Wendy Craig is Ria Parkinson, a middle aged housewife in the suburbs of London with a somewhat successful dentist husband who has provided her with a comfortable life. She has two grown sons who cannot hold a job and still live at home.

Ria is assessing her humdrum life when the dashing Leonard arrives at her lunch table. Leonard is taken by her utter confusion and ruthlessly pursues her.

This series is about Ria's relationships with each of the men in her life.

The ongoing running gag of Ria's terrible cooking is hilarious. In one episode, Ria threatens the guys with a custard that is so hard that the spoon will not come out.

Wendy Craig's perfect delivery is short of amazing. Since I can cook, I would have liked her to be my mother!

Also, this is the series that launched Geoffrey Palmer's career but it would be a decade later before he became a household name in As Time Goes By.moreless
