"My father? Interested in motherless babes? According to him, they're nothing but trouble--for years and years," says Eleanor to Lady Cora, with a mischievous glance at her father. After a pause, Robert replies, deadpan: "Decades."
Robert: Playing with lives, Eleanor? It's never an easy game. It's never a game.
(upon arriving at the Thrift to assist Eleanor.)
Robert: Please, just tell me this is some jolly jape. I presume within a minute you will wheel out the proper instruments, and you will be shouting 'April Fool'!
When first aired in the US, on the PBS anthology series Masterpiece Theatre, this was not shown until after episodes 5 and 4 had already aired. It was in fact delayed to the start of the "second series" (referred to by WGBH Boston as "Bramwell II"), on 27 October 1996.
Series regular Joe Marsham (Kevin McMonagle) does not appear in this episode.
