I've noticed that there is a lack of Buffy S8 thread and I thought that a spoiler thread plus a review of each issue of Buffy Season 8 would be appropriate. Maybe the editor could pin this.

    Thoughts on Issue 9

So we got to see Twilight in person? Glad I wasn't the only one who assumed it was an organisation compared to a being as such. Those military douches really can't stand Buffy. I have to admit she did greatly annoy me here. Buffy has every right to be annoyed at Giles for him not being truthful with her but she came across as a spoiled bitca with the way she expressed it. Why is it so easy for her to forgive Angel/Spike who've done worse and yet she still holds Faith in comtempt? Get over it already. Yes Faith screwed you over but she's making amends and if Angel/Spike can be forgiven many times over, then isn't Faith just as deserving? The fight with Faith and Gigi was great. I loved that simple kick and Gigi went flying into the greenhouse. How cool would that have looked onscreen? Gigi really did turn into quite the cow after learning Faith duped her. Faith clearly doesn't derive pleasure from slaughter anymore. Having accidently kill Gigi you could see the remorse in her eyes. I love the idea of her and Giles teaming up to try and rehabilitate some wayward slayers. Excellent idea and here's hoping we don't have to wait several issues to see this. Roden's death was beyond cool. I sometimes forget how devious Giles can be when pushed. This was an excellent reminder.

Proper review will be up on Sunday.

Well, first, I got your PM that you had made this thread. Thanks for that. However, it's generally best to send the PM and then make the thread.

Case in point, I think this needs a little discussion. See, we already had something set up for this. Every time a new issue comes out there is a thread made to discuss that issue, just like we used to do for the episodes. There was some talk when the comic series first started about making a more general thread about it, but the concensus was that we already had one (the "Possible Continuations of the Buffyverse" thread, pinned above) and that general discussion should go there.

So, as it stands, here are the options I see:

    1. We let this new thread stand for general discussion, with two sub-options.
      1. We pin the new thread (might be too many pinned threads already though)
      2. We let the new thread rise and fall as it will.
    2. We use the existing system of issue/episode threads and the "Possible Continuations" thread with the following options.
      1. We keep the general thread as-is
      2. We rename the thread to better suit its new purpose
      3. We replace the old thread with this or some other thread
      4. We allow resurrection of old episode threads (maybe we could keep a linked index in the general thread) so that people can comment on any issue they want within the thread already established for that episode.
    3. Something completely different.
    So, what does everyone think?

How about a general thread to discuss all things S8 and compare/contrast different arcs. Personally I like S8. Okay so The Long Way Home and The Chain took a while to get going but No Future For You is like some of the best episodes on the show. I'm looking forward to seeing how this Twilight arc pans out and I'm enjoying Xander having a bigger role.

The only two hiccups with this season is the swearing and dawn being a giant. The former because I wish the writers would either use the swear word or an alternative like frak instead of asterixing it and Dawn being a giant seems too distracting. It's taking her out of the central plot when she should have something of an active role.

I completely agree. This issue was excellent. I'm sad though that we probably won't see Faith for a while. I also hate that Buffy finds it so easy to forgive Angel and Spike yet doesn't even consider forgiving Faith. I think Faith's tried really hard to make amends but Buffy constantly rejecting any type of gesture Faith makes at a reconciliation just makes it harder for Faith to be a better person. I hate how Buffy always turns against Faith. She really did come off as a self-righteous b*tch. I'm glad Giles sees potential in Faith. I also liked the starting with the Mayor. I can't help but think this was to raise some parallels between Wilkins and Giles. I'm glad Giles is becoming sort of a father figure for Faith. Buffy'll get over it eventually. She needs to realise that the world does not revolve around her.

I think we should have one pinned thread, like this one, to discuss Season 8 as a whole. Like an official season 8 discussion thread where each issue is discussed as it comes out. I think having separate threads for each issue isn't a good idea because A)there aren't as many people who will discuss it and B) the thread will eventually die out coz there is a lot of times between issues, which will therefore cause some people to create new threads discussing issues that were discussed before. Does that make sense?

Yeah, Buffy needs a good slap in the face, and one that will actually hurt her. I think she holds the biggest grudge on Faith, because she was basically like a sister to her, before she just completely screwed her over. But, still Angel and SPike and even Willow, who tried to kill her have done worse things.

