Awesome show! Amazing storyline of how a burnt spy tries to clear his name, and all the obstacles he conquers to achieve this. His spy methods are admirable and one could even learn from them. Season 5 finale was so intense! Can't wait for it to return!!
  • Would like to know when it's returning in the Uk??

I have followed this show since the beginning, but damn has the writing gone downhill from s4 to s5. I have completely stopped watching this show as it is getting increasingly ridiculous.

It was fun to begin with, the way michael, sam and fiona went out of their way to not kill anyone, but this is turning ***ed here in season 5. Just watch the episode with the milita, where they have to rescue a boy from a compound,it was the dumbest episode ever.

Take that and add the really ***ed cia story line, where everyone knows who he is working for,and he seems to always play the same dude when "undercover". I am done with this show
  • One day i was bored at my house and i decided to watch this show, and it blew my mind.

Michael Weston is without a doubt the coolest and most awesome person on the planet, not to mention he's a decent guy. he helps people, but he's always funny and he always does at least one amazingly awesome stunt per episode. not to mention his glasses are SO GREAT. his narrations make me wish that i was a spy so that i could know all of that. The plotlines are always gripping. he's trying to figure out who burned him, and he has to go through all of these steps to figure it out, and there's always a twist. i love this show because it's entertaining, funny, awesome, and because i have a huge crush on the main character. two words: WATCH IT.
  • Loved the vintage Dodge in the 'A Dark Road' episode. Not much else.

    "Mediocre"
I've seen bits and pieces of 'Burn Notice' from time to time until today, when I tracked down the 'A Dark Road' episode and watched my first complete episode. What else can I say about this one except..."Cool car." I get all warm and melty inside whenever I see a vintage Dodge Charger or Challenger in mint condition, but it pains me to see a car like that in the hands of a complete butt head. Like the car, everything else about 'Burn Notice' seemed to reek of mid to late seventies scriptwriting and had little to hold my attention. If you want to find out how I feel about 'Burn Notice', just read my previous review on the show 'Human Target'. Same criticisms apply, and will save me some wear and tear on my keyboard. Did ol' Jawsie Wawzie wake up on the wrong side of the bed today with a hot rivet up his works? Possibly, but no...I stand behind my views on hackneyed nonsense like this. Cool car though.
  • burn notice is a spy show that follows michael western whos out for blood.

    8.5

michael was an intelligence operative basically he was a spy.

one day he got a burn notice bascailly saying he was fired.

micahel was dumped in his hometwon of miami, florida.

micahel has no money no nothing.

so michael decides to use his skills to help innocent people.

michael gets help from his old friend,an ex girlfriend, and more people as the story goes on.

so as micahel is using his skills to save people and bringing down bad guys. his also out to find out who got him fired and why.

jeffrey donovan does a great job playing michael.jeffrey can carry a show being a main character.

jeffrey does all his stunts which is nice to see.

the show has great writing, and lots of action.

the show is really good but the only problem i have with this show is that there not alot of fighting scenes(martial arts) and its not as bloody as i would like(people dying from shoot outs).
  • The most realistic spy movie/series ever!

    9.0
    "Superb"

When I started to watch the series I didn'tlaymy hopes on this show. But then I started to realize Mike's thoughts and advice. And it was like "Yeah, that's true" or "hat one is gonna work".

The plot of burned spy is quite new. But the plot of the spy thrown intodaily routine is really great and innovative.

I really enjoyed all episodes/cases. The characters are really cool. "Trigger-happy girlfriend" is outstanding.Sam Axe is really funny. And Mike is best spy I ever see.

Maybe he doesn't kill armies of enemies like James Bond. But, hey, he is a human like all of us with his own issues only with special skills.

And this makes him the best and the most realistic spy ever!

  • I have never ever wanted to watch this show and one time I did watch it a while ago, probably one of the beginning seasons and it really turned me off of it. But one day I was completely out of things to watch and I knew a new season had come out, season 4

Ever since... I haven't missed an episode and I watch it every time it comes on. This is a really great spy movie and sure they do do some things really weird and not right with reality but a very bomb orientated show lol.

