    LIFE SERIAL

    The Good;
    Buffy in the workplace, funny...

    The Bad;
    ... but ultimately a bit depressing

    Best line;
    Spike; "C'mon, someones got to stake me"

    Women good/men bad;
    The guys on Xander's building site are pretty sexist towards 'Little Britney' even though she saved their lives.

    Jeez!;
    Shouldn't Buffy make sure she rescues all the kittens?

    Kinky dinky;
    About the weirdest fanfic I ever read had Buffy having sex with the mummy hand. In the follow up story she lures it out of her using a magic charm then smashes it to atoms with her troll hammer (although surely all she needed to do was go upstairs and start the cycle again?). Buffy thinks that the candle buyers' girl isn't going to sleep with him whatever scent he chooses. Anya pictures HERSELF naked when selling, talk about 'sales figures' (the corset top Buffy wears to university would certainly do the trick! And check out the stripper heels she crushes Giles' specs with). Andrew thinks that Scully from the X-files 'Wants him so bad' and envies Jonathon that Buffy 'touched him'. The Nerds find free porn at the end. Lots of gags about Jonathon's 'magic bone'.

    Captain Subtext;
    Willow is a 'breast girl'. Andrew is hesitant to hold hands but as Warren observes you know what ***phobia REALLY means. Spike tells Buffy she's a creature of the night, we'll later find that's true. Anya and Dawn dance together.

    Questions and observations;
    The woman who asks for the mummy hand reminds me of Elle McPherson. The introduction of Clem, here unnamed. If I ever write a TV show I'm going to include a box of kittens in every script (I understand Marish Carey does the same thing?). The Nerds testing Buffy is reminiscent of 'Lois and Clark'. For my money Roger Moore is the greatest James Bond and Dalton the 3rd best after Brosnan. The foreman refer to 'Gidget' as did Joyce in Prophecy Girl. Britney of course, huge now, all conquering at the time. Warren's right about the o'clock thing. Connery is Warren's favourite Bond, interesting that he has a reputation for being misogynist?

  • A Trio of Pranks

    8.0
    "Great"

    Life Serial-Buffy decides that in order to take care of herself and Dawn she must get back to college and find herself a job. This all becomes much more difficult when the nerd Trio decide to present the Slayer with a series of challenges to determine the extent of her abilities.

    To a casual viewer, "Life Serial' may seem like it doesn't have much going for it, but with some great character moments/interaction and effective humor, "Life Serial" manages to be very entertaining at times. Almost completely centered around Buffy (and the Trio of course) with very briefappearancesfrom the rest of the main cast, this episode is actually the first to focus on the adult life issues that Buffy must face this season. After Buffy returns from her mysterious from Angel (honestly, the writers killed us by leaving that Buffy/Angel moment off screen!), Giles waste no time in asking Buffy what her life plans are and like most young adults, Buffy decides to go back to school and then tries getting a job: once at the construction site with Xander then at the Magic Shop with Giles and Anya. But as Buffy finds out, trying to establish an adult life is pretty hard, not just because of her feeling "stupid"during Willow's class, but because apart of her just doesn't want to start over with new life considering well....she didn't want to be brought back in the first place! It doesn't help that she has 3 geeks making her life worse with their silly, over the top pranks that they consider threats.

