Show Summary

The tranquil Abbey of Redwall basks in The Summer of The Late Rose. It is a haven of harmony and peace that is abruptly threatened by a mercilessly savage bilge-rat Cluny the Scourge intent on destroying it. He is a demented rat haunted by nightmare visions of a mystical mouse warrior, and his destiny - or some mystical force - has lead him and his verminous horde to Redwall. Ill equipped to defend themselves the villagers of Redwall find in their midst a young orphin mouse who will grow into a great warrior and leader. His name is Matthias. This hopeless dreamer's own hero is Martin the Warrior, a legendary mouse who once upon a time defended the same abbey. Matthias longs to emulate the heroism and valour of Martin the Warrior whose exploits are well-known to all through the cherished and detailed tapestry that hangs in the Grand Hall of Redwall. Matthias is about to get his chance. Redwall is the story of how Matthias finds himself and his destiny in the long siege mounted by Cluny. Combining the strength of truly remarkable friends, the affection of a kitchen mousemaid, the mystical connection with Martin the Warrior, and his own resources of intelligence and raw courage, Matthias pursues his quest to save Redwall Abbey. Characters Matthias- As we begin our story, we are introduced to a wide eyed, daydreaming novice named Matthias. Matthias is an orphin, having lost his parents When Cluny the Scourge raided his village. He now lives within the protective walls of Redwall Abbey where he does his best to follow in Father Abbott's footsteps. But he longs for more. As he gazes daily at the grand tapestry detailing the legendary exploits of Martin the Warrior he dreams of one day embodying the qualities of his hero. Already, he sees himself bowing to the cheering crowd after wrestling the enemy to the ground. Goodness and honesty must prevail but violence should always be a last resort. But be careful what you wish for! For one very bad day, Redwall Abbey is attacked by the evil Cluny and the life all Redwallers knew is shattered almost beyond repair. It is up to the courageous and the few to defend the only home they have, facing one perilous adventure after another. Matthias must meet his destiny and realize that bravery comes from within not from any weapon. Cornflower- Cornflower is no ordinary kitchen mouse and unlike Matthias in many ways. She's no dreamer or romantic, she tackles the world as she finds it - directly and without complaint. Her primary duty is tending to and caring for members of Redwall Abbey. Whether the air is full of seet smells and buzzing bees or acrid smoke and showers of screaming arrows Cornflower shows great courage and resourcefulness as she braves these dangers. Cornflower also harbors a secret love for Matthias. She sees past the awkward manners and seeming flightiness of the young orphin to the kindness and bravery of the soon-to-be-warrior. She will be a worthy partner for Matthias as together they experience more hardships and more happiness than either of them could have imagined. Abbott Mortimer- Known as Father Abbot, Mortimer is the dignified, twinkle-eyed old mouse of Redwall Abbey, helplessly smothering his laughter in a deep shadow behind Matthias. His tolerant amusement of Matthias's antics as genuine as his love for all the creatures in his care, the same love that caused him to take in the tiny orphin and raise him as if he had been his own son. If he is frustrated by Matthias it is because he wants him to grow into responsibility. His vocation is the happiness and contentment of al and obedience to the Order's solem vow never to harm another living creature. It is a vow that is to be sorely tested as our story unfolds. Matthias's creed is full of the spirit of Abbott Mortimer - to be peaceful but to be ready, to courageously defend that which you believe in until belief is no longer enough. Then, and only then, do you resist by any means that come to hand. Constance- If there's something heavy to haul or a principle to be upheld or a silence to be ordered or a rat to be terrified - one bark from Constance and the job is done. Constance is a tower of streangh at Redwall Abbey and when faced with danger or fools she is fierce and quick to anger and she is also - always - right. But she is no bully - she just doesn't suffer fools or cowards gladly. And she doesn't suffer rats at all. She is one Redwaller they respect to the point of fear. Even Cluny the Scourge will retreat before those dark, sharp eyes, razor teet, mighty claws and that deep enormous grow. As Matthias's unswerving friend, as solid defender of the abbey walls and as hard-nosed practical advisor, Constance the Badger never wavers, never doubts, never draws back from trouble, fever forgives treachery - and never fails in friendship. Basil Stag Hare- A delightful, insanely brave, huge and lanky aristocrat. His dignity is only slightly marred by his wildly uncontrollable appetite. Courtly, formidable and principled, he is an expert scout, wilderness guide and backleg fighter. He is a lone woodland samurai, an old school defender of the innocent, a hare injudiciously packed to the limit with the right stuff. And best of all, he hates RATS. He becomes Matthias's fighting ally, strategist, conspirator and friend. Cluny the Scourge- Cluny the Scourge is a toughn mangey, ragged-eared brute of a bilgerat, terrible to beyhold. No one knows where he came from. But wherever he is from, wherever he goes, trouble