A Breaking Bad Community
AMC (ended 2013)
In advance of this week's Rian Johnson directed "Ozymandius" we really need to discuss the director's inspired work on the show.

1) "Fly" (Tim Surette's Review) In which Walt and Jesse spend some quality time together...

Season 3's "Fly" was the show's second "bottle episode," constructed after the first (season 2's "Four Days Out") actually resulted in cost overruns. Keeping Walt & Jesse contained to the amazing Super Lab set was a brilliant decision and Johnson used nearly every camera angle possible as Walt and Jesse chased down a rogue fly and discussed the painful past...

2) "Fifty-One" (Tim Surette's review) In which Skyler went for a swim...

Season 5's "Fifty-One" marked Walter's birthday, with a year having passed in the plot of the show. Johnson again expanded on the show's usual visuals with a controversial mini-music video to introduce some new vehicles for the Whites...

Then, in the episodes final moments, Johnson used the White's backyard pool to capture the toll Walt's action had taken on Skyler...

3) "Ozymandius" In which we will surely see the result of Todd's firearms training...

While it's an unpopular opinion, I think "Fly" is easily a top five Breaking Bad episode. Keeping in mind the potential for "Ozymandius," what's your pick?

Three brilliant episodes, but Ozymandias is one of the best hours of television ever.

"Fly" was awesome, mostly because of the way it was directed.

So if we talk about Rian Johnson here, I go with "Fly". It started out to be fun, went intense and left me with quite a sadness. The whole series went on the same rollercoaster ride, so this episode pretty much sums up what the series is for me.

When speaking in terms of direction, I think "Fly" is a definite contender for the #1 Johnson episode. But I can't not choose "Ozymandias" if only for the sheer brute force of story. It left me dead inside. Then gave me life.

It had been a long time since an hour of TV had me on the edge of my seat, crying and shouting at the TV all at the same time... Ozymandias blew my mind and broke my heart scene after scene. I'll probably die when I watch the finale...

As much as I like Fly, I've just seen Ozymandias, and it's one of the best episodes ever.

Hah, yeah I posted this before the episode aired, assuming that "Ozymandius" would be great. But I had no idea just how amazing it would turn out to be, not to mention its greater importance to the show.

I don't know which one is the best, but "Fly" is certainly the worst. It's the only episode of Breaking Bad that I didn't like.
