who do you think is better or cooler?
It is tough. i always thought angel in buffy was not cool...he was nowhere near as cool as when he got his own show...he really stepped up a notch.but looking at angel in flashbacks...he just seems like a drip!!
but spike has been consistent with coolness...good or bad...you just know he has the coolness factor!!!!
Spiiiiiiiiiike ! Spike is so... HOT, cool, beautiful... i've many adjective to explain exactly what i think but... there are in french ! ... i think spike is better than angel, because i don't know for you, but i can't stand angel : he is just not interesting ! i like wrote some new stories about buffy. in every situation, i can imagine what spike would think or say : for angel, it's just impossible !
so, yes, angel is the buffy's great love, but spike is cooler, he is just spike...

Angel. By far. I always found that Spike followed in Angels footsteps in one way or another (whether intentionally or not). angel becomes a vampire, spike becomes a vampire, angel gets a soul, spike gets a soul, angel loves buffy, spike loves buffy, angel fights the "good fight", spike fights the "good fight", angel dies to save the world, spike dies to save the world, angel moves to LA, spike moves to LA etc. its like spike is a later version of angel that went terribly wrong.

. Though Spike is not better than Angel; Angel actively sought redemption while Spike: who said 'I couldn't give a piss about atonment' is just not interested. Angel wants to be a better person for himself... he's proven this on countless occasions, (Angel resents Spike for being blase about it: 'you spent a few weeks moaning in a basement...') Angel at that point in his life was very disillusioned with the hero-biz. Thankfully, Ms Chase gets him back on track . but when that crazy slayer chops his arms off he realises, though he didnt cause her pain but over the years he has caused a lot to others...i think then he wants to help people. Anyway...that whole "i don't give a piss about atonement" is probably just an act...for he is spike and must keep his cool guy, "i don't give a crap" image. I watched an ep of buffy season 5 when spike is helping dawn out with the resurrection spell...and other times...when there have been these little moments when you see him helping her, and he is being genuine...not to get with buffy...he is just helping. It is weird the way Spike is a vampire, but he seems more human than any of the other vamps, it could be the chip, but still...SPIKE RULES
ANGEL
Angel may have been a weaker character on Buffy than on his own show, but no contest for me. I like Spike, but I love Angel ( and David Boreanaz for that matter

Oh, how can you expect me to answer that? XD I love them both.
Both of them appeal to me in their own different way. Angel is a brooding, soppy mess of angst and dark charisma. I watch him when I'm in the mood to cry, because Boreanaz has a kicked puppy look that could make the most unforgiving Grinch's heart grow two sizes. And I'm a sap to start with. I can't tell you how many boxes of Kleenex I've gone through watching the Angel Angst Machine. I should've collected them, I could've built something out of them.
Spike on the other hand is a sarcastic bad boy with the heart of a poet and a lover, and charm oozing out of his ears. (I'm pretty sure that's the reason his hair's that color.) He'll suck the life out of you and make you think it was a fun party. Plus he's British. Where does that not get fun: a badass English vamp?
Both characters are equal parts cool, funny and angsty. And it bears mention: David Boreanaz and James Marsters are both hot. At what point did any of that become unappealing? XD