is sure to follow. He plunders the land at the head of his evil army of vermin. He rules by terror, acts of his every evil whim, is unpredictably savage even to his own men and fears no living creature, for he terrifies all who see him. Even his henchrats faun and cringe under his perilous temper and live in terror of his next command. This merciless raider squints at the world through his one, beady eye (The other was gouged out by the teeth of a freshwater pike and fester beneath a greasy patch. The pike did not survive). Cluny is hell-bent on pillaging Redwall Abey and enslaving every living thing within it. But there is something else, something which haunts him every night and every waking moment. He is recurrent nightmares of a mouse. A mouse in armour. A mouse with a great sword. These mystical visitations are of Martin the Warrior...or I Am That Is - Matthias. They drive him on. They drive him mad. Season 2 Mattimeo- Son of the now-married Matthias and Cornflower, Mattimeo is spoils by just about every woodlander within the abbey walls. We learn early that he is the ringleader to the young creatures of the abbey and, at times, a bad influence on them all - although he is fond of his peers, particulary young Tess. Mattimeo feels encumbered simply by being the son of Matthias, warrior of Redwall - everybeast expects him to live up to the name that his father has earned. When he and his companions are held captive by Slagar the Cruel, Mattimeo's natural leadership abilities finally come to the surface - he keeps the others calm and their hopes high. In the toughest of situations he realises he can bring a smile to his friends' faces. It is here that we begin to se a change from old Mattimeo. With his pas chained together he resolves that if he ever gets free and returns to Redwall he will always be a good son. Tess Churchmouse- Tess is a beautiful young mouse from Redwall Abbey. She is also among the Redwallers taken from the abbey by Slager and forced to join his horrible slave trail. Although terrified herself, she soon gains streingh from offering comfort to the younger captives. Separated from their parents, both Tess and Mattimeo work together and calm. She is a good Companion to Mattimeo, reminding him that the weak ones amonst them look to him for defense. She is not at all surprised to see Mattimeo change from the wayward mischief-mouse to the young warrior he is capable of being. Their experiences and adventures they share bring them closer together and what began as a friendship soon blossoms into everlasting love. Orlando the Axe- Orlando is a devoded woodland father. He and his daughter, Auma, are the only surviving members of their family following a vicious attack by Slagar the Cruel. But misfortune visits again as Slagar claims Auma as one of his slaves. Orlando's mission is clear. He seeks revenge. His vengeful gourny intertwines with that of Matthias. Could it be fate that's brought them together? They become unified in the quest to rescue their young and punish the evil Slager. The Redwallers gain a new and just hero in Orlando. Throughout their journeys Orlando helps to protect the Redwallers with his strengh and the use of his axe. Auma- Auma is the daughter of Orlando the Axe. Her mother died when Auma was a young girl. While she is raised by her father, Auma had been looking after him untill she was taken from him by Slagar the Cruel. She's fiesty, independant, and very wise for her young age. Whithin the group of slaves, she has taken on the "mother" role by taking care of the little ones. Slagar the Cruel- Son of Sela the Vixen, Slagar is a slave trading fox whose real name is Chickenhound. Slager lives to seek revenge on the woodlanders at Redwall who, he claims, speared his mother and left her to dye in the ditch. They then held him "prisoner" in the infirmary at the abbey from which he easily escaped. Shortly after his escape he was attacked by Asmodeus the snake, an attack that left a hideous scar on his face. Slagar scoured the streets, gathering a rabble of treacherous stoats, ferrets, and weasels to work in his slaving band. They are an unsavoury crew of thieves, tramps, and beggars, untrustworty liars dressed in filthy rags stuffed with an asortment of rusty daggers, spikes, spears, axes, and knives. Those who step out of line feel the piercing bite of Slagar's cane or the sharp end of his sword - he'll threaten their very live without a second thought. Even his laughter sends shivers through every creature. General Ironbeak- Ironbeak the raven is the leader of the crows, rooks, and magpies. They all flew with Ironbeak from the north where he was the most feared fighter in the land. Now they are keen to settle in this warm, lush land of easy foraging - Redwall Abbey is Ironbeaks targeted dwelling. Ironbeak's army of birds came up against Cornflower and the Redwallers - and drove them into the Cavern Hole by attacking the abbey from the roofs. Ironbeak's assault is successful, he takes several hostages and rules, for a time, with an iron claw. That is until Redwall's newest ally, Stryk Redkite, takes on Ironbeak in a spectacular mid-air battle that sends the once-powerful raven plummeting to the ground. Season 3: Martin the Warrior: A Tale of Redwall Abbey recorder, John Churchmouse, tells the story of how Abbey hero, Martin the Warrior, came from the South and his adventures from the south.moreless

  • I remember this show!!! this is what got me started on the books! it is a great show.

