Alan begins the episode with a closing argument full of "gibberish". He goes to the doctor and has an MRI done, finding everything's normal with his brain. He had a "Word Salad", an event where someone spouts off random words that make no sense and have no relevance to the topic at hand. Denny suggests to "empty his bucket", implying that work has filled his head up too much and takes him to a paradise resort spa. The two are pampered with milk baths, facials and massages from gorgeous women. Alan then spots one of the most attractive women both he and I have ever seen (a brunette named Jessica, played wonderfully by Aja Evans) at the spa, only to blow it with her by suffering another "word salad". Denny and Alan get into a dispute that leads to Denny realizing Alan has been sympathizing, not empathizing with Denny's Alzheimer's. Denny goes as far as saying, "I won't be someone's charity project. And if that's what this friendship is, I don't want it anymore". The two patch things up in the end, enjoying their usual cigar and brandy on Denny's balcony, wearing robes over their suits to end the show.
The first of the two cases dealt with a college buddy of Brad's who founded a $500 million video game company that produced a video game so addictive, a 15-year old boy died while playing. The boy had a heart attack due to exhaustion of playing the game for two straight days without food or rest. The single mom was not around and fell asleep after working the night shift of her second job, only to wake up, finding her son dead. The CEO doesn't want the case to go public before the sequel of the game is released, preferring to settle it in summary judgment. Even with a study and a doctor's testimony that the company made the game "addictive" by raising adrenaline rushes to the brain, Brad gives a closing statement that wins the case, claiming, "I know a crystal meth addict, and she'd give anything to be addicted to a videogame instead of crystal meth. This lawsuit is an insult to people suffering from true addictions." He of course is referring to Paul's daughter Rachel, who is currently in rehab for her addiction to the drugs.
The second is Denise's, a polygamy case involving two women happily married to the same man, living next door to one another, sharing children and completely satisfied with the relationship, both emotionally and physically. The man is arrested, taken from in between the two houses, and charged with breaking the law of monogamous marriage. Despite Denise's best efforts, and a judge who seems to agree, the jury finds the man guilty. At the end, Denise talks with the assistant district attorney who tried the case, and whom she somewhat shared a moment with during trial, and gets him to give the man probation if they dissolve the matrimonies, living the same lives without the legal agreement of marriage. The A.D.A. then asks Denise out for dinner, to which she eagerly agrees to, smiling from ear to ear.
