  • Allusions

    • :
This episode contains parodies of Agatha Christie's sleuth "Hercule Poirot", Arthur Conan Doyle's "Sherlock Holmes", Rex Stout's "Nero Wolfe", and John P. Marquand's "Mr. Moto", as well as many of the great plot devices of Golden Age murder mysteries, beginning with the classic "locked room" murder.

Like most Mr. Moto and Charlie Chan movies of the 30's and 40's, Mr. Toto is portrayed by a non-Asian actor. J. Carrol Naish made a career of playing roles of practically every ethnic background except his own - Irish.
