In a way this is the third start of Cagney & Lacey, as Sharon Gless is now officially Chris Cagney. Immediately they get it right. I was surprised that the show is not outdated at all. An incident involving a neighborhood watch team creates friction between the two partners because they saw different things. Is loyalty more important than the truth? Should you lie for your partner? The different backgrounds of Cagney and Lacey become clear when Chris accuses her partner of not being a real police officer. At the end of the episode the friction between the two is not completely resolved.
The actual mystery story is handled well, but you realize that the two main characters are going to be the focal point of the series. Interesting themes attached to thrilling stories.