Even though now he isn't really a "Burned" spy anymore the show is still very watchable and now they have more high tech gadgets to play with, which always makes a spy show more interesting.

All in all a great show, glad I started watching it.

  • A spy with burn notice. Lightweight entertainment.

    6.5
    "Fair"
I like the idea, but the execution... not so much. A spy is fired, which in spy terms gets him a burn notice and dumped in a city without any of his old spy friends willing to touch him. And Miami is a great city to use for this kind of show. Sadly that's about as much really good I can say about the show.

This is actually probably the only show I watch were I don't like any of the main characters. The credibility ain't exactly huge and their big hearted small operations doesn't help.

Also. The overall balance in the show is off in my eyes. I would rather have seen them go more to the extreme, either way, than trying to balance the easygoing fun with the overall main plot to get him back into the spy world. As it is now, it doesn't really work out very well.

I still watch it, cause some of the how-spies-does-it parts are interesting and entertaining enough, but it's only as very lightweight entertainment. Each time I spend 42 minutes on it, I only have the same expectations as I used to have to overdone actionmovies in the 80's and 90's. Don't use your brain, only watch to kill some time.

As such it works better than most, but the sad part is it could have been a really good show.
  • So as it is mentioned in the tag line, "Spies don't get fired, they get burned" or something like that. A show about spies and apparently a very good one.

    "Superb"
I must say when I started watching this show, I never thought it would be good. However, it turned out to be a decent and informative one. First of all, a lot of interesting facts are shown about spies and how the do their job and also, it has just the right amount of action. All the relationships between characters are great in the show but I feel the one with Fiona gets a little cheesy at times. Another great thing is that apart from the individual great stories that each episode has, there is a bigger awesome story that runs through the whole season which, I should say, is intimidating enough to make me follow the show very carefully.
  • Informative

    9.5
    "Superb"
I find the show quite informative with a tinge of humuor something that I cannot have enough of. Anything that can get me to laugh effortlessly falls within the top ranks of my easy viewing and while burn notice may not have many laughing instances like a comedy, whenever it does, it gets me bursting to the fullest. Secondly, it is quite an informative show, there are a few things I have happened to see on the show and if I were not a cautious person, there are things that I would not mind trying out in the comfort of my sole presence. Bottom line, it is a nice watchable show.
  • Spies don't get fired, they get BURNED. Michael Westen is USA's top freelance spy who works for CIA and NSA but now he's burned. Only traitors and blacklisted agents get burned & Michael is a patriot.

    Jason Bourne meets MacGyver.

Really, there's no other way to describe it.

Spy shows like this comes out every few years and they are everywhere.

    BUT

Spy shows that get it right like Burn Notice, MacGyver, comes once a decade.

Yes... this is THAT good of a show.

There is not a SINGLE episode that's bad and to top it off they limit their seasons to 12 episodes which means no unnessecary pointless subpar filler episodes.

This show is tight, the writing, the acting, the story, the plot, the characters, EVERYTHING!

Infact this show actually POINTS outs flaws in other espionage action shows and err... shows how to do them right!

    End verdict... GO WATCH IT!

Whether you're a fan of the spy genre or not you'll love this show. There really isn't any show like this on TV right now and won't be for a long time.
  • How-to-be-a-spy tips in a great way, set in a bright and colored Miami

    8.5
    "Great"
Michael the main character of this show bring us in the 'regular' life of a spy, and how he manages his life after being suddenly burned from his spy career. Is very fun, with a lot of action scenes, nice girls, beach, full of How-to-be-a-spy tips in a great way, set in a bright and colored Miami, everything you need.

Another thing that makes it good is the appearance of Bruce Campbell as a FBI informant and Michael friend, helping him in some jobs until he finds the reason of his burn notice. Is really, really not boring. The only con is the gap between seasons, in my honest opinion is not very elaborated.
  • Most likely the best show on cable.

