My fellow Buffy fans, I need your help!
I have never been much of a TV viewer, and haven't watched that many shows in my life.
Some years ago I finally got around to catching a TV show. This show was called Charmed, and I ended up following it every week during the first season only. However, about six years went by, and suddenly I found myself with an urge to somehow follow an on-screen story.
Naturally my choice was to continue was I had already started, and it was about this time too, that the Charmed DVDs started to be released in Denmark (where I live). I got the first couple of seasons as presents from some friends, and I ended up buying the rest myself, as I don't like the idea of only having "half a collection".
I watched Charmed a couple of times, which I, at that point, still found entertaining, though I found the "quality" of the show was gradually and greatly declining during the last half of the series' span. Furthermore, I felt the show lacked many of the things I was looking for in a good story. For example: seriousness, decent reccuring characters to give the story some depth, intelligent dialogue, surprises, references to past events, complex characters (okay, they had one, but they screwed him up in the end), a story that actually followed the lore and "rules" of the show, guest stars that could act, and I could keep on going forever.
I wanted something else, something better, something I hadn't seen before, but it needed the supernatural touch. And one day I suddenly remembered that my ex-girlfriend was always watching Buffy and Angel (neither of which I at that time had ever watched, and wasn't interested in). So I decided to download the first season, just for a peek, and in two days I had finished watching it. I fell completely in love with it, like I couldn't think of anything else but Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And before two weeks had passed, I had spent all my money on all seven seasons, plus the first season of Angel. I seriously saved money on food, to afford buying those damn DVDs.
For many weeks to come, I would find myself every day getting up in the morning, go to work, get home, watch Buffy, and go to bed. Buffy had everything I was missing - it was almost perfect. When I finished Chosen, I was left hungry for more. Naturally I tried starting up Angel, but it wasn't what I wanted then. I got halfway through the first season of Angel, and then I went back to watch Buffy all over again instead.
When I finished Buffy the second time, I finally got around to Angel again, of course starting from the top. Angel was great too, and I loved the idea of the two storylines progressing at the same time. It took me a little while to warm up to Angel, but it grew on me and eventually got me almost as hooked as Buffy did. And after I was done with Angel, I of course watched Buffy once again.
After a while I started to complaint to some of my friends about not having anything to watch. Yes, those poor people had heard it all before, so they introduced me to a show about aliens called Roswell. I liked Roswell a lot, and still do, but unfortunately it was short lived. Although it was not nearly as good as Buffy or Angel, it was still, in my opinion, a lot better than Charmed.
Recently, the same of my friends thought that it was about time that I again found a new show to watch. Some years had passed, and I hadn't really watched any new shows. But I had, of course, watched Buffy and Angel again, this time simultaneously and being true to the Buffyverse Chronology. So they bought me the first season of Heroes. However it took me a while to get started, but once I got started, I was hooked once again. And of course, once I finished heroes, I had to watch Buffy again.
Now, Iv'e just finished Buffy again, and the thing is; I'm considering starting on Charmed now, just to have something else to watch. But to be honest, I really don't want to watch it. The more other shows I watch, the worse I think of Charmed (actually I think Charmed is one of the worst TV shows I have ever watched. Today I feel ashamed when people see that I own the DVDs, but I feel proud when they mention Buffy or Angel).
So help me out guys! I need another show (or a film series) to watch. Preferably a supernatural one of high quality. I have enjoyed a few other shows (like Rome), but I tend to fall for the "magic" category, and I'd love some suggestions from other fans of the Buffyverse.