    The Trio is do amuse in this episode, you got to love the moments with the Deathstar on the van, Andrewaccidentallylanding on the van's horn which honks out the Star Wars theme (talk about priceless!), the Bond actorargument, not to mention, Jonathan's magic! The three situations they put Buffy are all full of hilarious moments like Warren's time warp confusing Buffy so much to the point where she's about to drop an "F" bomb in a priceless cut away scene, Andrew's demons making things worse for Buffy at the construction site after the other construction workers ridicule her (even though she showed them what's what after lifting a large metal beam with ease!) and my personal favorite moment, Jonathan'scustomerservice time loop. Sarah Michelle Gellar really doesn't get enough praise for her comedic timing because I could watch that sequence over and over and I still laugh at loud. From her crushing Giles' glasses to her breaking the doorbell to "You want slug? Go wit Slug? She's not gonna sleep with you anyway!" to her attacking the mummy hand customer etc. All excellent comedy writing and great performance from Sarah. From there, things continue to go downhill as Buffy hilariously gets drunk when Spike takes her out to investigate the possible demon who is messing with her. The kitten poker scene is just classic and we get to see Clem for the first time! Love that guy! You also got to love the moment where Jonathan masquerades as a large, threatening looking demon yet has the strength of...well...himself. But on a serious note, the way the episode ends, is another big plot development with Giles comforting Buffy after being a drunken mess all night. It really shows just how close Giles and Buffy have come, even too close as when Giles gives Buffy the check she not only accepts but pretty much tells him she's glad he'll always be there to bail her out of all the other problems she faces. Buffy's comforting smile as she walks away is a drastic contrast to Giles' disappointing expression. Buffy's dependence is touching but it's only holding her back from doing what she needs to do. It's a strong development that will continue until Giles eventually makes a hard decision for Buffy that will force her to move on for the rest of the season. Overall, "Life Serial" is a solid episode with it's strong script that shows Buffy's struggle with adult issues but having some fun doing it.

    Life Serial was a superb episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This episode really showed us more of the Trio who are mostly familiar faces from the past. They test Buffy and though she over comes every thing they throw at her they still are confident and have more information on her now. I think this was a fun episode to watch with humor, action, magic, intrigue, and drama. Buffy's new nemesis the Trio are keeping things interesting and I look forward to seeing what they do next. Buffy is still dealing with just being back and the others are still not aware of the whole truth.
  • The Trio are just the funniest guys and they really do try to expose bUfy's weaknesses...

    8.9
    "Great"
    In this episode three boys Warren, Andrew and Jonathan try to expose Buffy's weaknesses in the attempt to become a threat to her. Buffy is just recently broke so she is trying to fing a job or something to do with her life. It is too late to sign up for college but she does take a couple of trial classes with Tara and Willow. Warren attaches a speed thing to her so that times passes forward really quickly and Buffy is left spellbound. After going pretty crazy she finds it on her jacket and it selfs-destruct. "Maybe it was lint. Maybe it was evil lint." She then tries to get a job at the construction site where Xander works, but Andrew summons demons to her and of course she kills them, but they evaporate and she loses her job. And then Jonathan does his thing which is probably the most effective and the funniest: "Here, you like slug? Take slug! She ain't sleepin' with you anyway!" She is going a continuos loop until she can satisfy the customer with an ancient mummy hand. "It's kinda hairy though, maybe it was a daddy hand."

    This episode is hilarious and it is really the first of the many great episodes involving The Trio.

    I thought this episode was pretty entertaining. I liked that the Trio was messing with Buffy's head, but I'm glad she found the camera. The episode plot was kind of weird though. Haha, I liked Buffy with the hand, although it got repetitive. I can't believe they play cards for kittens! But I like when Buffy drinks. :) Good episode.
  • This is the one where Buffy says she's going to marry Bob Dole and raise penguins in Guam.

    "Perfect"
    Bob Dole may not always be a faithful fan, what with Bob Dole's Bob Dole responsibilities, but when Bob Dole heard Bob Dole's name was mentioned on an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Bob Dole just had to tune in.

    Bob Dole is currently taken, but that does not stop Bob Dole from fantasizing. Buffy would make Bob Dole a wonderful wife. Bob Dole just sits awake in bed some nights thinking about all that power in one tiny woman, and Bob Dole finds it appealing. Buffy has always promoted great messages through metaphor, but now at last it has the guts to come out and speak of Buffy's untold love for the Bob Dolian Dole-meister, Bob Dole, in plain words. Bob Dole has watched this episode many times and carefully gazed as Buffy's lips move as she says that great sentence. Bob Dole is up for it if Buffy ever wants to give Bob Dole a call. After all, Bob Dole has a certain fondness for penguins, too.

