    The Good;
    The ep to put joy into the hearts of Spuffers everywhere. Brilliantly funny with some emotional resonance with Willow and Xander and Anya's relationship taking a step forwards. Plus AMY! Nice little touches too like Giles' 'Kiss the librarian' mug

    The Bad;
    Some of the demons look a bit ropey. Why does Willow's spell on the other's work instantly but Giles only becomes progressively blind?

    Best line;
    Xander; "What? How? What?"
    Giles; "3 excellent questions?"

    Tied up;
    Spike chained in the bathtub

    Women good/men bad;
    Buffy comments that her dad isn't too far away which means they're not estranged yet

    Jeez!;
    Anya says that she used to do spells to give men 'Boils on the penis'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Kinky dinky;
    Buffy teasing a chained up Spike with her neck. Plus naked Amy. Xander tells Anya to consider his lips the 'fruit roll ups of love'. Willow shakes her booty on the dancefloor. Willow comments on all the demons who are attracted to Xander. Buffy ponders her attraction to dark relationships? Xander pictures her in Raquel Welsh's bucksin bikini from 1 Million Year BC. D'Hoffryn strokes Will's face (he seems to consider his female demons akin to his daughters?)

    Calling Captain Subtext;
    Note it's Spike who notices that Willow is still in pain. Perhaps William the Bloody;sensitive poet isn't totally gone after all? Spike's 'little brother' jealousy of Angel is still evident. Riley helps out the UC Sunnydale Lesbian Alliance by hanging their banner up and tells Buffy that he's a lesbian (he wishes!). Willow agrees that Riley has good arms (another tick in the Bi box)

    Where's Dawn?
    Presumably returned with Buffy from visiting their dad in LA. Buffy doesn't seem to get around to telling Dawn and Joyce about her engagement.
    Spike seems to cast aspersions on Joyce's naming of Buffy which is weird as he normally thinks the world of her.

    Questions and observations;
    Hugely funny, nice to see that Willow mourning her loss of Oz hasn't just been forgotten about. A step forwards for Spike and D'hoffryn back again. Buffy again refers to her not being the greatest driver. Willow still has the pics at the peir from season 3 of Buffy. Buffy kills one vamp and Xander drowns a demon. Buffy says that they may be into a forgetting spell later and indeed in season 6 they are.

  • Spike and Buffy are getting married!

    9.5
    "Superb"
    Something Blue is an outstanding episode- hilarious, well acted and with a great plot. It has some brilliant dialogue and you will laugh all the way through. A perfect example of a comedy episode done right.

    OK, the bad out of the way first. Willow annoyed me lots here. I know she's upset over Oz and all but does she really need to be such a bitca to her friends? Then again she isn't as annoying as say Buffy whenever she's around Angel. All they do is whine. Still, Willow was annoying all episode and her moping sort of detracted from the goodness!

    OK, the bad is over. This episode is so funny. The spells going wrong isn't an original concept but it works. Giles going blind, Spike and Buffy getting married and Xander becoming an actual demon magnet was a stroke of inspiration. Whoever though of the marriage is brilliant.

    I loved the marriage bits so much. I'm a big Buffy/Spike fan and this episode had their first kiss and everything! It really showcased the amazing chemistry between James and Sarah and their interactions were fantastic. Buffy singing "Dum, dum, dum dum" while moving the little plastic bride and groom up Spike's arm was hilarious and the arguement over who's name was better cracked me up. Also, I love the bit where Buffy tells Riley she's getting married and describe Spike as "totally old" and says she doesn't even like him. It's priceless.

    Giles going blind was great also. His comments on Buffy and Spike were so fun and I loved the "Stop kissing. I can hear the smacking from here". Xander being a demon magnet wasn't as fun as the others but was very significant in that Xander does seem to be a demon magnet when it comes to women!

    I also liked the reintroduction of D'Hoffryn in this episode. He's not the best character but I loved anything to do with Anya's past really- I'm so sad we only got one flashback episode of her past! It's so interesting. Anya is a character still finding her footing but it's worth keeping your eye on her- she's simply too funny in the later seasons!

