Cory is disappointed when he's put on second string...with Minkus! Unlike Minkus, who is excited about his accomplishment, Cory is very disheartened and decides to quit. Things get even worse when he starts to feel like second string in his own family.
After school, Cory arrives home to an empty house. He watches TV waiting for somebody to come home but nobody shows up. He goes out back to talk to Mr. Feeny about how he feels insignificant. Mr. Feeny convinces him otherwise and Cory realizes that sulking accomplishes nothing. When Mr. Feeny tells him that his whole family traveled to his basketball game he begs Mr. Feeny to give him a ride to the game. He shows up in time, and when a couple first-stringers foul out, he gets to play. He seizes the opportunity and scores a few points.
Cory's family is proud and they make sure to tell that his playing time doesn't matter to them. The only thing that matters is that he tries his hardest.