    another one of my favorite episodes. i like the time concept of this one. she's still deciding what to do with her life whether to go back to school or work. the first scene would be the fast forward theme where buffy was disoriented coz she can't seem to catch up with time. then she was a construction worker but demons seem to follow her. the best scene is when she worked in the magic shop and time now doesn't want to end or rather she's having a dejavu, repeating the same thing over and over. it's very funny and i really enjoyed watching this. even the last scene when she was drinking. don't miss this episode!!!
  • "It's like she's completely without focus" - Warren

    9.3
    "Superb"
    Buffy returns, bringing home junk food, whereas the gang have just finished a proper family meal. They quiz her about her meeting with Angel, but she won't tell what happened – that's for Dark Horse to say. So instead, they ask her what she's going to do now - the fried chicken should give a pretty big clue.

    But Buffy doesn't know what she wants to do with the rest of her life, the one she didn't want. The Troika, on the other hand, know exactly what they want to do: to take down Buffy for no other reason that she's there. They see her only as an obstruction rather than a person: "Slayer always knows what she's doing: sharp, decisive, always has a plan," says Jonathan, which obviously contrasts with Buffy's vague ideas, but her ascent into adulthood also contrasts with their arrested adolescence; she has to do something with her life, they do nothing but fool around, signified by their new A-team van (complete with Death Star illustration and Jedi horn). Having no life of her own, Buffy sets out to live her friends', first accompanying Willow to a sociology seminar. As at school, when an English or Biology class would explain the episode, here the Social Construction of Reality theory explains that each group of people in society views the world in a different way. Buffy tries to join these groups with little success and we get a deeper glimpse into the lives of others: Xander is cross that demons have invaded his normal day job, and his reality is responsibilities towards his clients and colleagues. Esoteric learning is the most important thing Willow and Tara, and Giles and Anya's reality may include bewitched mummy hands, but is mostly about the selling of things and receipts and paperwork. Meanwhile, Spike's gang and its pre-occupations hold little interest to Buffy either. In all of these situations, as at school, Buffy's slaying powers are derided or ignored - or both. As we see the different lives of the Slayerettes, we also see the three different personalities within the tricks that the trio perform. Warren, technical guy, wants to disorient and confuse Buffy with his magic LSD lint; Andrew, demon-summoner, has limited imagination and throws Buffy into a fight that she easily wins. Jonathan, with his spells and glammas, only wishes to test her intelligence in a Groundhog Day meets Star Trek meets X Files way (they even throw in a Monty Python quote for extra geek points). The gang are too busy arguing over James Bond (and if a gondolier that turns into a hovercraft is "retarded", what is magic lint?) and laughing at Jonathan's magic bone to notice Buffy noticing them. Buffy may be "too dumb for school" but she's cleverer than the geeks; however, at the end of the ep, Buffy is still gloomy and the boys feel victorious: "We took on the slayer…. we tested her and we survived."

    Buffy has a few things to learn as well - life lessons, if you will. Buffy feels behind in her studies and literally falls behind Tara as time runs away with her. People in their twenties can feel that other people's lives are progressing more quickly than their own, whilst at the same time feeling that life is going to fast for them. It's no wonder that Buffy's day is too speedy and too slow at the same time. Secondly: life is unfair. As with the bank manager, Buffy's super skills save the day at the construction site, but she still doesn't get recognition, gratitude, or what she wants – money, a job. Thirdly, life can be boring and you have to do tedious things to pay your way. Buffy was not born to retail. She escapes from all these lessons in booze and hanging with Spike's demon buddies. Spike wants Buffy to admit that she's "a creature of the night", but his version of evil involves playing poker for kittens with "low-lives" who are, at worst, morally grey. After being part of Buffy's life for too long, he wants her to be part of his, which involves her being the babe on the bar stool and drinking whisky. This is hardly Buffy's style and she tells him "you're completely lame". In her drunken state admits that she wanted Spike to fix her, but as we know, only one person can put right her life.