    9.9
I remember watching this a while ago! i remember watching it everyday after i got back from my friend's house. It was a good idea, turning Brian Jaques books into a tv seiries, because he has almost 15 of them(in this particular seiries), last time i checked. I loved it, especially Basil. (now that i'm reading the books, alot of the time one of my favorite charectors is one of the hares). It was pretty close too, because they had more time to put in all the same details. It even has some things that aren't in the books. They continued on with a second and third season featuring Mattimeo and Martin the Warrior. I really miss itmoreless
  • Great literary animated series

    10
I am a literary woman, like I love films, theatrical shorts and TV series that are based on books, and I was shocked, surprised and flabbergasted by the negativity I heard on the Internet; I've watched this show, and frankly I find it AWESOME! and just to let know, watching this series is what got to read the Redwall series. I love the original characters they've put on the show: Wild Ivy,the spunky, gypsy knife-thrower from a circus;and Farlo and his wife Glendel (almost sounds like 'Gwendel' to me),the two dormice who sell spices. The series also has an excellent musical score and a top-notch voice casting including :

Tyrone Savage ... Matthias the Warrior,

Chris Wiggins ... Abbot Mortimer, Alison Pill... Cornflower, Richard Binsley ... Basil Stag Hare,

Janet Wright...Constance the Badger, Susan Roman ... Jess the Squrriel, Wayne Robson ... Methuselah, Graham Haley... Foremole,

Tracey Moore ...Warbeak Sparra, Diego Matamoros ...Cluny The Scourge, François Klanfer... Shadow (there is something macabre 'about him), Julie Lemieux ... Sela the Vixen, Jonathan Wilson ...Chickenhound,

Richard Denison ... Captain Snow the Owl,

    David Hemblen... Asmodeus,and

Ben Campbell ... Voice of Martin the Warrior,King Bull Sparramoreless
  • It is a very interesting show, and I think it should be brought back it was really easy to watch since they are animals and children could really tune in. It wasn\'t that violent either which is good but they showed battles.moreless

I think this show is decent definetley. It was cool how all the enemies were the bad animals we see today and the good ones are nice furry animals everyone loves. Also Michael Seater from Life With Derek is in this show, I love that when I can pick out his name. Season finale was awesome when Martin finally kissed his girl, and led everyone to victory! Brian Jacques is kind of amazing, they should bring this back or make a movie, I would totally go in a second! If they do make a movie they should make like a new war between the rats.moreless
  • This show is about the adventures of differant mice who's stories are centered around an abby called redwall.

    9.0
This show has alot of good aspects to it. It teaches children about the middle ages in a way that they can understand, and it is just fun to watch. I like the values it teaches, and that there is always some sort of fun adventure in every episode. It also helps encourage children to read because after seeing the show, it inspires them to read the books, I know thats what it has done for me.moreless
  • Redwall has a very unique fantasy style theme that never fails it's own charm. In fact, this is one of the most memorable fantasy stories ever made.

    10
Redwall is based on the book by the author of Castaways of the Flying Dutchman and The Long Patrol named Brian Jacques. The TV show of Redwall was created to remind youngsters and those who read the series to understand what actually happened in the book with more detail. The main character in the original series is Matthias, a young mouse monk that learns about the story about Martin the Warrior and starts a quest along with his friends that come up later in the series such as Basil Stag Hare. Then came Mattimeo, the 2nd season of the Redwall TV series and the 2nd in the Redwall fantasy saga. This time the main character is Mattimeo, who is the son of Matthias that gets captured along with other young ones and Matthias along with his buddies in the first story to find their loved ones and return safe to Redwall. Then the 3rd and final season of the Redwall TV series is actually a prelude (like The Lord of the Rings or Capcom's Devil May Cry game series) to the original Redwall story. This time the story aims at Martin, who is the son of Luke the Warrior (if you can remember from the books), and tells the story about how Redwall became the place where all adventurers and travellers alike can eat and take shelter.

The books are wonderful stories, and I should say the same with the TV series since it follows the book's storyline. The TV series and books have a Final Fantasy style theme to it since the story is about love, hatred, war, and sadness. Overall, if you are the person who is interested in fantasy stories of anykind with a medeival style theme to it, then Redwall would be the show for you. But if you are interested in something with a bit of action and drama added to it, Redwall would also be the one to look at. Overall I give it a 10/10 because it happens to be my favorite fantasy story ever read.moreless