    Something Blue is a fantastic, hilarious episode and one that you won't forget. It is as perfect a comedy as Buffy gets and an episode that always gets a laugh. Definitely not an episode to missed!

    Something Blue was a perfectly classic episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The motto for this episode, be careful of what you say, the universe just might make it happen! I really enjoyed watching this episode because there was a lot of character building for Willow who is still suffering over Oz leaving. It was cool to see more of Willow doing magic and the effects for it are cool. I really like the story and what happens to each of the characters was great. Buffy almost spoiled things with Riley, however in the end they were good. I can't wait to see what happens in the next episode!

    another annoying episode. at least willow finally gets over oz leaving her and that is why this episode is wroth a 1.7 because everything else was bad. spike and buffy getting married? eww. what a mess is season 4. another forgetable episode.

    one part i liked was giles tripping over some funiture. maybe making giles blind is not a bad idea?
  • One of my favorites!

    One of the best Buffy episodes ever! Willow is dirauight over losing Oz so she casts a spell to "let her will be done". Of course that may not be the best thing. Willow sarcastically mentions to Xander that Buffy should go marry Spike and she almost does.

    it was great to play with the chracter emotions and I loved seeing Giles go nuts over Buffy and Spike! This was a really funny episode and it always makes me smile! I love it!

    I also enjoyed when Buffy ann Spike found out it was a spell and freaked. Very, very funny.

    Favorite Quotes:

    Spike: "Don't I get a cookie?"

    Buffy: "No."

    Spike: "Well, I gotta have something. I still have Buffy taste in my mouth."

    Buffy: "You're a pig, Spike."

    Spike: "Yeah, well, I'm not the one who wanted "Wind Beneath My Wings" for the first dance."

    The first time I saw this one, I laughed so hard I was crying. Everything went haywire for the scoobies in this ep. It seems Willow tried a spell to have her will be done, and boy did it ever work! Giles ended up blind, Xander became a demon magnet, and Buffy and Spike get engaged. My review just can't do this ep justice, you need to watch it!
  • Buffy and Spike engaged!!! WHA???

    Willow is still in pain, and it only gets worse when she realizes Oz is really gone. She even becomes a little bitter and rude towards her friends. She tries to cast a spell to help mend her broken heart, but things go awry as they usually do in the Buffyverse. Her spell causes whatever she says to happen in real life. It leads to some humorous scenes with Buffy and Spike.

    Spike has gone to the Scoobies for help after The Initiative has done something to him that prevents him from feeding. He offers information about the initiative in exchange for help.

    I really enjoy this episode. It's one of the better ones of Season 4.

    Willow is still trying to get over Oz. She casts a spell to make all her desires come true, but something goes wrong when everything she says comes true once she gets angry. As a result, Giles becomes blind, Xander attracts demons (or continues to attract demons), and Buffy and Spike become engaged.

    I enjoyed watching this episode. It seemed like it focused on storyline a lot in the beginning though, which is why I think this season is so different, besides the college setting. However, Riley is hot, and I loved seeing Buffy and Spike engaged. It was very different and entertaining. Sarah Michelle Gellar's acting was also amazing as usual. :)
  • But it was totally fun and hilarious!

    When this ep first aired, it was a real hoot seeing mortal enemies Buffy and Spike play lovebirds. But because of Seasons 5 and 6, when their relationship really is explored, that all undermines the entire concept of this episode.

    So let's not look at it from a retrospective angle (that would make this utterly useless), but let's examine the show as it was intended when it first aired: toget a real kick out of seeing Buffy and Spike toegther, which is some of the most amusing stuff we've seen from the show all season. Some welcom laughs because Willow was becoming a real downer after losing Oz.
  • Something Hilarious

    9.5
    "Superb"
    Something Blue-Feeling adrift after losing Oz, Willow casts a spell to make her desires come true. The spell seems to fail, but strange things begin happening to her friends when Willow gets angry.

    Tracey Forbes really recovers after the whole "Beer Bad" fiasco and pens one of the funniest episodes of the series here. All the Willow centered episodes always seem to be some of the best of the series and "Something Blue" is no exception. Alyson Hannigan is her usual wonderful, adorable self as Willow, especially when she finds out Oz has packed everything and his room is completely empty. Just watching Willow so sad and depressed is hard, but Willow's break-up with Oz really develops character as Willow becomes more reckless, not to mention drinking for the first time in this episode.

