Cory is cast as the lead in the school play but he quits when finds out he has to wear tights.
Minkus replaces Cory as Hamlet to the chagrin of everybody. He terribly over-acts and refuses to wear his glasses, causing him to become clumsy. Cory offers to return and take the lead but Mr. Feeny declines, telling Cory that as bad as Minkus is, it wouldn't be right to give the role back to him. Cory takes a smaller role as a spear carrier, after Mr. Feeny tells him: "There are no small parts; only small actors".
Meanwhile, Alan has to cancel their trip to the Jersey shore due to a pay cute. He schedules a meeting with his district manager hoping to repeal the rollback, to no avail. When he tells his family that nothing changed, Cory worries that Alan quit. However, Alan tells Cory that, even though he felt like quitting, he didn't because he couldn't let the family down. This helps Cory to realize his own selfishness.
