Boston Legal has become my second most anticipated television show. Right from the beginning the funky, in your face music gets you ready for an hour of brilliantly written and performed quirky funny stuff. I recorded last week’s episode “Stick It” and just watched it last night. I think the title say’s it all. In this case, however, I felt like the stickee. As usual the writing was excellent, the characters were animated and quirky and the acting was superb yet this time I was left feeling slapped around, scolded and lectured by a giant, all knowing, morally superior wagging finger and left to stew in a dark pool of gloom and despair. If reducing the number of viewers is the goal, then they are on the right track. A smarter writer, at least in terms of intellectual honesty as well as good business sense, would acknowledge the existence of other viewpoints and, if the show is supposed to be a comedy as opposed to an editorial, lampoon the silliness from extremists on all sides. In this case the writers took the low road and chose to use the show as a tool to ambush an unsuspecting audience with a heavy dose of “Everyone agrees with us so what the heck is wrong with you? 101”. They also remind us that, if we dare to not only disagree, but find their factually challenged arguments irritating, we somehow are denying their right to free speech. I’m guessing that most of those who agree with the writer’s obvious opinion won’t see any problem here, and emotionally I can understand that but, politics aside; the writers used the show as a pulpit, forcing their sermon into the story line like a square peg in a round hole. I used to watch Boston Legal to be entertained; I will not watch it to be annoyed by intellectually dishonest editorialists.

The Season produces another fine episode.

Nevertheless, the case involving Melissa wasn't as good as the one involving Jerry earlier in the Season. However, the episode did excell in Alan's closing- it was very amusing. The kiss was well done too- very subtle but very honest. The judge in the case was hilarious too! Denise's case was amusing- the bit with Denny was hilarious! The fake policemen/dating plot also brought some amusement- I actually quite liked the dude! I thought he was quirky and entertaining!

Paul and Rachel provided some drama too, but it was nice to see a happy outcome for all involved. Rachel and Brad continued to show some chemistry as well.

Overall, not the best episode this Season but still entertaining in its own merit.
  • Show indicates that sometimes we Americans can be a mean heartless people

The last scene on top of the building between Danny and alan is the best, when Alan quotes Learned Hand: If the people don\'t have compassion in their heart, the Constitution doesn\'t mean a thing.

Danny asks for him to quote a Republican: \"Ok, I wish we were a kinder and gentler people.\"

Great episode, but Shattner greatest role was as the Army aide in \"Judgment at Nuremberg\".
  • not outstanding in the way that the episode was special but all in all enjoyabble.

Not sure what other people complain about Kelley\\\'s poltical views esspecially in this episode where he actually kind of makes fun of it given that Alan\\\'s former assisstent picks up Alan\\\'s idealistic traits in a completely unapprobiate(read unwinnable) way that leaves even Alan baffled and state that he thinks she should be punished.

I found Alan and the new judge hilarious in this episode and the other plots had some interesting developments.

All in all a funny and enjoyable episode.
  • Great episode.

Melissa is arrested for not paying taxes and Alan is fored to defend her. Meanwhile during the case Alan realises that she is coming across unpatriotic and they need to win over the jury. So with a strong closing Alan gets on their sides and they win. Brad helps with an intervention on Pauls daughter. Denise's love life leaves a lot to be desired for. So overall i thought this was a good episode. This has been a fantastic season which i have loved, i cannot wait to watch the next episode which i hope is even better than this one.
  • David Kelley strikes again - especially in reminding us, the jury, of the litany of traitorous acts by the present administration, and how the stifling of dissent has been taken to the extreme. Casting old comedian Shelley Berman as the dottering judge wa

For those who rankle at the messages contained in stories penned for this program, it should be noted that finding fare that titllates is no problem for you...go there and leave this show alone to reflect, in its inimitable fashion, the folly and absurdity of twisted values that govern us today.

ALan Shore may be a lone wolf howling at the moon, but those who watch and listen will be enormously entertained even as they learn something about the greed and control that has taken over the American culture.

Outrageous? Yes. Untruthful? Never. Absurdly concocted? Occasionally. But, never let it be said that it's boring.

One more thing about Boston Legal - as with its predecessor, The Practice: Kelley's storylines invariably raise what courts and conscience raise every day - the very serious ethical dilemmas we must work through to make our world a sane one.

Illustrative of this genre is the storyline involving Paul (Rene Auberjonois) and his addicted daughter. Paul is the hard-nosed partner, so he appears ruthless in pushing his daughter into treatment for meth addiction, despite her protests and generally warm demeanor.

In fact, Paul has rightly ferreted out the truth, and while his intervention is questionable in its legality, his daughter stuns us with her admission to the charges wwhen finally in treatment. Her behavior and conflicted life is utterly typical, but the character knows she's been busted in more ways than one and succumbs by enabling her father to care for her daughter - his reason to intervene in the first place.

This is the stuff that critics often fail to grasp about Kelley's genius. and his writing is so superb, if often off the wall, that we become squirmingly entagled in these lives under siege.

Great story this week. Sticking it - the protesting Post-It note on a blank return, that is, was hardly worth prosecuting under any circumstances, but that's Kelley's take on this government's willingness to stifle dissent. It's a message to wake up from our sodden slumber and refuse to capitulate.
  • David Kelley is out of control - why doesn't he just run for office and leave the scripts to unbiased writers !!

This year's episodes have increasingly turned into a "Bush Bash" and always include constant slams on conservatives. This show is wonderful when it leaves politics out of it. This episode was blatantly ridiculous, in that the political grandstanding didn't even make sense within the story line. If this habit continues, I'll have to tune out.
  • Too much political grandstanding…David Kelly is out of control. Don’t get me wrong, I love this show, and I often overlook the political slant…but this episode was way over the top, simply because the topics are so out dated.

Boston Legal is GREAT! And the cast could not be better…but there are times I get sick of the blatant political messages of the show. David E. Kelly seems more interested in getting his political ideology across rather than getting a great story into our homes. I would love to see this show, without the politics…just good story lines. Too often, like in this episode, the politics seem forced, and out of place. When the politics are part of the underlying story, I can handle it, but in this case, it was just too blatant.
  • Another great Alan speech, a moving plot for Paul and poor, poor Denise.

Ah, poor Denise. She tries to get over her heartbreak and ends up getting majorly humilitated. I loved her reactions when she found out the guy wasn't a cop and then that great coutroom speech first with the speech which leads to a harsher sentence and then that kiss. I'm halfway hoping he returns sometime for more fun.

It was great to see Melissa back as it's fun to see Alan handled by someone else for a change. I get a little nervous when Kelly does these huge ultra-liberal speeches but the judge was funny as hell and hope he comes back soon. And anything that gets Melissa and Alan together is good. Once again, I"m struck by how Alan tries to warn ladies before they get involved with him (given his romantic history, that's more than fair).

The Paul plot was moving as he once again faces his failures as a father and how to deal with his daughter now. The scene with her and Brad was good and I look forward to how Paul tries to move on after this.

So overall a good episode with light-hearted moments balancing the drama. Just hope we get more of Denny in court soon.