    Despite the drama in Willow's life, this episode provides some priceless magical hijinks when Willow does a spell that causes whatever she says actually happen. First, Giles goes blind, then Willow unknownly turns Amy back into a human and then back into a rat again and Xander becomes a demon magnet...literally this time! But the highlight if definately Buffy and Spike becoming a couple as they plan for their wedding. Both Sarah Michelle Gellar and James Masters give some truly hilarious performances, not to mention the dialogue between them is perfect. I loved how they fought over Angel and Drusilla's names being mentioned, Spike's line about "Mr. and Mrs. pile of dust" and Buffy telling Riley she's getting married. Also, I loved these lines:

    Spike: "Don't I get a cookie?"

    Buffy: "No."

    Spike: "I got to eat something, still have Buffy taste in my mouth."

    Buffy: "You're a pig, Spike."

    Spike: "Ohh yeah, well I'm not the one who wanted Wind Beneath My Wings as the first dance."

    Also, I loved the scene of D'Hoffryn offering Willow to become a vengenance demon. Just the way Willow declines and D'Hoffryn casually gives him his coin so Willow can give him a chant is priceless. All and All, "Something Blue" is a superbly funny episode and the finest writing effort from Tracey Forbes who shows she's a much more capable writer than previously thought at this point.
  • Spike, honey...

    Willow was responsible that everything happened- Buffy realized she wants to marry Spike, Xander is a demon magnet and Giles loses his sight. Only because she was sad and in pain and casted a spell which made everyone behave strangely. I loved Spike and Buffy kissing and acting silly, but I'm so looking forward to see them getting together in season 5!! After all, Buffy loves bad guys (and they're normally over hundred years old)

    We found out that Spike loves Passions which he obviously started to watch at Giles's cause he didn't have a tv before, did he? And Buffy wants Wind beneath my wings to be played at her wedding. Isn't that usually played on funerals?

    Great episode! Loved it.

    This was one of the best episodes in season 4. I really enjoyed it. A lot of funny things happen in this episode. Spike has to stay over at Giles house. He's being kept hostage. Probably having no fun with a chip in his head. Willow wishes that Spike and Buffy should get married and then BAM... they are engaged. It's so funny when she's looking at wedding dresses and she tell's Riley she's getting married. At the end she covers up by saying she was joking and playing with head. Spike's comments about being dust is really funny too. Willow wishes Giles is blind and he can't see anything. Willow was right about Xander being a demon magnet. It was exciting when seeing all those demons going after Xander. I liked how Amy appeared for just a couple of seconds and then turned back into a rat. It's so cool because Willow was wanting to know how to turn her back and she doesn't turn her back into human until season 7.

    and once again,willow's spell went the wrong way.she did a spell that she thought went wrong,but it worked and she didn't know that.whatever she says will come true. this episode had little riley which i gotta say that i am happy at.giles ended up near blind then totaly blind.buffy and spike fell in 'love' and nearly marry each other,which is totaly wrong,then again,that's why it's all so funny.and demons seem to have a sudden interest in Xander,then again aren't they already interested in him?and riley didn't even get involve in it,other than buffy telling him that she is 'engaged'. the episode ends with willows spell being broken,giles having back his eye sight,ess demons interested in Xander and willow baking cookies.

    bloody brilliant episode. i love this episode. its one of the best episode in this whole season. its also one of the episode in season 4 that doesn't have a lot of riley. willow is depressed because oz left. so she made a spell for her will be done. trouble is, shhe doesnt know the spell was successful. in the end, giles became blind, buffy and spike nearly got married, xander was a demon magnet. buffy and spike were just so funny. in season 4 they just seemed so wrong together. it was just hillarious. and giles being blind was funny. he was falling and breaking stuffs. the whole episode was just hillarious.

    Willow is playing witch again and things go awry. She accidentally turns Xander into a demon magnet, makes Giles blind and makes Giles and Buffy fall in love and plan to get married. This was one of the funniest episodes that I have seen in a while. Willow’s antics (although unplanned) bring her the attention of a demon who wants to turn her into a vengeance demon. Willow declines and makes everything all better. Well almost all as Riley thinks that Buffy is really engaged to an older man.

