TRIVIA: Dr Edward Marcase survived Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever as a boy which killed both his parents and almost killed him.
(The possessed Dr Glynden stares at Edward)
Glynden: Mumps, chicken pox, 5 varieties of flu, dengue fever… and Ebola… contracted when you were a child, it almost killed you.
Edward: How do you know my medical history?!
Glynden: We can see it in your blood.
Glynden: Once we covered the Earth – we lived in almost every member of your species… but then the Horror came… every creature was dying, it was as if the whole world was coming to an end. With the strongest body we possessed, we sealed ourselves in a chamber and we slept. We didn't know if any Humans had survived… until the door was opened… we were very glad to see you.
Edward: I believe what we're dealing with is a form of possession.
Kimberly: Now there's a diagnosis right out of the 13th century!
(Kimberly stalks out after a passionate argument with Edward.)
Edward: Good choice of a team.
Rhinehart: She's brilliant… besides, she'll balance out your insanity.
(Rhinehart explains the security of the lab – should there be a breach, push the button)
Edward: And instantly get blown to Hell?
Rhinehart: No, not instantly, we prefer to think of it as 'abrupt project termination'.
Edward: I just remembered our mutual friend – it was Alan Covell – he was your fiancé, wasn't he? He was one of the finest virologists I've ever known.
Kimberly: Until he worked with you.
Edward: And you believe I'm responsible for his death.
Kimberly: What you did was a needless risk.
Edward: What we did was the only way to defeat the Ebola – the people of that village, they wouldn't allow us to examine their victims unless we agreed to prepare the bodies for burial in the traditional manner.
Kimberly: Which meant cleaning out the victims' body cavities by hand! That was the way the disease was being spread in the first place! You were immune because you had Ebola as a child! Alan wasn't!
Glynden: You're a clever and resilient man, Doctor, we can see why the Ebola couldn't kill you.
Edward: It killed my parents – they were clever and resilient too.
(After hearing Michael's credentials)
Edward: I was just saying this morning – I could really use an assistant who can kill people.
(Rhinehart introduces Edward to his new team, Kimberly and Michael)
Edward: Don't tell me this is the team. Two people?
Rhinehart: Think of it as the tip of a spear – the shaft extends around the world.
Edward: I know where the shaft extends.
Rhinehart: Glad to see you haven't lost any of your basic paranoia.
This is the only episode of the series that Daniel Cassian (Michael Harris) doesn't appear in. His character is introduced in the second episode, 'Silent Tower'.
Many of the races in the world have a myth about a flood which covered the face of the Earth several thousand years ago. The most commonly known version is that in the Christian Bible, about Noah and his Ark.
Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever
Dr. Marcase's car's licence plate says EBOLA.
Ebola hemorrhagic fever (Ebola HF) is a severe, often-fatal disease in humans and nonhuman primates (monkeys, gorillas, and chimpanzees) that has appeared sporadically since its initial recognition in 1976.
The disease is caused by infection with Ebola virus, named after a river in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire) in Africa, where it was first recognized.
