When the show started Corey was in 6th grade.
In season 2 he was in 7th, beginning Junior High at a 6 year High School. Somehow, he only spends 4 years there, and graduates at 18?? Now, considering this, at the same time this absurd aging is happening, Eric ages properly. So, Corey goes from 4 years younger to 2 years younger than Eric. The only time Eric's aging doesn't work is in College, which he attends for 3 years as opposed to 4 and graduates despite his increasing idiocy...

I don't understand. Maybe the show wouldn't have been so bad in the final 2 seasons if they aged them properly and kept them in High School...

This has been debated for probably the past 5+ years. It's an old query with no real answer. I guess we just have to say "it's tv" and move on.

If the DVD of season 4 ever comes (COUGH), he briefly mentioned that he may be explaining why, so hopefully we'll eventually find out. I think it's because a lot of the main characters were a lot older then there parts and they aged them so it wouldn't look as strange - just my opinion though.

Yes, I had wondered about that as well. I'm thinking they wanted to show all of the stages of school. In the 1st season he is in Elementary School, in the 2-5 season he is in Jr. High/High School, and in the 6-7th seasons he is in College.

They Skipped a few grades because they wanted the kids to mature/grow up a bit, so they would have more story lines.

    Season 1: Grade 6
    Season 2: Grade 7
    Season 3: Grade 10
    Season 4: Grade 11
    Season 5: Grade 12
    Season 6: College year 1
    Season 7: College year 2

    Season 7: College year 2

    Actually, it was...

    Season 1: Grade 6
    Season 2: Grade 7
    Season 3: Grade 9
    Season 4: Grade 11
    Season 5: Grade 12
    Season 6: College year 1
    Season 7: College year 2

During Season 3 Shawn mentioned being at the school for only two years.

I could be wrong, but I think they skipped grades so that they could cover more storylines. For the most part, people do the exact same things in 8th and 9th grade that they do in 7th. If they covered all three years, then the storylines would have been pretty repetitive. They would just have went to parties for 3 years and pretty much did everything they did in Season 2. By skipping grades, then they were able to combine the important/notable things that people do in high school without being overly repetitive.

Also, the show is "Boy Meets World" not "Boy Gets Educated". The main point of the show was Cory's reaction to the world around him, and not his plight through school. They took certain liberties with the show to make Cory's life more interesting than it probably would have been if he was a real person.

But again, I could be wrong.

I think in the Season 3 DVD...in the little part that Michael Jacobs writes...he admits that he aged the characters an extra year....And I'm guessing it was to cover more storylines, like someone already said.

    Actually it's pretty simple.
    Season 1: 6th grade.
Season 2: 7-8th grade. Season 3: 9-10th grade. Cory fell in love with Topanga threw out the years, not over the summer. And Eric was in 10th grade when Cory got in high school and graduated in the end of this season, and he said a couple of times he was three years older then Cory in the last episode of the season. Both of them went on a cross country trip over the summer, and came on the first episode of season 4.
Season 4: 11th grade. Cory said on the third episode he was in 11th grade. While Eric stayed one extra year at home trying to get in to college.
Season 5: 12th grade. Cory, Shawn and Topanga graduated hig school. Eric finally went of to college and lived with Shawn and Jack.
Season 6 and 7: College years.
I think that's what happen. Hope I'm right.
