the episode was where the judge brings everything into perspective. A woman had just died; a potentially innocent man’s freedom is at stake and we had some woman on TV turning the situation into a soap opera.

This is another rare occasion where a case is lasting over an episode and it does seem to have the potential of being great. Time would tell.

The other plot was that of the transvestite which I think would have seemed silly in writing but when these beautiful cast bring it together, the portrayal is exemplary. The he-she was fired from work for using lady’s room and his boss promises to allow him/her return if he could just stop using the supposedly more hygienic facility. But as a matter of fact that is not Claris’ problem. Claire had been very dismissive and blunt with his character from the start to the extent that some harsh words were exchanged. But its not just the huge juxtaposition of this one character that actually makes me like her, but the fact that it helps prove to Clarence that we all have multiple personalities and we have the capability of not letting one take over the other. This was also a character consistent episode…especially for Denny. It showed how far his intolerance against…well… everything/one goes. There was a moment when he was at the restaurant and a beautiful lady walks in and then he smiles at her and then she seems to be smiling at him but she really wasn’t. And when she walks past him, you sortta feel sad for him. And then his excellent acting skills is able to capture the audience and make us curious as to if this beautiful woman would be interested in him if she realized that he was old. But alas, (I’d try NEVER to use that word again), she was a dwarf who has adored deny since her youth. It was moving and still hilarious. And one does feel sad for her and also think that she deserves to be compensated for damages. The only thing is that, since he’s that rich, it wont bother him. Typical? I hear ya!

The main problem here is, how would he explain this insensitivity on Larry King?

I personally feel that his character, even though seems to be taking the turn for the worse on whether or not to be like, is the most staunch. There are people we absolutely adore in the world but they have this underlying hatred for a group of people that might just seem different from you and I.

Highlights of the episode: Denny’s lines, period! ( the one where he says ‘midget’ instead of ‘children’, a Muslim could be hiding behind all the make-up a transvestite wears…though offensive, still is funny), Claris’ entrance, the tape that shows that Scott Little wanted to kill the judge, the staff meeting and introduction, Shirley telling Denise blatantly that she not good enough to make partner, the entire opening scene, Claire and Clarence’ lines before the ’Boston Tour’ and Brad and Jeffery’s ….little tiff.

This was one of the best hour of TV and it does give me high hopes for the next episode. I would expect it to be outstanding. Plus Ivan’s coming back.
  • This show is great but the opening was outstanding.

This is one of the best shows on tv. I love that they crossed over from The Practice with a similar genre but made it a different show completely. Allan Shore is one of, if not the best characters on television. Followed or equal to maybe Denny Chrane and Jack Bauer. This episode starts of as the best opening sequences on TV for two of the jokes that Denny makes. The first one is when he says to the new lawyer if you were important you would have been in the season premier and the other one after groping the chicks ass when he says que the music and the theme comes on. Its like the writers were drunk when writing the opening and just played around. Great stuff
  • I think that character Claire is great and a perfect match for the rest of the cast. The actor that plays claire I think is great. I saw her in a criminal case series and a comedy before that. Keep her around.

Great new characters in Claire and that new law partner. Keep Claire around and give her more time. Her character matches perfectly with Allen Shore and Danny Crane. Her direct approach is very enjoyable. That new partner also is good for the show. Every new character introduced brings something, but these two are great.
  • The new kids make a big impact.

It took a while but the show has finally found new hires as compelling as the rest of the cast. Jeffrey and Clare work in so well, you think they've been around for a while. Their entry was well handled with another "breaking the fourth wall" moment and I enjoyed their first meeting.

Jeffrey shows his stuff right off, matching Brad in sarcasm as well as fast talking, catching Denise's eye. I enjoyed seeing his scenes getting involved with the murder case, getting in the faces of the DA and the police better than Alan could. And yet he still shows a bit of vulenerability as at the end when he sees the tape and realizes he's in trouble. Clare is also good, sarcastic and blunt which makes pairing her with Alan a natural. Their case seemed pretty silly but became quite interesting with the reasons the man dressed as a woman and Clare softening to help him over that. I look forward to seeing her in court and how that attitude helps her. Anyone willing to walk the streets of Boston wearing a Yankees cap is obviously not going to be intimidated.

The stuff of Denny and the dwarf woman shows yet another way Denny doesn't quite comport to society and her calling him on it legally was good. So a good intro to the new faces and I look forward to the murder case developing as it's been a while since we had a case extending past one episode. Looks like this season will be a nice improvement.