    And I don't mean Giles, but he solves Buffy's money worries by giving her a cheque, but her life worries aren't over. She spent most of her adolescence wanting independence but now she has it, she wants be a child once again. She tells Giles she feels "safe knowing you're always gonna be here," forgetting that he has a life of his own to pursue. Buffy may proclaim that "life is stupid" but unfortunately, unlike school, life is forever.

    the super nerds wanna get under buffys skin so they have a contest to scare her the most. this episode was actually pretty funny. the horn on their van was hilarious, and the painting of the moon. the magic bvox freak out was really entertaining. the fingers are sold seprately, and the free knife. buffy working with xander was just ok, though it was funny when the guy said her name wrong and she was told to slow down. i also liked the guy who was crying in the corner. overall pretty funny episode.

    "Perfect"
    The nerds are hilarious. They jsut made the sixth season funny. It was a very emotional season (Buffy's dead, Buffy's alive; Giles is here, Giles is gone; Anya is marrying Xander, Xander is leaving her at the altar; Tara's alive, Tara's dea; Willow's good, Willow's bad) Roller coaster season, with a lot of funny stuff from Andrew, Johnathan, and Warren. Very good stuff. In this episode they try to mess up Buffy's life, making things go fast, making demons appear (grab your magic bones Johnathan!), and making her repeat things again and again. She's trying to find and job, which is just messing everything up. Mean as it is, it was funny. Buffy eventually goes out with Spike and gates drunk, while the nerds fight about Connery, Moore and Dalton. which was just awesome!

    Such a funny episode!! :P
  • The Trio hones their evil skills, Buffy has a "Groundhog Day" and Spike cheats at kitten poker. What more could you want from one episode? Hey, don't touch my magic bone!

    "Superb"
    I loved this episode. I admit that the comedic episodes of BtvS are among my favorites. I enjoy the larger story arcs, but I go for the comedy every time. This might be one of the best appearances of the trio, before they got evil and were just nuisances. I really liked the interaction between them, arguing about geeky stuff like the architecture of the Death Star and who is the best Bond. (My vote goes to Pierce Brosnan!) They way they didn't really seem to get along and kept making fun of each other was great. As for Buffy, she usually is in control of things, so it was kind of interesting to see her floundering around, trying lots of things and failing at all of them. But of course the Magic Box scenes are clas-sic. Having the same scene happen over and over and she just gets so frustrated and starts throwing things at people and acting rude. Absolutely loved the mummy hand ("Fingers sold separately.").

    She gets so completely overwhelmed that she ends up doing shots with Spike, definitely hitting the bottom of the barrel in her opinion. I think the kitten poker was a bit silly, but it did bring me my favorite scene/line from the whole episode:

    BUFFY: (struggling drunkenly with her jacket) What's wrong?! You were gonna help me! You, you were gonna beat heads and, and, and fix my life! But you're completely lame! Tonight sucks! And, and look at me! Look at, look at stupid Buffy! Too dumb for college, and, and, and freak Buffy, too strong for construction work. And, and my job at the magic shop? I was bored to tears even *before* the hour that wouldn't end! And the only person I can even stand to be around is a ... neutered vampire who cheats at kitten poker.

    SPIKE: (embarrassed) Oh, you saw the cheating, did you. BUFFY: Also, I think you're drunk.

    "Superb"
    This episode was just so amusing to watch. I hated that they totally left out what happened with Buffy's meeting with Angel, but whatever.

    I loved the Trio in this episode, because they were all about the really trivial stuff. They were just normal guys here for the most part, and that was a great setup for their later villain side.

    I loved Buffy's attempts at going back to school, working construction, and then the job at the magic box. This episode was really about Buffy looking for something she could do, and I liked that she had so many failed attempts, it kept the story interesting.

    Warren making Buffy's time at school have the weird time problem thing was so totally lame and Andrew with the demons at the construction sight was also lame, but Jonathan was great. I loved the hour that never ended at the magic box. It was so incredibly funny to see Buffy and that damn Mummy hand. I loved that. The guy looking for a romantic scented candle was slightly amusing. I loved when Buffy threw the slug one at him and said "She's not going to sleep with you."

