Cordy, Angel, Wesley, Drusilla and Darla.

When they moved from "Buffy" to "Angel", who made the transition the best?

    Hi Guys,

These characters all moved from "Buffy"over to "Angel", (and some of them went back and forth between both) my question is, which of these characters (or someone I haven't listed) made the most successful swap over between the shows and fitted into their new envirnoment the best?

I include Drusilla and Darla on the main list because many people have said that both these characters, Darla in particular, did their best work on "Angel" due to moreplot and character development etc. And let us not forget Spike and Andrew as well as they too made the change in later seasons or maybe you consider that Faith or somebody else did a better job?

Let me know what you think and why.

    LL.

Angel made the best transition as the quality of his character seemed to improve in every way.

The three main characters: Angel, Cordelia and Wesley.

IMO, they all turned into different, more evolved characters. Meanwhile, Darla and Dru were as same as in Buffy.

i thought spike really came into his own on angel, like he new who he was and what he was about, on buffy he was always unsettled.
i liked cordy better on buffy, shoot me if you must.
wesley was boss, probably my favorite character on angel

I sort of did too. I'm glad that Charisma Carpenter got to have a leading role on Angel but in some ways I missed the Sunnydale Cordelia.

As for choosing I think one has to pin down exactly what one means by "best" transition.

Certainly Angel, Cordelia, and Wesley were able to become more fuller characters by virtue of being given central roles in the spinoff. On the other hand I always thought that of all the characters that appeared on both shows Faith was the one who could switch back and forth between the two series with the least discontinuity. She just dropped into Season 1 of Angel from Season 4 of Buffy as the same person, imo. Three seasons later, she went the other way, from Angel into Buffy, once again as the same person. On the other hand, I always thought that Angel seemed a bit out of place when he came back for the last two episodes of Buffy. I was glad to see him, but with all that had happened separately on the two shows he just didn't seem to fit in. Going the other way, I loved seeing Willow in Angel S4 "Orpheus", but I didn't think she was too consistent with the "Wicca-who-wonta" character that she was at that moment on Buffy. After Season 1 of Angel it was hard to imagine Buffy coming back to Angel's world and I'm glad she didn't. And I'm also glad that Cordelia didn't come back to Sunnydale in the late seasons of the two shows. I think it would have been too weird.

i chose cordy, i think she did amazing moving over, like in the first half of the season she was still pretty much the same cordy and that was great and then she gets her visions and she has to kinda grow up and move on and i just think she did great

I chose Cordy too. Her character was a little different in the first season of Angel, but she was still very similar to her character on Buffy. And then her character really started to grow and develop.

I would say Wesley. Cordi just became a whole new character to me. I liked her a lot more on Buffy.

Angel - Was an OK character on BtVS, but kinda dull. Mostly just just sat around and moped. On AtS he developed a sense of humour and became a much more well-rounded character. He went from a "meh" character to my second-favourite character.
Welsey - Changed by far the most. He went from being a one-note, comic relief, intentionally annoying character in S3 of Buffy to a complex, morally ambiguous badass on S4 of Angel. Cordelia - I always loved her on Buffy, but she improved even more with her character development in the first 2 and a half seasons on Angel. However, she became "Saint Cordy" someway through S3 and became very boring. Then S4 was just a slap in the face to her character. So she went from a good character, to a great character, to a bad character.
Darla - Changed almost as much as Wesley. In S1 of Buffy she was pretty much a generic henchvamp of the Master's, but her character was massively fleshed out in S2 of Angel and became a very interesting and engaging character.
Drusilla - Was pretty much the same as on Buffy, and we loved her for it.
Faith - Same as above. Her two-parter in S1 were possibly her best episodes.
Buffy - Seemed to act as a complete bitca in Angel. The Bangel-fest was snoozeworthy and she was very annoying in "Sanctuary", I'm glad Angel yelled at her and every word he said was true.
Willow - Pretty fun, but, like Angel in End of Days/Chosen, quite OOC compared to her arc on the other show.

I haven't seen S5 so I can't really comment on Spike, Andrew or Harmony (Disharmony and In the Dark were pretty much in-keeping with their characters, no big change there).

So, I think Wesley was the most improved (mostly because he started with the bar set so low), followed by Angel and Darla. Cordy was great at first but then lost everything that made her character interesting.

It was tough for me to decide between Darla and Wesley because there was so much more character development for both of them when they moved shows and I thought that both actors did a great job.

Well I voted Cordelia because I think her character made the most drastic changes, but I agree with King that Angel's character really improved by a significant amount when he got his own show.

Oh, I totally agree with that as well. Angel was MUCH more bearable on his own show than being Sir Mope- A- Lot on Buffy. Much more focussed and watchable.

i vote for Darla, because i loved classic Cordy on Buffy, and even though i do love Angel the series, i actually feel Angel was awesome on Buffy more, with their romance and that Angelus storyline...glad he got that development....it's all good though!
Buffy is the best show ever created and Angel/Xena are the best ever spin-offs!!!

Darla for me got the most development and background, sad she died in the third season as she was really fleshed out and she was interesting on Buffy, but so glad she was brought back to the show after Buffy.

I agree on that. On Buffy, they were largely one-note characters (Although, Darla does become more important... in flashbacks, well after she is killed in Season 1).

On Angel, they were integral parts of the show and responsible for some of the most dramatic moments in the series.

I voted for Wesley. He became my favorite character in Buffy or Angel, as his progression was simply one of the best things I've seen on TV, IMO.

Yay to the all the Darla love!

I have always said how amazing she is but no-one ever listens. Angel wouldn't have been half as good without her!

I ALWAYS listen to you about Darla, you cheeky brat! *grin*. I also happen to agree with you. Angel stepped up several notches when her character arrived.
