When Cory and Shawn's video report, on the lunch lady and red, square jell-o, bombs, Mr. Williams has them try again. When they can't think of anything creative, they decide to follow Joey in search of controversy. They're in luck, when they find that Janitor Bud has been skipping out of work two hours early to gamble at the race track.
Excited, the boys air their exclusive report on public access television. Their good mood turns sour when Mr. Feeny informs them that, in light of the new information, he must fire Janitor Bud, who is two months away from retirement.
Now, everyone in the school is angry at them; and to make matters worse, Bud puts the "Janitor's Curse" on them. Mr. Williams feels bad for the boys; and, after talking with Mr. Turner, he realizes he shouldn't have pushed them so hard to find a hot story. "This isn't the news business, they're just kids."
Mr. Williams talks to Cory and the two approach Mr. Feeny about re-hiring Janitor Bud. Unfortunately, because the report was aired to the whole school board, there is no way to go back on his decision. The two are about to give up, when they discover that Mr. Feeny has hired Janitor Bud as his secretary for his remaining two months.
Meanwhile, Eric registers no brain activity during a sleep experiment.