    Buffy getting drunk with Spike was just so hilarious. Spike playing poker for kittens how funny can you get? I loved how Clem accused Spike of cheating and then the card he was hiding popped out.

    I loved the Giles/Buffy scene at the end. It was so beautiful to see them together.

    Really superb episode, just for the funniness.

    why do the writers hate us and make us get through those unbelievably annoying characters? this episode was almost just as bad as the previous one but at least it had the scene at the magic shot that made time come back over and over and over. thats the only reason why it's watchable. the rest is just pathetic and pitful.
  • Though it wasn't a stellar episode at had some great comedic moments!

    7.0
    "Good"
    I really loved watching Buffy's hilarity in dealing with her new team of enemies. A lot of the things were really just annoyances and slightly lame but they did throw our slayer for a loop. It was interesting to see how Buffy did have such trouble dealing with the problems that the nerd squad cooked up compared with how she dealt with world destroying demons. She was really unprepared to deal with that kind of attack on her and her world, combined with the unstability she was already feeling this episode fit in so perfectly with the over all feel of the season.
  • full of funny things happening to Buffy....

    "Superb"
    this ep was pretty good, i mean the time speeding up seemed a little weird as in wouldn't people see someone just standing there, for hours on end??? Yet the run into her, but looking onto her, we would se a buffy hiding under a table for hours, which would seem weird i think. But points for the never ending hour, that was well done. Having to please a customer, very amusing to watch, and it included a classic willow moment, when she just says something riddiculas. Her "i'm more of a breast girl, but you already know that" when they were eating the chicken. that was funny. so yeah, it was a pretty good ep. But not the best.
  • buffy is tested by the trio.

    buffy is tested by the trio she battles Andrews Demons. Warrens TIme shifting bug and Jonathin s never ending hour. this is a hilarious episode filled with clever jokes funny situations and fighting drunk Buffy. Who does not like a demon fighting drunk? and the sound Buffy makes after drink was adorible and hilarious. I loved the never ending hour montauge and Anya s cruel payment deduction. I also wonder why spike and the demons play for kittins (but not for cats). The money problem is also something that i am glad was put in some normalty to the show.
  • I love it...

    This episode was much needed fun for the start of the season. The Trio's silliness, joxtaposed with Buffy's life issues make for great television. Each of the Trio actors did a great job explaining their characters and the hierarchy of the Trio without beating us over the head with it.

    This episode has extreme focus, as opposed to the rest of the season, where I waited forever for something to happen. This episode though, adds to the overall plotline of the trio pushing the scoobs to their breaking point.

    Overall, this was a great episode that has made me laugh many, many times.
  • Great episode and very funny but not so necessary. The thing that makes it so good is the magic box scene. that was just hilarious! the var scene with Spike wasn't so great though.

    This episode is great and very hilarious but the only weak thing I could think about would be the poker part and the last minutes weren't so interesting. but the funniest and the best about this episode was that magic shop scene. that one was hilarious!

    cut to Buffy coming back. she sits with her friends and she brought chickenfeed. she doesn't wanna talk about what she did with Angel. and she doesn't have any plans at all for her life but maybe go to school again with Willow and Tara. cut then to the three nerds talking about beating Buffy. they have a big truck and are going to get her the next day.

    the credits start

    cut to school Buffy and Willow in class but everyone is very smart and Buffy can't keep up with them. cut to outside. a guy bumps into Buffy and puts something on her and he walks away. it was Warren. cut to Buffy and Tara talking. something weird happens. and times goes buy fast. cut to the truck where the trio are watching and say it's cool. cut to Buffy missing class and then Tara is gone. cut to Buffy outside and everyone walks very fast and she goes on a table and grabs something that's on her and then the trio make it to self-destruct.