    9.5
    "Superb"
This out-of-control action that is full of spy tips is an awesome show with great acting. Sometimes it is just funny when it shows the name of the person and then what they do (e.x. there was a man that was a stalker then he walked into a bank and said EVERYBODY FREEZE and then it said bank robber). Unless you like to watch paint dry and you are really, really, really, really, really, really stupid, watch this show because it is amazing. Jeffrey Donovan is a great actor and he has probably the best job in the whole world.
  • Michael Western used to be a spy until he was burned and is now having to earn a living by using his training and skills to help people, (anything from kidnapped children, to fraud victims) while using those same skills to find out who burned him.

    "Perfect"
Better than James Bond. Great plot lines, every episode so far is exciting fun and witty. Every character becomes loveable the more you get to know them. (You just can't help but love Sam and Madeline as the series progresses)

    Certainly addictive.

The idea of a spy being burned and having to earn a living by using his training and skills to help people, (anything from kidnapped children, to fraud victims to individuals being targeted by street gangs)while using those same skills to find out who burned him is very entertaining. The script writers have yet to go wrong. (I have yet to watch an average episode that's just filling in time) I'm not sure they know how to go wrong! Highly recommended! Will be buying the Season 1 boxset as I know I will want to watch again!
  • If you like shows that are completely over the top with bad acting and poor visuals than this is definetly the show for you.

    "Abysmal"
What an absolutely horrible show. First off, i think the cast of this show was VERY poorly chosen. I think the woman in this show is not good looking at all and the guy does not seem to fit the role of a spy very well. Of the episodes i have seen, this show comes off as very unrealistic and hard to believe. The visuals are very poorly done and they are not very awe inspiring either. Burn Notice is supposed to be a kind of 007/McGyver inspired show, but it is not at all up to those levels. Overall, i think this show is a terrible waste of an hour.
  • Very good show with a rare combination of action and light-hearted fun.

    8.6
    "Great"
The writers came up with a great combination fun, slight comedy, action and spy thriller. The characters are all unbelievable in odd ways:

Fiona an thief with explosive expertise--- and was the girlfriend of a CIA operative??? ---Oh, and she has strong morals about helping the victimized???

Sam is a womanizing drunk ex-seal--- but still he manages to be a real expert spy when he pulls in to save the day.

Barry the money launderer? Why does he keep helping out Michael? Wouldn't he run if he were a believable character, or at least be a bit less cooperative?

...and the list of characters goes on...

Still!!! That is the point. The characters are unbelievable, but very likable. If this show tried to be serious the characters would truly suck, but with the light-hearted twist in the shows atmopshere, it seems to just work.

The show is very watchable, very entertaining--- perhaps part of the joy is just ignoring reality for a short while and watching these crazy characters.

...I like the narative style also--- Makes you feel like you are also learning to be a spy.
  • Great characters great plots and even better explosions!

    10
    "Perfect"
I love this show so much! While the plots are good, I defenatley watch for the characters. Michael is the brains, Fiona is the muscle, Sam is the funny man, Jesse is the voice of reason, and Maddy... well Maddy is the dramatic one. The special effects are incredable as well, all the explosions, gunfights and general mayham are totally big screen worthy! Oh and don't even get me started on Fi and Mike's chemistry... so hot! This show makes me want to become a spy for sure! USA, i have to say that you have a real winner on your hands here!

    9.0
    "Superb"
Great show, I've been watching this show non stop for the last week. Just finished season 2 and excited to see what season three offers.

I think the spy tips are what makes this show fun to watch. Although some of the tips are beyond anything that a practical persona can try at home, some of them are fun to know. It look be a little bit, but I found a website that records all the spy tips. Fun to look through and try some of them at home: Burn Notice Spy Tips and Advice

I'd like to see them focus more on the story of Michael and not some much of these good deeds that he does. There story is of Michael is just as good the tips. The little do gooder thing does get tiresome when you watch all the episodes back to back.

Still, outside of HBO, this is one of the best series on standard cable tv.

I'm wondering though, will Michael actually kill somebody on this show (without it being an accident). They've kept it pretty PG with that aspect.

