Episode Recap

After school Xander, Willow and Buffy watch Cordelia approach a black BMW to meet her new college boyfriend, Richard: a Delta Zeta Kappa brother. His friend, Tom, wants to meet Buffy. Cordelia drags Buffy to meet Tom and Richard. Tom asks Buffy to go to a party just as Giles calls her to the library. She declines the invite and heads off to meet Giles. Later, Buffy is patrolling and finds a bracelet on the ground. Angel appears and smells blood on the piece of jewelry. The subject of dating comes up, but Angel dismisses any idea of a 16-year-old Slayer dating a centuries old vampire. Hurt and angry, Buffy runs off.

Cordelia asks Buffy to reconsider going to the party because she can only go with Richard if Buffy goes with Tom. Buffy consents to go, out of revenge for the way Angel talked to her last night. Meanwhile, Richard leads a pledge in an oath of brotherhood. Richard tells the pledge his life belongs to "Machida" the god they serve. Afterwards, they all drink beer as Richard walks over to Callie, a high school girl shackled to a wall.

Buffy shows Giles the bracelet. Giles wants her to patrol again tonight, but she lies to him, pretending her sick mother is the reason why she won't be available. Willow can't get over the idea of Buffy lying to Giles, while ultra-protective Xander worries about Buffy being surrounded by frat guys.

Cordy and Buffy arrive at the party. Richard welcomes the two with drinks. Cordy tries to pressure Buffy into drinking, but it doesn't work so she walks off with Richard, leaving Buffy alone. She takes a small sip from her drink before Tom greets her for a dance. Buffy takes a stroll outside. She steps on a piece of glass and picks it up to examine it. Tom and Richard both find Buffy outside. Richard hands her a drink. She gulps the drink, trying to loosen up.

Willow and Giles try to figure out what the bracelet means. Willow figures it out: the bracelet belongs to a girl from a nearby preparatory school. She looks up the school in the computer and finds a picture of Callie, listed as a missing person. Giles wants to get Buffy involved, but Willow is afraid to blow her cover. She tells him to ask Angel instead.

Buffy is at the front door, feeling woozy from the alcohol. She tries to steady herself against a wall. She stumbles to the stairs and makes her way up to find a place to lie down. She finally locates a bed and falls asleep next to a passed out Cordy. Richard and Tom are preparing for the ritual. Cordy, Buffy, and Callie are shackled to a wall.

Angel tells Giles where Buffy found the bracelet. Willow figures out that it's near the frat house, making her even more nervous. Giles and Angel begin to leave for the frat house when Willow finally breaks down and tells the two guys about Buffy and Cordy's party plans. Giles is upset that Buffy lied to him, and Angel is upset that she had a date. Their selfish attitudes send Willow on a rampage, and the normally soft-spoken teen loudy chastises both of them for failing to consider Buffy's feelings in their lives. She starts with Giles. "And you never let her do anything except work and patrol! And I know she's the Chosen One, but you're killing her with the pressure! I mean, she's sixteen going on forty!" But Willow's not done yet - it's Angel's turn. "And you! I mean, you're gonna live forever! You don't have time for a cup of coffee?!" That said, the three of them decide it's time to go after the Slayer.

In the basement, Tom is calling for the demon Machida. The more he prays to Machida, the more freaked out Cordelia gets. Tom finally tosses the stones into the water, one at a time, awaiting Machida's ascension. As it breaks through the water, Cordy screams at the half-man, half-snake monster that growls at the girls. Machida closes in on Cordy, who's loud screaming only draws the monster to her rather than scaring it. Buffy diverts the demon's attention from Cordy, infuriating Tom that a woman would dare speak to their god. He slaps her and threatens to cut her throat if she speaks again. Two brothers unchain Cordy and hold her as Tom hears noises from upstairs, ordering the brothers to go investigate the source. He beseeches Machida to feed on Cordy. She screams as Buffy finally breaks free from her chains to fight the demon and the frat brothers.

Tom is furious with her and tries to attack her with his sword. But she is able to catch the blade with her chains, binding him up. Machida grabs Cordy and drags her away, as the calvary charges down the stairs. Buffy picks up Tom's sword and slashes it into the demon's flesh, forcing him to drop Cordy. The demon dead, Willow frees Callie as Giles helps Cordy. Giles looks at Buffy with a stern, disappointed glare. She can't look at him, too ashamed of lying and consuming alcohol. She asks for forgiveness but so does Giles. He apologizes for pushing her too hard and promises to lighten up - at least somewhat. She smiles at him as he helps her walk up the stairs.

At The Bronze, Jonathan is at the bar, impatiently waiting for a cappuccino and muffin to take to Cordelia. He takes it to her but realizes he messed the order up, and goes back to the bar. Cordy is now hooked on "younger men" after her horrific college guy experience. Angel comes to see Buffy at The Bronze, looking to ask her for a coffee date. Buffy smiles with happiness and all is well in Sunnydale... until the next baddy comes to town. For now, Buffy can just enjoy a normal coffee, at a normal club, with a not-so-normal date. Hey, two out of three ain't bad.