    then the trio give each other a rank and Warren gets 220 points. Andrew says he's gonna beat them. cut to Buffy and Xander going to build things. Buffy didn't wanna work with Giles. then they start to work but they laugh at Buffy but then she starts to grab some heavy stick. then it's Andrew's time and he makes a sound with his fluit. cut to Buffy working when some demon attack her and she kills them and they melt. then comes Xander and nobody believes her and he tells her to go home and he fires her.

    cut to Buffy in the magic shop. the trio do a spell cause it's Jonathan's time now. cut to the magic shop and a customer comes is. she asks Buffy for a mummy hand and Buffy is going to get it. and the mummy hand attacks her so she kills it. cut to later Buffy giving it to the woman but she doesn't want it dead. cut back to Buffy again. she sees that this happened already and she has to satisfy the customer. she grabs the mommy but the fingers in separately. and then it starts to go over and over again. Buffy tries it in many different ways. and after many times she tells the woman she will send one to her and then she satisfy the customer. and the geeks are happy and say that it isn't over. then Buffy didn't make the woman pay enough so she leaves them because she didn't like the job.

    cut to Buffy and Spike, Buffy is drinking and Spike says he can find out more for her and she asks if their is drinks in his world. cut to Spike going to play cards and Buffy is there and they play for kittens. cut to the trio on the car going for Buffy. cut to Buffy with Spike and she thinks it's dumb and she goes away and thought it was stupid. cut to Buffy coming out and she sees the van and is going over it. and she hits and then he goes because he’s hurt. the demon goes back and turns into Jonathan again and goes in the back. they say it's not over and they are going to continue defeating the slayer.

    cut to Buffy back at home. she tells Giles she is screwing up. so Giles is gonna help her and gives her a cheque. and that she is very thankful for Giles and it makes her feel save knowing that he will always be there but then his smile changes.

    Best episode quotes:

    Willow: You're not dumb. Just rusty.

    Buffy: Maybe I should ease back in with some non-taxing classes, like, introduction to pies, or maybe advanced walking.

    Warren: Okay, score me.

    Jonathan: Rrrright. Fifty points for ingenuity, another thirty since it involved actual contact.

    Andrew: Very smooth, by the way.

    Jonathan: On the freak-o-meter I'd say she was at a six.

    Warren: Oh come, it's an eight, easy!

    Jonathan: We'll split the diff, call it a seven. Which is good for a hundred and forty, giving you a grand total of...

    Andrew Andrew: Two hundred and twenty.

    Warren: Beat that!

    Andrew: Oh, I will. I will.

    Tony: Okay, Danny, finish puttin' in those J-boxes, Vince, Marco, I need you to haul the steel inside.

    Marco: Gee, I don't know, Tone. I don't wanna get in trouble with those affirmative action lawyers, you know what I'm sayin'? Why don't you put, uh, little Britney here on hauling duty?

    Buffy: It's Buffy.

    Tony: Okay, princess, you're on it. Try not to break a nail.

    Buffy: I didn't imagine this, Xander.

    Xander: I know. I believe you. In fact, I'm starting to think between this attack and the school thing that somebody's messin' with you.

    Buffy: Really? You think they're connected?

    Xander: Well, there's something going on. I think it's worth checking out, and I don't mean later. You need to see Giles and get on it right away. I'd start with ID'ing those demons.

    Buffy: You're firing me, aren't you.

    Xander: Big time. The whole melty thing oughta help narrow it down.

    Warren: This is so dull I might actually have fallen asleep and be dreaming you guys.

    Andrew: Why is the Slayer here anyway? She's a student, she's a construction worker, and ... now she's some kind of ... selling stuff person?

    Warren: It's like she's completely without focus. Should we check the other channels for free cable porn?

    Jonathan: I need you to hold hands.

    Andrew: With each other?

    Warren: Well, you know what homophobia really means about you, don't you?

    Jonathan: Stop touching my magic bone!

    Female Customer: This hand is dead. The power is gone, I'm not giving you money for this!