    Off to watch season 3...
  • Good characters, bit of humour, lots of action and a plot And they blend long running themes nicley with weekly plots with each episode is an adventure and delight. There are no great world shaking themes, just great entertainment

Smart, sexy, self-deprecating, Burn Notice features the vivid colours and party atmosphere of Miami we've come to know from CSI:Miami and Nip/Tuck, but uncovers sides of the city we've not seen before. Westen is a flawed hero and a believable tough guy who lets himself be manipulated by his mother's guilt trips and who sprains his ankle jumping from rooftops. He's smart, handsome, and his smart-casual look so hip it hurts. His no-nonsense attitude gets the job done but it's his soft centre that makes him so likeable, this is what makes it the best tv show out here for me personaly and i look forward to watching the program every week. I only hope that it will never get cancled and that it there will be a lot more seasons to come and that it will last for many more years.
  • A agent gets burned and works as a P.I. and tries to figure out why he got burned.

    2.0
    "Terrible"
First of all, I only saw this for Bruce Campbell and just for his efforts this show gets a 2. Am I the only one who thinks this show was awful? Bad editing, bad camera work, bad script. The over voice doesn't really work and it often comes at the wrong time, the action scenes are overplayed by voice over and loud music. They tried to make it stylish but for me it failed (Watch City of God).

Great concept but the execution was horrible. But then again maybe it just wasn't my taste.
  • From the nonsensical beginning to the predictable end, this show has nothing new to offer.

    3.0
    "Bad"
Probably knowing how badly this show was going to be received, and desperate to maintain viewership and advertisers, at least through the pilot episode, we are first told that the one-hour show would air without commercial interruption - - never mind that within minutes, the main actor utters the name of an elite car company - - and even stoops to using language that would make a pastor blush (okay, so it was just the three-letter palindrome used in place of the word "breast", which pales in comparison to language used in other shows, and, believe me when I say that I am no prude, but it was completely unnecessary, except to attract the teenaged male audience for which this show is clearly aimed). By keeping us in our seats, so to speak, for the entire hour, the network must have realized that if viewers had the slightest chance to change channels, they probably wouldn't come back!

The hackneyed plots, terrible acting, stereotypical characters, and rehashed scripts, are all stolen straight out of oldies, but goodies, such as "Casablanca", though starting in Nigeria instead of Morocco, and, even the more recent "James Bond" flicks "Casino Royale" and "Die Another Day", which, if I were Ian Fleming's estate, I'd sue this show for multiple thefts of copyright, and then add a civil suit for doing so, badly!

As an indication of how bad this show is, the most recognizable stars in this show are Bruce Campbell - - who I happen to like as an actor, but whose career has landed him in bad commercials for men's after shave - - and Sharon Gless - - who went from "Cagney and Lacey" a quarter of a century ago to this, desperately needs a new agent!

The far-fetched plot of being "burned" (i.e., cut-off) from whatever intelligence agency he's supposed to be with, right in the middle of an arms deal (or was it drugs? I can't remember; not to worry, it wasn't important in the least!), to being mercilessly pummelled by the dealers, and then having the strength to overpower two of the muscle-bound thugs and find a way to the airport, to ending up penniless in the "hellhole" - - as he thinks of it - - of Miami, and dredging up every boring friend and enemy he can find, including a hobbit-like character who reminded me of a poor man's Peter Lorre, who all happen to be there, including his chain-smoking mom . . . are you falling asleep, yet? Wait! There's less! He somehow manages to become a detective, and manages to sneak into the bizarrely unguarded estate of a millionaire to retrieve sensitive information from a safe with a fingerprint recognizer to save the reputation of the millionaire's Hispanic bodyguard, who, though he looks fierce, is, of course, a teddy bear with a sickeningly precocious son, who, of course, the detective teaches to fight school bullies (having, himself, earlier besting a drug dealer and his hired thug) . . . The only thing missing is the Maltese Falcon and the Fat Man!

Do you get the feeling that I didn't like this show? The only reason I didn't give it a "1.0" rating was that there was nothing else to do or watch, and the show offered a little cheesecake with some beach hotties ("Miami Vice" this ain't!).

Had they made Bruce Campbell the star, rather than the bland Jeffrey Donovan, this show might have stood a chance, in that the comedic Bruce would have naturally given some character to the show, compared with Jeffrey's vapid performance.