    Favorite Quote of the Episode:

    Spike: Passions is on! Timmy's down the bloody well, and if you make me miss it I'll —

    Giles: Do what? Lick me to death?
  • bloody fabulous!an absolute classic episode!

    O.My.God this was a so good it was absolutly hilarious i was literally falling off the couch laughing

    Willow more than a little upset about Oz leaving basically casts a spell so her will may be done.spike is being kept hostage at giles and buffy is trying to find out info from him willow makes a sarcastic comment about them getting married.giles comes out of the kitchen asking them to be civil and finds them engaged!!

    then the wedding plans i just have to quote this:

    SPIKE:First thing i say we're not having a church wedding

    BUFFY:How about a daytime ceremony in the park

    SPIKE:Fabulous.Enjoy your honeymoon with the big pile of dust

    BUFFY:Under the trees-indirect sunlight

    SPIKE:Warm spring breeze tosses the leaves aside and again you're regrestering as Mr.and Mrs Big Pile Of Dust!!! lol

    then giles realises he is blind and xander a demon magnet xander then realises it's willow buffy hugs spike and says she must be immune to it because she is the slayer

    later willow comes xander is being choked while buffy lies on the floor and makes out with spike reverses the spell the look on spike and buffys face is hilarious.Willow feels very guilty and bakes cookies spike asks for one complainig he has buffy breath!buffy won't give him one and he remarks it was her who wanted wing beneath my wings for their wedding song he gets a cookie top episode worth watching just for the buffy and spike scenes!!

    I just love this episode! Spike is the best thing about series 4 of BTVS for me and I love that he is 'on a leash' throughout the whole thing. The fact that he can't harm anybody, but would love to, is pure comedy.

    I loved seeing Buffy and Spike together. It was new, unexplored territory for them as a couple, but it worked brilliantly. And I think it was kind of a light hearted test run to see how us viewers would react to their pairing, so that it could be saved for a later date.

    Giles going blind and getting drunk was totally out of character, again brilliant to see as it just added to the already huge comedy factor.

    This is another of my top favourite BTVS episodes, a classic!
  • And yet another spell has gone terribly wrong

    9.3
    "Superb"
    Well this one was just really a good laugh. Their was a little seriousness with Willow and her feelings for Oz and him leaving but other then that it was just funny.

    I loved the Riley/Buffy angle they were kinda cute at both the beginning and end. It was so humorous to see Riley's reaction when Buffy told him she was marrying a guy named Spike too.

    In the beginning you could really feel Willow's pain and you felt bad for her, but then when she started with the beer and taking things out on her friends you just wanted to hit her.

    Willow was horrible to Giles. He really was just worried about her and sometimes your friends annoy you when they care but Giles didn't really go overboard or yell at her. She wasn't that much better to Buffy and Xander. She made it as though Buffy didn't care about her at all and she made Xander feel bad about himself. Willow was just not nice and slightly depressing in this episode.

    I did however love Giles being blind and trying to do a spell on Spike when he couldn't read any of the words it was so funny. Buffy and Spike planning to get married was way too funny. I loved Giles yelling at them and getting drunk while listening to them kiss. Xander becoming a demon magnet was just not good for him.

    It was cool that D'Hoffryn offered Willow a job as a Vengeance demon and that was what got Willow to see what terrible things she had done.

    I loved the end where Willow was baking cookies.
  • Another brilliant episode.

    This is one of my most favorite episodes of the show, I absolutley loved it! It was so well written, the plot was brilliant, Willow does a spell and then suddenly Spike and Buffy getting married? lmao was the funniest thing I've ever seen lol. The dialogue was fanstic and had me in stitches many times through out the episode and the actors were absolutley amazing especially James Marsters, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Anthony Stewart Head, I felt their scenes in this episode were totally wicked! This is yet another episode I could watch time and time again and never get bored of it.
  • Through out this entire episode it was just a series of "OH MY GOD'S!" and "WHAT JUST HAPPENED!?!"

