This was another great episode, if significantly darker in many ways. Shirley requests Alan's help in trying a difficult case involving police abuse. I thought the case brought up interesting questions- I certainly know in this country the police have more powers behind the scenes- its a bit like Don't ask, Don't tell.
Chelina, a very pretty Kerry Washington, enlists Denny's help against his "son", Donny, who reappears. The case itself wasn't top notch, but the drama between father and son was very nicely handled. I thought they dealt with that very subtley, which was nice.
Meanwhile, Bernie returns and befriends Catherine- I wasn't sure whether I believed Alan or not when he claims Bernie is evil- either way, James Spader is such a compelling actor. It seemed to signal further trouble for him and Tara, however. The balcony scene at the end was good, as usual, seeing the tired personal lives of our two main protaginists.
Overall, another very decent episode to a brilliant opening Season.
