Show Summary

Buffalo Girls is the TV movie based on the novel written by Larry McMurtry about Calamity Jane. Martha Jane Cannary Burke, also known as Calamity Jane, is a legendary frontierswoman and scout known for being an acquaintance of Wild Bill Hickok and fighting with Native Americans. Born in the 1850's in Missouri, she took over as head of her family when her father passed in 1867, bring them to Wyoming, where she worked many jobs to support her large family. When she was involved in the conflicts with Native American Indians, and earned the name Calamity Jane, the heroine of the plains. In 1990 American author Larry McMurty wrote his novel Buffalo Girls, with prose style mixed with letters from Jane to her daughter. In 1995 CBS adapted his story into a made-for-TV movie starring Anjelica Huston as Calamity Jane, also featuring Sam Elliott as Wild Bill Hickock, Reba McEntire as Annie Oakley, and Peter Coyote as Buffalo Bill Cody.
