Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Season 7 Episode 16

Aired Tuesday 8:00 PM Feb 25, 2003 on The WB

  • Trivia

    • When Andrew is taping himself in the basement with the picture of the high school and the hellmouth, "Play" can be seen in the top left corner, but it should read "Rec."

    • In Andrew's flashback to him talking to Warren/The First, you can clearly see Warren/The First leaning on the bed. But, The First is incorporeal, so he shouldn't be able to do this.

    • When Buffy slaps the 'shy girl' who is turning invisible, the camera is focused on Buffy, at the left side of the screen you can see the girl in the shot, non-invisible, and Buffy's hand stopping about two inches from her face.

    • After the fight with the high schoolers and Buffy in the room containing the Seal of Danzalthar, the two kids that were previously there unconscious on the ground are gone. There is no real time when they could have left.

    • When Buffy and Wood are talking about what's happening in the school, they're standing at the front desk with at least one secretary within easy hearing distance. Great job keeping what they know low profile.

  • Quotes

    • Spike: I thought I told you to piss off with this bloody camera! And here you are again with that thing in my face! Would you sod off before I rip your throat out and eat...
Andrew: Uh Spike, the light was kinda behind you.
Spike: Oh right. Um...(moves) This better then? (pause) I thought I told you to piss off with that bloody camera! Yet here you are again with that thing in my face! Sod off...

    • Andrew: She is like a woman fighting for more than life. She fights like fighting is her life. It is the air she breaths, and she knows she will win because there is no alternative.

    • Principal Wood: Tell us about the seal.
Andrew: But it tickles and I'm all tense. Can't I have a cool, refreshing Zima?
      Buffy: No Zima!
Spike: Shut your face about the Zima, just talk.

    • Andrew: Oh, there's also these guys. (indicates a picture he's drawn of the Bringers) They work for the First. We don't know much about them except that they're very ugly and they're very mobile for blind people.

    • Anya: And here's where we jump on the merry-go-round of rotating knives. I blame you and you blame me and we both end up all cut to shreds.

    • Buffy: What were you trying to do, scratch his back from the front? You murdered him!

    • The Trio: We are as gods! We are as gods!

    • Buffy: When your blood pours out, it might save the world. What do you think about that? Does it buy it all back? Are you redeemed?
      Andrew: (crying) No.
      Buffy: Why not?
Andrew: Because I killed him. Because I listened to Warren, and I pretended I thought it was him, but I knew - I knew it wasn't. And I killed Jonathan. And now you're gonna kill me. And I'm scared, and I'm going to die. And this - this is what Jonathan felt.

    • Warren: What'll it do to Buffy?
      Andrew: Make her super magnetic!
Jonathan: Wow, she won't be able to get out of her car.
Warren: And knives and other sharp things will fly at her.
Andrew: We could walk right by her, and she wouldn't be able to stop us.
Warren: Unless we were wearing metal belt buckles, then we would stick to her.
Andrew: In my plan, we are beltless.
Jonathan: Wow, you're the best, Andrew.
Warren: Yep, and good-looking and smart too.

    • Willow: You know what they say. If at first you don't succeed...
Jonathan: Holy cats, here it comes again!
      Andrew: I deflect thy power.
Willow: Damn. That is one effective counterspell.
Andrew: Thank you, little one. Thank you.

    • Buffy: Careful. You're starting to talk like me.
Principal Wood: I can think of worse people to emulate.

    • Buffy: Guess what Andy, you just won yourself a free vacation to the beautiful downtown hellmouth.
Spike: So he can do what? Yell at it in its own language?

    • Anya: For God's sake Andrew, you've been in here for 30 minutes. What are you doing?
      Entertaining and educating.
Anya: Why can't you just masturbate like the rest of us?

    • Buffy: Everybody hates the cheerleaders.

    • Buffy: Running to catch the bus naked - that's a dream. Army of vicious vampire creatures - that's a vision... also, I was awake.
      Robin: A bus to where?

    • Andrew: A Slayer in action.
Buffy: A nerd in pain! Would they like that? 'cause we could do that.

    • Amanda: If we don't save the world, then nothing matters.
Kennedy: Hmmm... that's catchy, Amanda. Let's make that our slogan.

    • Andrew: Come with me now, if you will, gentle viewers. Join me on a new voyage of the mind...a little tale, I like to call, Buffy, Slayer of the Vampires.

    • Xander: (To Anya) It's a shame Buffy took Spike's chain down.

    • Robin Wood: (about a pig that has just run by) God, I hope that's not a student.

  • Notes

    • This episode takes place exactly one year after Xander and Anya's attempted wedding in "Hell's Bells". Not suprising, since they are both the 16th episode of the season.

    • The pig that runs by Buffy and Robin Wood near the Seal of Danzalthar is presumably the same one that Andrew attempted to kill in the episode Never Leave Me.

    • The flashback Andrew has when he is twisting what happened with Evil Willow is obviously cut from the episode 'Two To Go', with Andrew's scenes different to make him sound braver, but Willow's scenes are cut straight from 'Two To Go.'

    • Clara Bryant (Molly) does not appear in this episode.

    • The way Robin and Fake Memory Andrew are possessed is similar to the way Gunn and Harmony were possessed in the Angel episode "Destiny". When they become possessed they say their true feelings and take them to the extreme.

    • We find out why the First wanted Andrew dead in 'Never Leave Me' when it had Spike try to kill him.

    • Back to the beginning references: "Hey, shy girl" - Out of Mind, Out of Sight (when Marcie Ross became invisible because nobody noticed she was around); "Killer prom dogs" - The Prom (in which Andrew's brother, Tucker, released hell hounds on the senior prom; "Everybody hates the cheerleaders" - The Witch (where the cheerleaders are targeted by spells because of a jealous wannabe cheerleader); "Swim team monsters" - Go Fish (when several of the swim team members shed their skin and become monsters).

    • In "Amends," the symbol made up of bones, stones, candles and other stuff that the Bringers are using in the cave underneath the dead X-mas trees, looks suspiciously like the symbol on the Seal of Danzalthar under Sunnydale High.

    • During the dream scene with Andrew and Jonathan in Mexico, it shows the Cheese Man from the Season 4 finale 'Restless' for a split second.

    • In Andrew's flashback he tells Warren/The First about a demon selling weird weapons, one of which is a "collapsible sword." In the Angel episode 'Spin The Bottle', Wesley buys and uses a "collapsible sword".

    • The "Grrr...Arg.." at the end of the episode is replaced with "We are as gods!", what Andrew thought of when Warren told him they'd be gods.

  • Allusions

    • Andrew: Come with me now, if you will, gentle viewers. Join me on a new voyage of the mind...a little tale, I like to call, Buffy, Slayer of the Vampires.
In the teaser, Andrew is mimicking hosts of Masterpiece Theatre, a series on PBS featuring classic and contemporary literature on film.