    Xander's practicly being flogged by demons, Giles is blind, Spike and Buffy are getting married! What is going on!?!? Shock after shock after shock. It was excellent! And poor Riley! That's one of the things I remember most from the episode, the interaction between Riley and Buffy about her engagement to Spike. They really had a great vibe going to accompany their chemistry and it came through great in the conversation, which was just non-sensical!
  • Willow casts a spell and what ever she says comes true. Spike and Buffy get engaged, Giles is blinded, and Xander becomes a demon magnent.

    This was well written and one of those episodes that you just ahve to own. Ive seen this episode too many times to count. It is hilarious with the whole spike/buffy story. The only thing that i thought was not well written was that after she undo's the spell the demons vanish they shouldve have just ran away. I love how it shows spike is the only one who understans love. This was my favorte episode in the fourth season. This is the reason why i watch this show it isn't just laughs isn't just romance isn't just action. its all combined to make an excellent show. Buffy the Vampire Slayer rocks!!!
  • Brilliantly funny episode. When Willow casts a 'let my will be done' spell, it naturally has unintended consequences.

    Willow's heartbreak over Oz continues and when it appears that everyone else's sympathy is running out when she needs them most, she turns to magic. Trying to will herself to get over her pain (a Willow trait that will lead to dispicable behavior later), she accidentally makes it so that everything she says happens.

    Giles goes blind.

    Buffy and Spike plan to marry.

    Xander becomes a literal demon magnet (rather than just romantically speaking).

    The cast has fun, especially the Spuffy moments and Giles getting a sick stomach listening to the couple. Of course when Spuffy does happen in season 6 - it's nowhere near as funny, but you can't deny that Sarah and James have marvelous chemistry together.
  • "I’ve got to get away from this bad boy thing" - Buffy

    9.7
    "Superb"
    Riley and Buffy are getting to know one another better, Xander and Anya’s relationship is moving beyond just sex and Willow is falling apart. Oz has gone, properly, definitely, and Willow is not coping. In fact she’s whining. Copiously. She moans: “I just can’t stand feeling this way. I want it to be over” and like Buffy misusing beer to get over Poophead Parker, Willow misuses on magic to try and deal with her anguish. Which is apt since a) Buffy still has Cavegirl hair and b) the two episodes were both written by the same writer. Willow garners our sympathy when she claims that everyone wants her “to go through the pain” rather than have a quick fix, “but no-one wants to be inconvenienced”. It’s true; no-one has the time to listen to the whole gamut of emotions that people feel post breakup. We get a some more conflict between Giles and Willow re: responsibility and magicks and I think we start to see a little hint of S6 Willow; her inability to deal with grief and her striking out at those around her.

    Spike fulfils his role of the outsider who sees all by pointing out that “she’s hangin’ on by a thread. Any ninny can see that”, whilst drinking microwaved blood from a straw whilst tied up in Giles’s bath and hollering about the TV: “Passions is on! And Timmy’s down the bloody well!” Meanwhile, talking of passions, Buffy whose world of slaying makes her believe that love and fervour come from pain and fighting, taunts Spike with her neck in a gratuitously flirtatious way. Their arguing comes from passion – that of combatants. Their magical love, full of the nauseating tedium of place-settings and relatives and petty jealousies is hilarious. Although there is a sweet moment when the Buffster asks Giles to give her away and he is touched and pleased, until he remembers what’s going on. “It’s alright, I have more Scotch,” he moans.

    Riley’s gentlemanly courtship is the diametric opposite to Spike’s rough and ready “love” and it’s interesting in the scheme of how things pan out that Buffy tells him she can’t go out with him because she’s marrying Spike, considering Spike and Riley’s rivalry after Spike does fall for Buffy sans spell. Riley’s sex ‘n’ cars speech shows that he can too be saucy even if he is ohso boy next door (until he starts going with vamp prostitutes, that is. Not even Angel did that, although he did once eat a hooker, as I remember).

