Chris and Mary Beth are delighted when they catch a major case, and get to work for an attractive captain, but Chris takes issue with the captain's advances towards her.
  • Another fine performance from Sharon Gless...

This was a well written and, of course, well acted episode dealing with sexual harrassment in the workplace and the fact that women (and sometimes men) are at times "held hostage" by having their reviews (and ultimately their career) by refusing to have sex or an affair with their boss. Sharon Gless gave a wonderful performance in her depiction of what this harrassment does to the person who is subjected to it by their superior. I am in total disagreement with Barney Rosenzweig's decision to change the final scene and not to end the episode with the traumatic "interview" Cagney had with the Inspector, Capt. Hennessey and Lt. Samuels where she is given no support, not even from Lt. Samuels - from Barney's book, it would appear that Sharon felt this same disagreement. Without saying a word, but just through body language and the looks on her face, she conveyed the hurt, abandonment, confusion, anger, etc. which were key to the entire show and what had transpired. To take that away and instead end the episode with yet another sappy encounter between Mary Beth and Harvey (based on just a minor storyline of the entire episode) to me seemed ludicrous and left me rather irritated at having to view that sap rather than what the episode was all about. I also felt that it was a real disservice to Sharon Gless. Granted I'm not "in the business", just an extremely loyal C&L fan; so JMHO!!!

All of this said, it's Cagney & Lacey; so it was still an excellent show (albeit with a very poor ending!!).moreless
