Bread was the #1 comedy show of its time in the U.K. and was watched by 21 million people. It was based around a Liverpudlian family, the Boswells, and showed them in all sorts of situations trying to earn money for the week, hence the title "bread".moreless

  • Underrated BBC sitcom, one of the most consistent series of the 1980s

    9.0
    "Superb"
This sitcom, focused around the Liverpudlian Boswell family, is one of the BBC's greatest ever achievements, with 20 million people watching at one point - and now it has all but faded into obscurity. Maybe some think it hasn't aged well, or perhaps the BBC don't think it deserves the repeats Only Fools and Horses does, but it's undeniable that the sitcom was comic genius from start to finish, from Aveline's modelling antics, to Grandad's dinner requests to Billy's failing marriage. I'm glad some of the series is available on DVD -- I don't know how I'd watch it otherwise!

    Highly recommended for Britcom fans.moreless