    Finally, Willow sees the error of her ways when her “pain […] like a scream that pierces dimensional walls” summons D’Hoffryn and she realises that her rage makes her akin to Anya (who is actually jolly useful in this episode, knowing how to kill demons, trying to summon D’Hoffryn herself and fighting off the creatures that attack Xander), that her anger and hurt is demonic and out of all proportion to what she has suffered, not to mention the fact that her messing with magic has hurt and bewildered her friends. Just as Buffy’s Neanderthal behaviour made the Slayer realise that Parker wasn’t worth it, the shock of knowing her sorrow is hurting her friends snaps Willow out of it. Good job since the confusion and chaos caused by the misplaced spell is enough to make Spike blurt out: “This is the crack team that foils my every plan? I’m deeply shamed”.

    Still, nice move by Willow in momentarily de-ratting Amy. Who would know that rodentism makes your hair grow?

    ‘Something Blue’ has been one of the funniest episodes of the show so far. The problem with the past two episodes was that they mostly ignored the absence of Oz, with this episode they finally go more into it and show that he’s really gone and show Willow’s grieve and pain.

    The Riley/Buffy relationship is also very fun and fresh, he has a big crush on her but doesn’t know how to talk to her sometimes. His funniest moment and the funniest moment of the episode is when he sees her looking at a wedding dress and she tells him she’s getting married to a guy named Spike.

    Meanwhile Willow finds Oz’ room empty because he send to pick up his stuff, now she’s completely off guard and tries to drink her sadness away. When that doesn’t work she decides to do a spell to get her will and wish away the pain but that doesn’t work either, or so she thinks.

    Anyway, Giles still has Spike and Buffy has to feed him and they are on each other’s face all the time. Giles wants Willow to do a truth spell to cast Spike out but instead she gets in a fight with Giles and tells him he doesn’t see anything which turns him blind.Then soon she goes to Xander and whines about her problems and that Spike and Buffy should get married and so they suddenly do (which is very disturbing) and she also says that Xandr is a demon magnet.

    When Xander and Anya get attacked by demons they go to Giles’ place and see Spike and Buffy together which makes them want to barf. Xander realised it was Willow and when they go to her place there is a burned mark, she has been taken away by D’Hoffrin who is the boss of vengeance demons. Willow takes everything back and that ends up with Spike kissing Buffy which is pretty gross the Spike lips.

    The episode was mostly very hilarious, Most characters got some kind of development. Also Riley and Buffy endings up together made it very sweet. Buffy thought that guys need to be dark but after this experience she’s over it and now she wants to give Riley a chance.

    Excellent episode.

    Spike is living with Giles and they are trying to get him to talk about the new big bad inetietive (spelling) Willow of course comes up with a truth sirum that shes not quite sure it would work on vamps. So she goes home and completely crashes and breaks down into tears about Oz leaving. She decides to try a my will be done spell. In the morning she tries it out on a pencil and decides that it doesn't work. Giles comes in and basiclly gets on to her about her magic and how she flaked on him then willow busts out and tells him he can't see. Giles then slowly starts to get blury vision. Willow decides to vent on Xander and says that Spike and Buffy should get married and he is a demon magnet. When Giles arives back home he finds that Buffy and Spike are engaged. Meanwhile Xander is getting attaked by lots of demons. Onya and Xander rush to Giles house to see Spike untied and hlding hands with Buffy. He then remembers what Willow had said. Then they fix it and everything goes back to normal. But who would have thought that Buffy wanted You Are the Wind Beneath my Wings as her first dance.

    I laughed my...stones(?) off! I love when they go out of character. First Willow is a drunk, then she\'s an angry witch. Giles goes blind, Buffy and Spike get engaged, Xander becomes a demon magnet. Everything is just so out of character. I also loved the sparks flying from Buffy and Riley. I think Anya and Spike are amazing improvements of Cordilia and Oz. Can\'t wait for Hush...I love that episode...and Doomed!

    With Oz gone, Willow has to come to terms without him. She does a little chanting, envokes the magic spirit, and poof. Well, there really wasn't a poof. It was more of an angry Willow gets what she wants. Giles turns blind, Spike and Buffy fall in love (Funny for a while, then ew.), Xander becomes a monster magnet, and Riley freaks out when he hears that Buffy is getting married (though his freaking out had nothing to do with his being under the magical mojo). A pretty comical episode and I am glad I finally got to see it.