I will be surprised if this show doesn't get its own, well-deserved, "burn notice" by the end of the Summer, if not sooner!
  • A great and intelligent show!

    10
    "Perfect"
Sure, "Burn Notice" is a hell of an exciting show, providing an enormous amount of action. On the other hand, what I love most about it, are the little stories about the relationships between the main characters and while I somehow lost track about who the pupeteers trying to play Michael at each point were, I really love how he and his friends are trying to help out people in need away from the big spy business. So one of my favourite quotes is this one: "Fighting for the little guys is for suckers. We all do it once in a while, but the trick is to get in and out quickly without getting involved. That's one trick I never really mastered." You can tell, that Michael has done things that could have easily cost him his soul and maybe they have buried part of it. Still, there is some deep humanity left in him, he doesn't have to play it all cool and he is learning to admit to his feelings again. Even though he often tries to keep up a facade, he gets very soft around his friends, he can't help to give in to his compassion for people who need his support and in all the stress he gets from all the dangerous situations he is exposed to, he always finds time, to look after his mother, how ever annoying her behaviour. There's one thing that is bothering me though (and the show seems to be with me there by letting Fiona ask the same questions I'd ask): I can't figure out why on earth Michael would like to get back to his old life.

The other characters in this show are drawn with the same wonderful depth. The "trigger happy" ex-girlfriend, Fiona, who first is presented as a regular mad woman, gets some really nice moments to actually show her feelings and what lies underneath her rather crazy surface. Besides, you wouldn't expect her "job description" from a woman really and that's one of the really great things about this show.

Sam (who actually might be my favourite character) has come a long way. After being introduced as some kind of treacherous weasel, still clingy to his "glorious" past, drinking way too much, spying on Michael first, he has developped into a movingly loyal and great friend, always ready to put his life on stake for his team, but still prepared to speak up, when he thinks that Michael is losing it. The character who might have undergone the most amazing developments though, is Madeline. When we first met her, she was this incredibly hypochondriac pain in the neck. She still does her fair share of whining, but she has proven more than once, how strong she really is and it seems that by having Michael back and having made friends with Sam and Fiona, she has actually grown and flourished in a most wonderful way, finding strength again, that had been burried by her past, by so many years of bad marriage and heartache. Some of the scenes between Madeline and Michael -- especially the ones dealing with Michael's dysfunctional childhood -- are among the most moving on the show.

The cast of "Burn Notice" is amazing. Jeffrey Donovan, Gabrielle Anwar, Bruce Campbell and Sharon Gless are doing an incredible job creating their characters in a very likeable way that really makes you care a great deal for them and they have one of the greatest chemistry together I've ever seen on any show.

If you asked me, what genre this show is, I couldn't tell you really. It's a thriller, sure, but there also is a fair share of drama and of comedy mixed in. "Burn Notice" doesn't really take itself all seriously. I always like when new characters introduced are labeled and how, while the explanation about who they are is going on, the labeling might even change. That is a very tongue in cheek way of doing it and I love that. Another thing I love is the voice over. Done in a bad way, that might actually go terribly wrong and get pretty embarrassing. In "Burn Notice" it is done very convincingly, helping to bring the show forward. It makes the audience some kind of "complice" in what's going on. It gives you the feeling of being ahead of the bad guys and that's great. So, here's to many more seasons of "Burn Notice" to come, may it live on for many, many years!
  • With ingredients like burnt spies, beautiful ladies, gorgeous scenery, car chases, gun fights, explosions and a healthy amount of Bruce Campbell. On top of which I find this series to be delightfully intelligent for a change. Burn Notice has everything.

I found this show whilst browsing top TV listings on TV.com just as the first season started airing. At first I didn't like The character Micheal Weston at all. But before I knew it I was rooting for his success, I've been hooked since and have seen every episode aired to date. There are definitely elements of cheesiness contained within. The whole stuck in Miami thing would be a dream come true for some people. I advise to accept these minor flaws, the show is slick, sexy and exciting and has had me wowed many times as the story progressed. I want to see this series make it all the way to completion. I love the way everything has developed since day one. This show is one of the best shows I have ever seen!
  • Michael, Sam, Fiona, Madelyn and "Chuck Finley" - what a cast!