    Buffy: Oh, it's just playing dead. Little scamp.

    Anya: Go help the lady who just came in.

    Buffy: Wait-

    Anya: Don't worry, don't be nervous. Do what I do, just picture yourself naked.

    Aandrew: I just hope she solves it faster than Data did on the ep of TNG where the Enterprise kept blowing up.

    Warren: Or Mulder, in that X-Files where the bank kept exploding.

    Aandrew: Scully wants me so bad.

    Giles: Buffy, a word in your ear. Um, if you, uh, think of the store as a, as a library, it'll help you to, to, uh, concentrate on, on ... service rather than selling.

    Buffy: Yes. And then I'm going to marry Bob Dole and raise penguins in Guam.

    Giles: Yes, uh, quite, quite, yes.

    Buffy: Ya like slug? Go with slug. She's not gonna sleep with you anyway.

    Spike: You're not a schoolgirl. You're not a shop girl. You're a creature of the darkness. Like me. Try on my world. See how good it feels.

    Buffy: Are there drinks in your world?

    Green Demon: You're lucky today, Spike.

    Spike: Got my good-luck charm with me.

    Scaly Demon: You cleaned us out. No-one's that lucky.

    Clem: Yeah. I'm starting to think you cheat.

    Spike: Me? I cheat? He's got X-ray vision!

    Scaly Demon: I'm not using it.

    Clem: We are not the ones who are cheating! I, I had no idea that was there. I could have leaned on that days ago.

    Green Demon: You better go, Spike. Things could get ugly.

    Scaly Demon: Got ugly the second he walked in. Him and his human.

    Clem: Her skin's so tight, I don't even know how you can look at her.

    Andrew: The Slayer touched you.

    Jonathan: Yeah, it was sexy the way she touched me real hard with her fists.

    Buffy: I'm really screwing up, Giles.

    Giles: What? Come on. You were being tested ... sequentially, by some ... unknown demon. I don't call that screwing up.

    Buffy: No, it completely is. I let the demon set the rules.

    Giles: Go easy on yourself, will you? I mean, you don't have to figure the whole thing out at once, you know, job and everything. You're pushing yourself too hard.

    Buffy: The nice people at the phone company? Seem to think it's not hard enough.

    Giles: Well, maybe there's something I can do about that. This is, um ... I... It's for you.

    Buffy: A check? This is, is too much, I can't take it.

    Giles: Well, tear it up then.

    Buffy: No! I was just being polite. I'm taking the money. This is, this is great. This is more than great. I don't ... really know how to say this ... but it's a little like having Mom back.

    Giles: In this scenario I am your mother?

    Buffy: Wanna be my shiftless absentee father?

    Giles: Is there some sort of, um, rakish uncle?

    Bufy: I'm just saying ... Thank you. So much. I'm gonna ... show this to Dawn. She loves it when things get easy. I just ... wanna tell you ... that, um ... this ... makes me feel safe. Knowing you're always gonna be here.

  • A very funny outing.

    "Good"
    While nothing earth-shattering happens in this episode, it's a very droll installment in a largely dreary season.

    The metaphors work quite well here--school feels like it goes by too fast, the guys at the construction site feel threatened by a *quite* stronger woman, retail feels like you're doing the same thing over and over, etc.

    The Evil Trio are hilarious; I roared with laughter during their discussions about the Death Star and about James Bond. And Buffy's "Groundhog Day" experience at work is also a total scream.
  • Buffy tries to get a job and the nerds take turns messing with her. This is a really funny episode and it highlights Sarah’s ability to do comedy.

    "Great"
    First there is a speeding up thing, where Buffy is talking and seems to jump ahead in time. It’s quite funny and she handles the slapstick elements well. When she tries to work in construction, it is funny before the nerd problem even happens, the guys don’t want to work with a girl, and then she shows them up by being stronger and doing more work. Next she goes to work at the Magic Box and does a “Groundhog Day” routine. It’s all very funny and eventually she figures out the nerds are doing it, but not before we all laugh a bit.
