  • There we go!

Well, Breakout Kings sure responded to my criticism. On Sunday the show delivered its best episode yet, an action-packed hour of TV that saw us learn even more about these characters. I have said the show is a slightly amended Criminal Minds, but one thing they are making sure they do is quickly build dynamic, three dimensional characters and every week we learn a little bit more about these individuals. Disappointed by the lack of explanation as to why Lloyd likes Julianne now as opposed to Philly, but that's a small matter, and those two have better chemistry anyway with them both being smart. Some Abby and McGee comparisons from NCIS can be made.

They introduced a fun anti-government family tonight and I was disappointed that this is was a one-off storyline. If they ever decided to have a recurring plot this might be a good one to do it with.

Powerful episode, a lot of action, some nice funny lines thrown in. This is what Breakout Kings needs to do week after week to really "breakout" and become a hit.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • When Lloyd speaks to his father on the phone, you can hear that the voice of his father is computized. indicating Lloyd's father may be disabled and use a computer to speak.

    • Woodlands Park in Markham, Ontario was used as the exterior of the Beaumont Bunker. For safety, camera angles were cheated slightly so that the bunker could actually be away from the canopy of trees and in a wide open space when it was exploded. The explosion was real. The Special Effects Department used black powder bombs that into flame balls just after "detonating cords" had been released to lift dirt and debris off the ground thereby creating the illusion that the pressure of the explosion had lifted the top layer of earth.

    • The bomb Charlie had to dismantle was built within an old, steel ammunition case. The flashing light was run by remote control from the back of the set. The interior of the bomb was loaded with dry ice so that when Charlie froze it with "liquid nitrogen" (a water-based mist), it would actually appear to be freezing.

  • QUOTES (0)

  • NOTES (4)

    • Air and propane cannons packed with dust, debris, breakaway glass and balsa wood silvers were used to create the explosions in the courthouse washroom and the post office. Special Effects Coordinator Jim McGillivary, with 20 plus years experience, ensured that the flames would bloom beyond the windows, resulting in very little evidence of the flames in the location.