And, I like the idea of Giles and Faith teaming up.

But, I wonder what this Twilight guy wants.

It also also explains the second cover with Giles and Faith as Peel and Steed. Brian K Vaughn has a good grasp on British culture. I loved the Doctor Who cameo in Issue 6 as well.

    I got a question....

Who kissed Buffy in season 8?????

I've read the letter in issue 8 and the guy just says a lot of readers might have missed it and it is revealed? Okay, that is just extremely vague, why can't he just give the answer?

So, does anyone know who did and where and what the hint is?

Personally I think it is Willow because she mentioned something Buffy heard in her dream.

It was Satsu, one of the new slayers. She's in love with Buffy. This was reference because earlier on in "Long Way Home" Buffy said she liked Satsu's cinnamon lip gloss, and then when Buffy woke up, she yelled "Cinnamon Buns!" so it is thought to have been Satsu.

I just browsed through the pages but couldn't find any hint on Satsu. Cinnamon isn't even mentioned. What issue, what page, and what scene is it where she says that exact dialogue? I do have the part where she yells out Cinnamon Buns, but that's as far as it goes....

Sorry, before Buffy falls asleep there is nothing to be found that she likes Cinnamon. In issue 4 she borrows the lipgloss from Satsu and only then do we get the second hint when she says:"Cinnamon.."

Firstly I think a pinned season 8 discussion thread would suffice to encompass each issue's discussion and general discussions.

Onto issue 9. What a great end to the arc! The fighting in this issue was amazing i really felt i could be watching it play out on a screen. Absolutely love the Giles/Faith pairing, such a good duo who can relate well to each other. This twilight guy looks interesting, dunno about his whole outift and whatnot. The story is really relfecting the medium it is on, the Twilight guy looks straight out of a batman or spiderman comic! Love the Fray reference in there as well.

I dont really agree with your comments on buffy and her actions/response this arc. Buffy and Faith are never going to be best buds or kiss and make up, not after what theyve been through. And the difference between Faith and Angel and Spike is when they did all those bad things to buffy and her friends they were soulless and it wasnt off there own free will, thus the forgiveness. Faith purposefully chose to betray the scoobies, help bring about an apocalypse, sleep with riley in buffys body, try to kill angel and all the other decisions. Sure Buffy and Faith can reach a level where they are fighting on the same side but its unrealistic to think they can reach anything above that.

Sorry to double post but also... The next arc to start at issue 12 after two standalone's by joss, previously known as the 'Tokyo Arc' by Drew Goddard has been given a title and the first covers... Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8: #12 Wolves at the Gate Part One main cover by Jon Foster And the Variant by Georges Jeanty Blurb for Part One - Acclaimed television series writer, Drew Goddard (Buffy the Vampire Slayer; Alias; Lost), takes the reins on Season Eight with his four-issue arc titled "Wolves at the Gate." The gang (yep, Dawn too) travels to Tokyo where they duel vampires with unusual, yet strangely familiar, powers.

I don't know who exactly you're referring to but I disagree. Maybe with Angel I can understand why Buffy forgave him coz he really was soulless. But Spike had a soul didn't he when he did a lot of bad things. I may be getting timelines mixed up but wasn't he ensouled when he tried to rape Buffy and when he slept with Anya? Sure, it can be argued it's not as bad as murder, but Faith's first kill was by accident. She didn't intentionally kill Allan whatshisface. And then Buffy & Co coldly turned their backs on Faith, thus making her lose the only bit of stability she ever had in her life. Mayor Wilkins gave her that stability again and therefore she did what he wanted because she didn't want to lose a father figure. What I find is that Buffy NEVER attempts to understand it. She always goes by with she's feeling and rarely considers those around her...just look at the way she treats Xander most of the time. Or the way she was with Spike through Season 6. I know there's more to it but I think Buffy can't forgive Faith because she'll always see her as a rival rather than a friend. That's Buffy's problem, not Faith's. And the only reason she hasn't sought to work out this problem is coz Faith doesn't exactly have the same equipment as Angel and Spike to give Buffy what she needs (hopefully you won't misconstrue that last line)