    8.0
    "Great"
My husband and I started watching Burn Notice because my brother-in-law and his wife watch it religiously. It's a lot of fun and is certainly action packed! I was reluctant to watch at first because I'd seen Jeffrey Donovan in some guest roles and didn't like the characters he played. He's great in this though; very believable as a burned spy trying to get back in. Gabrielle Anwar grates on my nerves. She's too skinny to be believed as such a tough woman with an affinity for explosives and high caliber weapons. She doesn't look like she could lift a spoon to her mouth she's so thin! The best part of BN is Bruce Campbell! (Just for fun watch Bubba-Ho-Tep, you'll see why Bruce is so beloved to so many!) His alter ego, Chuck Finley, is fun to watch as well. I don't believe that BN would be as entertaining without Bruce Campbell. Sharon Gless does a great job as Michael's mom. She chain smokes, drinks and plays cards with her cronies. When called to help with a case, she jumps in with both feet – few questions asked. She's learning about Michael's former life as a spy and is coping with it the best way she can. I recommend watching Burn Notice – but start with the first season. Sometimes characters from the first season will return later on and it's nice to know who they are!
  • One of the greatest shows. They always manage to make the most incredible season within only 12 episodes. Spying, intelligente, guns, girls, girls with guns, fighting and comedy. This show has everything! And it's in Miami!

Burn Notice is a very special show. Michael is an incredibly intelligent ex-spy who has awesome friends and family around him to help with his search for who burned him and why and helping people who need his and his team's expertise as he goes. The plot takes place in Miami, which fits perfectly in the story giving a scenario for hot girls, beautiful houses, beaches and the best places for the action. It's not just A spy show, it's THE spy show. Great actors, great directing, great visuals, show you one side of the spy world that you haven't seen before. Even gives you quick tips on spying as the episodes go. Just pick up what Michael says and you will quickly begin to apply that to your real life. Perfect.

On it's surface, Burn Notice is bland, flashy and too serious. But that's only if you watch about three seconds and then read half of a review on the internet. If you're an avid watcher (like me), you'd know how entertaining this program really is.

Personally this is one of my favorite shows. It's witty, fun and captivating. The main trio of actors is a talented, co-horty bunch with great chemistry and lots of laughs. There's the booze-guzzling, woman-mongering Sam Axe (the cult favorite Bruce Campbell), who's loyal as a puppy and cute as a button. He's great in a pinch, and a very loyal friend to Michael in all his endeavors. He's sharp for an old fella, which is why we love him.

Then there's the gun-toting, hot-headed Fiona as Michael's on-again-off-again ex, who adds a whole new dimension to the term femme fatale. She's sassy, resourceful, and a female character who's actually good for something other than getting kidnapped and throwing themselves at the foot of the male lead. Her complicated relationship with Michael (emotionally stunted on BOTH sides) is a huge part of the show.

Finally, we come to our guide through the crazy life of an intelligence operative, Michael Westen. How awesome is he? Well, here's how. You know how most action heroes kill the bad guys? Michael doesn't. Michael gets the bad guys to kill each other. Just by using his slick skills from the spy game, he can manipulate the opposing forces do do anything he wants, with a little mind trick and an explosion or five. With his witty narratives teaching you viewers watching at home how he does his deeds, he leads us to believe that we too can be spies with only our minds and a little block of C-4.

Burn Notice IS flashy. It IS showy, and it IS a show that can rub you the wrong way if you don't give it time to see past the surface. But if you do, you won't regret it. I promise. I myself was a skeptic before I tuned in about halfway through the second season, but after about ten minutes of characters spying, things blowing up and Jeffrey Donovan shouting at people through a cell phone, I believe I will be a fan for life, brother.

As a final note, Chuck Finley is forever!
  • Burn Notice is a show which combines the common interest of the life of a spy, intensive action scenes, and light hearted comedy throughout every episode.
